USC Notes: This Might Be Last Chance To Get Running Game Right

If USC can’t run the ball against Penn State, will it be able to run the ball against any team on the schedule the rest of the season?

The Nittany Lions’ rushing defense ranks 97th nationally.

  • Now I am not saying I actually believe this, but this is the view USC’s website shows for a $600 ticket to the Ohio State game. The shade is a plus.

  1. On the bright side if you do find yourself at a USC game this season (and hopefully didn’t pay to go) at least in this seat you could avoid viewing Miley Coyote unless you wanted to walk up to the railing to vent …

BTW – Tolerating Miley Wiley just got easier watching a News Radio rerun where Lisa asks “Who is Wile E. Coyote?”

  2. Riley Wormley (soph) and Shahn Alston (frosh) should get more carries if Miller and Waymo falter. They have looked very good in their limited opportunities, both average about 5.5 yards per carry.

      1. …But expect the worst officiating in the history of man [it’s tough for those dweebs to disappoint the white out crowd]….

  3. Penn State is not a good team. “White Out” crap or not, they are who they are. Pete would bury them. And he wouldn’t need a shoulder tapper to do it.

  4. I can tell from the way Jayden answers question that he knows the press isn’t his [or anybody’s] friend….

    He gives them nothing….but with a smile….

  5. Penn State by 21 in a “white out” game the home crowd will be a huge advantage. The “last stand” for Lincoln Riley. 42-21 Lions. Defense wins games on the road USC has zero defensive line pressure on the QB.

      1. Noooo —we cannot go with “let it be” —– we MUST win! We MUST, I tell you!!

        And WE WILL WIN!

  6. Good analysis in today’s SCNG (OC Reg, Daily News et. al.) by Haley Sawyer…worth a read. tf

The defense seems ready to replicate what they dished out to WA – 116 yd rush & 245 pass 5 sacks…article cites defense coming together swiftly and Patterson is again ‘up in thd box’ for tomorrow’s game as he was last week against WA – the best defensive perf so far this year.

    Look for a solid win.

    1. KAM: USC has a Sandusky level scandal. The president of the University of Southern California, C.L. Max Nikias, resigned in disgrace as a former campus gynecologist, Dr. George Tyndall, made sexual comments and inappropriately touched patients during pelvic exams.

DON: More than 300 people, including many former student patients, reported his misconduct dating back to the early 1990s. USC administrators did not report the incident to the Medical Board of California, nor did they notify the patients.

  7. KAM: Although there won’t be any tearing down the goal posts tomorrow night, but there is still local excitement for their ‘Lions to take down the Trojans

DON: The ‘SC’ name still does carry football relevance, but Troy hasn’t put two good seasons together since Carrot

  8. KAM: With a Penn St win Wiley will take the lead from Ton-o-Hel

DON: They both win about 2/3 of their games or 66% which is about 30% less than what Trojans will accept

  9. Per ESPN, Penn ST is 18-2 in white out games since 2004. yikes. SC should try something like that using their pimp-inspired burgundy and gold threads.

    1. Not a Cardinal Sin but SC’s color is actually cardinal red . Together with the gold produces a hot blaze that used to strike fear in the enemy

    2. There was only one, true ‘White Out’ game in all of football history —-it occurred the time the bruins showed up in lily white uniforms —and got humiliated 50-0.

      1. KAM: And Pat Haden tarmacked Kifin the next season.

DON: And USC lost 3 straight to the Bruins, Pat Haden replaced Kiffin with Drunk Sark, sacked Drunk Sark and snubbed Ed Oregeron for Hugs.

  10. KAM: And so the Trojans have landed in greater Pennsylvania and it is now noon in the country with hopefully some turning autumn leaves to entrance our boys

DON: Yeah, seeing everything with their groggy jet-lagged eyes. No wonder they give home teams at least 3-points

      1. Mike – Good opening music for Metallica, but can’t hold a candle to Iommi’s ability to conjure pure evil out of the six string (Hetfield would agree)! USC under Pete embodied both (Clint Eastwood in “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly”) … could sure use just a little of that … but hopefully that time will come back around … some day …

      2. “There are two kinds of people in the world, my friend: Those with a rope around their neck, and those who do the cutting.”

That second kind – Tuco doesn’t specify whether they are required to do the cutting … Taco Jen! Don’t do the cutting this time!

  11. KAM: I know football players put a lot of energy into their play, but I imagine there are big games where they might put out even more. It looks like these Penn St ‘White Out’ games are one of those big games

DON: With Nittany Lions as angry as real lions

  12. The line of sight for the seats on both sides of the tower only allow the ticket holder to see about ten percent of the field. Who designed the stadium with such poor line of sight seating. Every other college and pro stadium has boxes around the top rim of the stadium, not down the middle at the fifty yard line that blocks the views of seats on either side. This design didn’t protect historical integrity either. The stadium is great for the rich donors in the tower boxes on the fifty yard line, but terrible for many others. And, the peristyle end could have been incorporated into the seating or at least made into a grassy slope. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

  13. Best way to offset the Penn State “white out” attire for the game is for to pull out the ALL BLACK TROJAN UNIFORMS- HELMETS, JERSEY’S, PANTS, SOCKS, SHOES, AND MOUTHPIECES. For a change USC would like warriors it would shock the opponent, and the crowd. PLUS NO JUICE BOXES ON THE SIDELINES….

DON: What a legend. , Mike Ditka is not the only Bears coach to win a Super Bowl; he won a Super Bowl as a player (Dallas), assistant coach( Dallas), and head coach.

    1. Believe was also on the 1963 Bears NFL championship team that interrupted the Lombardi dynasty for a year. A real man. He and Ryan (Buddy, not Rob or Rex!) were quite the pair on that monster 1985 Chicago team.

      1. Regardless of whether the sheep were nervous! Although around the ’63 Bears, ’71 Cowboys, or ’85 Bears, they were probably justifiably terrified!
