USC Notes: Fresno State Names QB

USC is finally selling single-game tickets to the Oregon game starting today. Prior to today, you had to buy a package with tickets for the Oregon game plus two other games.

  • Fresno State has named Jayden Mandal the starting quarterback. He has never started a game and appeared in six games in 2024. He did not play last season because he was injured.
  • I can’t imagine USC officials are thrilled that Paul Finebaum criticized them today.

    1. Yeah, because apparently tens of thousands of people buy football tickets, sit through four quarters in the heat, just to get a 12-minute marching-band concert at halftime. Brilliant analysis. I’m surprised ESPN hasn’t hired you yet.”

      1. KAM: “12 minute marching band concert at halftime”? That’s weird, the band plays before the game, during the game, at halftime and after the game. Sounds like Cowardly Gabby has never attended a USC football game

DON:. Cowardly Gabby is caught in another lie!

    1. KAM: They are honoring OJ with a special TV 4 episode TV show debuting Monday September 7th on the Investigation Discovery Channel.

DON: It delves into his attempts to rebrand himself, including his controversial reality TV special, “Juiced”. A must watch!

I thought Gabby said a few days back that she was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, she spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show.

        That’s our Cowardly Gabby.

        All talk, no walk.

DON: Cowardly Gabby caught lying once again, or as she puts it, “generalizing”!

  2. The “Juice Box” has nothing to do with O.J. It is a reminder to bring your energy and enthusiasm (juice) to the field

  3. Well looks like the Fresno St. offense is in for a very long day with the cited skill set of their starting QB one Jayden Mandel.

This is where depth pays such huge dividends something lower tiered programs can’t copy.

6:00 pm kickoff this Friday 4th September 2026 and all those ‘vals go home’ fans filling the Coliseum up.

    1. 100%, Alv! Fresno State’s Quarterback Unit is not listed in the Top 70 according to Phil Steele [who does a good job at the unit rankings year in and year out]. Mandal is rated the 81st best QB in college football…

  4. Fresno is supposed to have one of the worst quarterback units in the country [according to Phil Steele]. In fact, the only unit that’s supposed to be good is Special Teams [Fresno State #18, USC #20].

  6. DON: There were signs of some young Trojans appearing to have a future with SC

KAM: An alarming feature of the San Jose game was how they almost scored 2 touchdowns in the 1st half with our 1st stringers in there

  7. KAM: So Fresno St named a quarterback, inexperienced and rated as about the 80th best American quarterback

DON: But when he sees the tape of the San Jose quarterback ripping through the Trojans, well, he is going to see some possibilities

  8. WHEN I WAS A KID THERE WAS A GUY ON OUR BLOCK NAMED EDDIE HOWER. HE HAD A TAIL GROWING OUT OF HIS SPINE AND HE HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL EVERY YEAR OR SO TO HAVE IT CUT OR FILED DOWN. THATS A TRUE STORY MY FELLOW TROJANS. !!

  9. KAM: You ever notice how when things start getting tough for SC football, fans start talking about ‘The Beyond’

DON: I don’t know, if this is all there is, that was plenty for me

  10. KAM: Now some are saying that San Jose would have won the game if it had had more time, the way they were closing on SC

DON: The San Jose lesson– take no team, no lead, for granted

    Liked by 1 person

  11. KAM: Because SC jumped out to such a lead, it made it possible to play 2nd and 3rd stringers

DON: A weeding out process with Wiley saying some did not meet “expectations.”
