USC Morning Buzz: A Familiar Problem In First Two Games

Some USC professional fanboys were taking joy in Notre Dame’s slow start against Wisconsin on Monday night.

But they didn’t realize it just proved Lincoln Riley looked even more foolish for dropping the game off the current schedule. This USC team should be clamoring to play the Irish this season. But, no, it’s too hard.

  • USC continued a time-honored tradition by having only 10 men on the field for the extra point with a 13-0 lead. Apparently, the much-ballyhoed return of special teams coach Mike Ekeler has not solved this problem.

Remember, the Trojans got penalized for having 12 men on the field for a punt against San Jose State.

The great thing when you play cupcakes is it doesn’t matter if you make mistakes. Repeatedly.

  • A lot of other schools’ fans mocked USC fans for the small crowd against San Jose State. They said their fans could withstand the heat. Let’s check in on Texas State-Texas.

    1. Humidity isn’t ubiquitous in Texas. Try El Paso, where the T-shirt on offer at Fort Bliss features two skeletons holding drinks in lounge chairs beneath a blinding sun with this printed beneath: “But it’s a dry heat.”

      1. Cross country move from Fort Stewart to Fort Huachuca driving through El Paso felt like being the New Horizons spacecraft passing by Pluto on the way into the Kuiper Belt debris field … that t-shirt is perfect …

  1. KAM: More bad news for SC; Washington’s quarterback looked real good in the 4th quarter, passing and running

DON: SC often doesn’t do well against running quarterbacks.

    1. He looked good on several throws throughout the game … but so strange to see the North Dawgs playing so undisciplined … definitely not a Don James UDub squad …

  2. Badly coached teams make the same mistakes over and over, and when they do it against a top team, it costs them.

Special teams have been an issue since Helton was there, maybe before, and it’s inexcusable to not have the proper amount of players on the field for a FG, extra point, punt, it’s just sloppy coaching.

    1. KAM : This will cheer you up Ed: tonight at 9PM , on Investigative Discovery and HBO Max , watch O.J. UNSEEN: EXPLOITATION OF EVIL, the first documentary to chronicle and thoroughly investigate the making of Juiced, exposing the toxic collision of celebrity, media, and spectacle during an era when exploitation was increasingly packaged as entertainment.

Drawing on unearthed footage and behind-the-scenes access, the docuseries traces the show’s evolution from audacious concept to troubled production, capturing the increasingly volatile atmosphere that unfolded both behind and in front of the cameras.

At the center of the story are revealing interviews with Trojan For Life icon OJ Simpson himself, providing context for how the project was shaped at the time and his endless pursuit of notoriety through entertainment – a fixation that remained with him until his death.
