Sunday Buzz: Some USC Fallout And Crazy Day In Michigan

How about the end of that Western Michigan-Michigan game?

Whatever happened, I don’t think the Big Ten did a great job providing an explanation with regard to the clock and how it was synced to the NBC clock. NBC rules analyst Terry McAulay sure thought something was amiss and has not commented on his social media account since the game.

  • A word about USC’s attendance: For the first time since 2001, the announced attendance has been below 54,000 for two straught home games. And next up is Louisiana with an 8 p.m. start. Not appealing.
  • Two different USC fans have reached out to say a video was shown at the Coliseum on Friday night that featured NFL players who were No. 1 draft picks. The video omitted O.J. Simpson.
  • Did anyone else think Cal coach Tosh Lupoi might be over his head watching his debut against UCLA? And I realize one game is not a career. But they definitely lost a winnable game.

  3. This is the best video I have seen of the Mich-W Mich play at the end of the game. It appears that the scoreboard clock was about a second off of the official clock:

    As if Riley’s statement that 67K is more than 71K wasn’t enough proof.

        Just because I’m smart enough to know he was found Not Guilty and can separate what he did on the field, from what he did in his personal life does not make him my hero.

      3. Buddha – You and I are apparently almost always of a like mind in our assessments/takes. Will not disrespect another person posting here, and in particular you, given the aforesaid. But I am with So Cal on this one (separating on-field performance and what later happened … are there ethical matters that make that problematic? you bet … just an on-balance “can’t disappear the past regardless” judgment). Of course, USC isn’t the only ones to take such an approach, so won’t be as critical as I normally am of the awful leadership of the football program from administration down to the field … but still seems a bad call (given many others have chosen to take the ‘separate on and off field’ approach).

        DON: OJ was found guilty of kidnapping and armed robbery in 2008. He was sentenced to a minimum of nine years in prison, with a maximum of 33 years. He served 9 years.

      5. We love to claim that Trojans are a family. Anyone who has a family member that commits a crime or uses drugs loves the sinner but hates the sin.

        Anyone supporting that video omission is a poser. They don’t get it. You are a Bruin for 4 years, but a Trojan for life.

      6. Always funny when people point to Las Vegas. He did more time than the guy with the gun. Judge Glass tried to claim it wasn’t payback for what she thought he got away with. Anyone with a triple digit IQ knows that isn’t true.

        Some of the items in that room DID belong to him. I’ll never argue that the way he went about getting them was idiotic.

      7. KAM: Some would say that to receive forgiveness from their family one should express remorse for their crimes that brought disgrace to the family name.

        DON: OJ never expressed any remorse to USC alumni, students and staff for his kidnapping and armed robbery. Hence he is not deserving of our forgiveness for besmirching the good name of USC.

      8. Just because 12 people didn’t have the guts or brains, and we know why a certain race would have never found him guilty, didn’t convict him doesn’t mean he didn’t do it, two completely different things.

        And James, if you think WOKE USC is going to have OJ in a video, you’re delusional. Ever see the NFL “ad” with RB’s of all generations running ? OJ isn’t in it, the NFL is as WOKE as SC.

        OJ’s retired jersey is still displayed, that and his Heisman are about as much exposure he’s going to get from USC anymore

  7. Watched various games yesterday, Michigan game was a crime, targeting call against Cal player was bad.

    Saw unlv v Hawaii game when a unlv player totally ducked his head and smashed a Hawaii player in the head, no call until the Hawaii coaches raised he!!. Same game, Hawaii player catches the ball in the end zone, both feet hit the ground, his knees then hit the ground, he falls on the ground WITH THE BALL, and while on his back, a unlv player knocks the ball out, ruling no TD.

    In the Michigan game, a Michigan player totally grabbed the facemask of the CM player RIGHT IN FRONT of the side judge who was looking right at it, no call. Saw numerous holding calls that weren’t called against Michigan.

    People who bet on these games are morons

    1. Yes, he’s gone now, so it’s easy to paint him as evil. They’ve done the same to Hugh Hefner, Bob Barker and many others.

      They’ll go after OJ even harder because he’s black and Nicole was white. Of course, they’ll actually keep a straight face while trying to claim none of it has to do with race.

      4. Oh please. He got off because of the black jurors and a white one who was terrified for her life if she didn’t let him off, plus it was just after the King verdict. Had the case been tried where it should have been, he would have been in jail for murder, period.

  9. If USC wants to re-write history, do us all a favor and 1. Re-write Haden’s tenure as Arhletic Director and 2. Re-write Riley’s hiring. LSU with Kiffin and O is what USC uses to look like and could have again.

  10. amazing to find people who actually think OJ was framed! they need to watch this documentary to be reminded of the mountain of evidence incl DNA they had on this monster.

    1. If OJ had been an LAUSD teacher making $20K a year, Nicole’s family never would’ve allowed it. But because of who he was and what he had, they were OK with it.

      What should have been learned is, don’t raise your daughters to be hos. But it wasn’t. There are still millions of young women who will allow their men to abuse them either physically or emotionally, as long as they are afforded a lavish lifestyle.

      You won’t want a slouch, who is too lazy to work hard to provide for his family. But money shouldn’t be the primary factor in finding a mate.

  11. wolfman, you know i am loathe to ever contradict you on this blog, however i encourage you to reassess your comment that the game was winnable on Cal’s part. i will agree Chesney was outfoxed in the first half, but Cal did not lose the game due to bad coaching, the Bruin O-line and D-lines just took over in the 2nd half and overwhelmed Cal. speaks to good conditioning and no panic by Chesney.
