Louisiana rushed for 146 yards, which is more yards against USC than San Jose State and Fresno State combined for in the first two games. Louisiana also finished with 358 total yards and averaged 6.9 yards per play.
That’s a warning for Gary Patterson although some will merely attribute it to the reserves playing. Do those same people point out USC rushed for 84 of its 225 yards in the fourth quarter against Lousiana?
The defense needs to tighten some things before it hits the real part of the schedule.
Also, here’s something to keep in mind: What happens when USC plays a two-dimensional team? One that can pass and run the ball equally well? I suspect Patterson isn’t thrilled at that prospect.
- Florida State fired athletic director Michael Alford today. He was an administrator at USC during the Mike Garrett era.
- This is the line for beer swords at the Coliseum. The wait was 45-60 minutes for some fans. They are obviously a hit because they sold out at multiple locations Saturday night. Did USC order enough? Why did a USC fan tell me they doubled the price of beer swords to $60 while customers waited in line?
USC did not originate the idea of beer swords as the Buffalo Sabres began been selling them in 2025. But they are a hit. As long as no one drinks too much and uses one as a weapon.

That is quite the sight of many different school bands in their various colored uniforms getting to be on the Coliseum field

DON: Hard to make out what SC has until they play Oregon, and then we will have a clearer idea
DON: But I don’t like how Maiava still throws near interceptions. Does he have a problem with his accuracy?

Beer swords for $60 ? Barnum was right

Often attributed to Barnum, it actually appeared in print long before Barnum was born. Barnum did mention the adage in his autobiography, but only to describe his own regret after spending too much money on a trip to Philadelphia.

But the point remains – and we do in fact live largely in the world that he could teach more people about than any institution or guru. As a story we were forced to read back in the days of teaching kids critical thinking was entitled: “Eversomuchmoreso” … or my simplistic dumbed down take on it “Selling Thin Air”

Oh, I never disputed its validity! This story over the weekend was great evidence of it.

you would have to shotgun that beer. in a clear glass like that the sun on a hot day will warm up that beer in minutes! Arte Moreno wanted to stop selling large beers at the Big A the reason was he said “i like to drink my beer cold”.

Yeah they need to tighten up recruiting better players lol . Anyone from before the 2026 class doesn’t seem to be that good at playing football.

wolfman, of all the fight videos on Youtube, the only video where the home fans are fighting amongst each other is the trOJies!! i know i saw a lot of anger in that video of trOJies punching each other! why all the pent-up rage, wolfman?? handing out weapons is a ticking time bomb, wolfman, at least you’re on record pointing out this danger beforehand!

KAM: Do you believe that the SC coaches and players bouncing up and down on the sideline affects the team’s on-field performance?
DON: It helps keep the reserves in the game. But when you step on the field there is no smiling since you can’t help but take it seriously

You need all that beer in the sword to cope with watching yet another late game defensive collapse.

Need a higher ABV than beer can provide for that!

KAM: For nearly 30 years ucla football has not mattered. Alumni called it “Battered Bruins Syndome”

On this site I used to (counter) antagonize the Artist Known Then As Just Owns (whom I tagged with the moniker The Mule) by pointing out that UCLA hasn’t won a football game that ultimately matters since New Years Day 1976 (Dick Vermeil’s swan song upset of Woody’s last great Buckeyes team that deprived him of a last national title), and that their home stadium (at least through the end of the Pete Carrol era) was more USC’s domain than their own (after having been driven out of the then “Mausoleum”).
But to be fair, there have been occasional moments in the years since … just not as many as there should have been (a boat both programs are all to familiar with now). Certainly the 2006 USC game was unforgettable (still gut wrenching to have thrown away a national title on a simple failure of the SarKiff’thing to make an adjustment by keeping an extra blocker in or chipping on the backside edge or to roll out Booty … as they then did in the Rose Bowl second half to rout Michigan). And there have been others (the 1998 loss to Miami in the rescheduled game, the 1986 Rose Bowl win over Iowa, the 1988 loss to USC, the 1990 win over Washington).
Same way I feel about all rivals (and what I most despise about Wiley’s destruction of USC’s football culture and heritage along with the continuation from the Helton era of not playing physical football) – the games are more fun when both programs are succeeding and the games have more meaning. 1967, 69, 75-78, 80-82, 87-89 … games like those.

Have a copy of that game in my collection – is a fascinating watch (given the regular season result juxtaposed with the Bruins handing it to the Buckeyes in the second half hard, Woody the Insufferable in his 4th straight but with no McKay in the opposite corner, Griffin 2x Heisman, Wendell Tyler, John Schiarra, both teams wearing home uniforms, and it being Dick Vermeil’s last game). Also coming on the heels of the great regular season “Reece Bowl” finale (the wrong result obtaining and being McKay’s regular season finale notwithstanding) … great stuff.

We were in SoCal over the weekend. Instead of going to the USC game-we opted to go see our friend who is the bassist in One Republic play at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday and Saturday. Traffic was horrible even at midnight both days. I don’t miss the traffic! BTW, I kept checking the score during the concert on Saturday
