USC Saturday Buzz: Is A 1,000-Yard Game Coming?

Folks, we’ve got a barn burner coming.

Grandpa Patterson, who gave up 504 yards to Oregon, vs. D’Anton Lynn, who gave up 506 yards to Northwestern last night.

Could we have 1,000 yards in offense when USC plays Penn State next week?

But first we have mighty Washington coming to the Coliseum today.

A coach who worked with Patterson for years called me this morning.

“This is the perfect day for Grandpa to flip the script, with Jedd Fisch struggling,” he said.

I asked him about the defensive calls being sent in late during games?

“He likes to do that but the players hate it,” the coach said. “Some coaches want to see what the offense is doing and they have their ways and won’t change it.”

  1. DON: I recall the days when teams had more rushing yards than passing. It was more of a “3-yards and a cloud of dust” time, quarterbacks would only have 150-yards or less passing

KAM: But then teams found out they can score more by passing, and the game changed into 1000-yard affairs

  2. KAM: The coach who loses this SC-Washington game could be fired

DON: I don’t believe I could be deeply involved in a sports team, there’s too much losing to deal with

  3. KAM: Mississippi St was rated and thought they might have a chance against Alabama, but then it is 21-7 ‘Tide after the 1st quarter

DON: High hopes turn to ‘no hope’

    1. KAM: Our future coach Kalen DeBoer has the Crimson Tide playing well so far.

DON: Up 42-17 over Miss St in the 3rd quarter.

  5. Jed The Fish pulls off an upset, Riley still says the defense is “close”, Cohen heads to Liquor Barn, fans stay away in droves, USC continues to be the laughingstock of college football.

Good news is……. ArboGASBAG chokes on an S&M gag ball, and no SC player tried to decapitate anyone.

  6. KAM: Seems strange to be seeing college football scores starting at 9 in the morning

DON: Those tv guys are squeezing every ad dollar out of the games they can.

KAM: Football is an advertiser’s dream because of its many seamless changing of teams with the ball. Soccer can’t do that and is one reason it never made it big in America

  7. Pressure always wins on defense. Bend but don’t break always breaks and keeps your defense on the field much too long.Three and four man fronts with two LB’s never stops a team that can run. Pete Carroll had good defenses because he always pressured and mixed up the pass rushes with QB containment. It’s called defensive discipline, just watch Cignetti’s defenses. Is Trent Mosely playing today? fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

  8. KAM: Mosley’s not going to play again, maybe for the rest of the season.

DON: We don’t even know the extent of his injury. What bothers me is that Bowman is probably out too
