USC Saturday Buzz: A Five-Star Injury

Sophomore defensive tackle Jahkeem Stewart is apparently on crutches with a foot injury and expected to be out 3-4 weeks.

Remember, Stewart underwent surgery last November for a stress fracture in his foot that bothered him throughout last season.

The question now is whether this is going to be a recurring injury and something to be concerned about even after he returns. He was fighting for a starting job during training camp. That doesn’t matter. What matters is that he gets healthy and the situation with his foot gets resolved.

  1. Not good. Plus he was a leader on the team in terms of toughness, work ethic, giving 100%.

He had surgery last year so it would seem unlikely it is a reoccurrence of the same issue. But at 295 lbs, that is a lot of load on those small foot bones…

      1. KAM: If the 49ers have 20 injured players who knows how many other SC players are injured…

DON: ….But Riley Coyote has made everyone take an oath of omerta.

  2. KAM:; That says something about SC’s newly founded depth, that a guy like Stewart was fighting for his starting job

DON: It shows what being competitive in the NIL market can do for a team

  3. Speaking of the great John McKay —we should pre-arrange a day where we all get blasted and post whatever crazy, stream of consciousness crap comes to mind [maybe for our opener]….

  4. DON: With SC it is always about the porous defense.

KAM: I know how the offense can help the defense. Have at least a 10-point lead at all times during the 4th quarter

  5. DON: Apparently the Dodgers owner is using the money from his Lakers sale to help with his sinking insurance business

KAM: The Dodgers need a billionaire owner just to pay the salaries. Ohtani has a 7/10 of a billion contract and the new guy has a 1/4 billion agreement

      1. KAM: The bililonaire owners were trying to use the Dodgers as the reason for locking out the players until they surrender to having a salary cap.

DON: But if the Dodgers were built on fraud then the owners argument disappears in a puff of smoke!

  7. Injuries happen in all team sports….that is where the ‘GM’ or per college football in 2020’s ‘NIL’ liaison skill is revealed.

The key is ‘depth’ …. how many nearly equally skilled are on the squad to step up? For true legacy programs the ‘name’ recruits itself i.e. USC, OH St., AL, MI, OK, LSU, ‘Notre Dame’, Miami … give any recruit on those rosters, an above average looksie by the NFL

Last 12 years, per the sanctions, there’s been little depth after the starting 11 on both sides…add to that truly awful head coaches and assistants and the inevitable pedestrian outcome in December.

In August 2026 Riley has: excellent assistants, recruits, team ‘GM, and skilled key athletic officials ….
The key is to minimize loss as the season progresses.

This is why Cohen, Riley, Chad Bowen made ‘the princess’ understand in the era of FBS….12 team playoff…end of year opponents – USC is no longer interested in serving the needs of ‘the princess’ ever exploding pathetic schedules esp at the tail end of their season’s. |

Again injuries are inevitable but if the depth has been solid and the competition for being a starter has been solid it’ll work out.
