USC Notes: Lincoln Riley Figuring Out How To Be Successful

USC apparently suffered multiple injuries in training camp that are just coming to light.

The depth chart was already missing several key players: WR Terrell Anderson, DE Braylan Shelby and OT Elijah Vaikona.

Today, Lincoln Riley said backup safeties Marquis Gallegos and Kendarius Reddick are out for the San Jose State game. It’s the reason true freshman Madden Riordan is backing up both safety spots on Saturday.

And wide receiver Tanook Hines will be a game-time decision on whether he plays.

Now this doesn’t really matter if it a one-game injury or even three-games given the schedule. The question is who else is hurt? We don’t know because Riley doesn’t say.

  • Riley on how he improved as a coach:

“Probably my overall understanding of how USC works and then with that the longer I’ve been here you get a stronger feel for what it takes to be successful here.”

He is in his fifth season at USC and just now getting a feel for what it takes to be successful?

He is at USC!!!

What needs to be figured out? What if he were at Oregon State? Would he need 20 years to figure things out? The guy makes excuses like no one else.

I bet he didn’t mention this during his job interview with Mike Bohn.

  1. KAM: UCLA is proceeding as though it landed a massive gift this week, with 2025 Sun Belt Player of the Year Trent Hendrick joining the Bruins for practices Monday and Tuesday.

Hendrick is among 16 players who sought a Louisiana temporary restraining order allowing them to return to college after entering the NFL draft pool, arguing they would not have left had they know NCAA rules would change granting them an extra year of eligibility.

The temporary restraining order was granted last week, but the Big Ten voted on Tuesday to pass a new rule that prohibited football players who have signed a professional contract, were on a professional roster at any point or declared for the NFL draft as an underclassman without withdrawing, from maintaining eligibility for athletic competition.

DON: Hendrick, however, did not sign a contract, never earned a spot on a roster and didn’t declare for the draft as an underclassman.

  2. Wolf needs a one-on-one with Riley. Perhaps some of the repeated questions he asks will get answered.

That will never happen…Wolf has burned too many bridges

      1. Funny how you accuse someone else of having a “drug-addled brain,” then follow it up with a threat involving a chocolate swirlie. That’s not exactly the intellectual high ground, fake gabby. But please, keep embarrassing yourself — you’re doing a far better job than anyone else ever could.
