USC Morning Buzz: A Familiar Problem In First Two Games

Some USC professional fanboys were taking joy in Notre Dame’s slow start against Wisconsin on Monday night.

But they didn’t realize it just proved Lincoln Riley looked even more foolish for dropping the game off the current schedule. This USC team should be clamoring to play the Irish this season. But, no, it’s too hard.

  • USC continued a time-honored tradition by having only 10 men on the field for the extra point with a 13-0 lead. Apparently, the much-ballyhoed return of special teams coach Mike Ekeler has not solved this problem.

Remember, the Trojans got penalized for having 12 men on the field for a punt against San Jose State.

The great thing when you play cupcakes is it doesn’t matter if you make mistakes. Repeatedly.

  • A lot of other schools’ fans mocked USC fans for the small crowd against San Jose State. They said their fans could withstand the heat. Let’s check in on Texas State-Texas.

    2. Humidity isn’t ubiquitous in Texas. Try El Paso, where the T-shirt on offer at Fort Bliss features two skeletons holding drinks in lounge chairs beneath a blinding sun with this printed beneath: “But it’s a dry heat.”

      2. Cross country move from Fort Stewart to Fort Huachuca driving through El Paso felt like being the New Horizons spacecraft passing by Pluto on the way into the Kuiper Belt debris field … that t-shirt is perfect …

  5. Badly coached teams make the same mistakes over and over, and when they do it against a top team, it costs them.

    Special teams have been an issue since Helton was there, maybe before, and it’s inexcusable to not have the proper amount of players on the field for a FG, extra point, punt, it’s just sloppy coaching.

      2. KAM: And his endless pursuit of fame and adoration. That’s what this new special is about. I remember going the the 1975 USC-UCLA Track Meet at Drake Stadium and there was a crowd of about 50 people surrounding OJ on the East side of the track. He held court, talking about the UCLA meets he ran in and his world record 440 relay team. We loved him then.

      4. 60 years ago, at the end of Freshman Orientation Week at USC, OJ made a recruitment visit. A fellow freshman, an athlete—who remains a good friend, was recruited by the athletic department to share his room in Marks with OJ and escort him to the athletic department and accompany him to various recruiting events. When the weekend was over and OJ was gone, my friend discovered that OJ had helped himself to all of his clean underwear. Over the years when we (two other life long friends were forged that week and through the USC years following) have met for games, kids’ weddings, etc, the theft has always been brought up. After the murders of Ron and Nicole we concluded that underwear thievery is a gateway crime to murder. When OJ went to meet his maker I offered to file a claim in his estate for seven pairs of clean Fruit of the Loom whitey tighties, plus interest. He was a despicable piece of work. Too bad that was only known to four of us during his USC glory days.

  8. DON: I hope this is not a make or break the Playoffs’ season for Wiley because his team is a 5 1/2 point underdog to Oregon and 7 1/2 points with Ohio St.

    KAM: Not to mention probable underdogs at Penn St and Indiana, with the Washington and ucla games being toss-ups

    1. KAM: This will break your heart: Man’s $160,000 Porsche Taycan is now ‘worthless’ as dealership refuses to take it back

      DON: The Porsche dealership he originally bought it from valued it at around $54,000 but then told him they were no longer accepting used Taycans as trade-ins.

      They did not want the EV car at any price.

      2. Even with batteries covered for 8 years/70K miles, Teslas still only hold about 50% of their value after 4 years.
