Saturday Buzz: Pick USC-Penn State Score After Washington Demolished

Did you watch Iowa demolish Washington?

Now those of you who think I grade USC harshly in my report cards know why. That win over Washington wasn’t impressive in any way.

Washington had minus-3 yards rushing against Iowa. The Huskies had 116 yards rushing against USC.

So what is your score prediction now for the Penn State game? Penn State has over 110,000 tickets out for the game.

Pete Thamel reports “WR Trent Mosley and DT Jide Abasiri are considered true game-time decisions. They’ll warm up at Penn State and try to go. TE Mark Bowman is also expected to attempt to play, but there’s less optimism.”

Post your score prediction here.

    1. Hope you are wrong, brother. This season like so many other seasons, has been nauseating. At some level, you just want it to be over, despite the fact that I am a 60-plus year fan (first game was in 1967, I was 9 then). Where is the Pepto-Bismol?

      1. Just thinking of all of the games over the years all the way back to then where you want to reach for that anti-acid/nausea (referring to the ones that got away … starting in ’67 with that 0-3 egg laid in the Corvallis mudhole).

  1. DON: It looked like Oregon was working over Bowman, and now we know

KAM: Iowa’s slaughter of Washington takes the bloom off of SC’s Huskies’ victory.

DON: But every football game plays out differently and the Penn St game could go either way

  2. It should be USC 31 PSU 20

but I worry it will be PSU 24 USC 16

And Udub lost their QB at end of the first half against Iowa, he is literally their entire offense.

The problem with USC is that they may be the most underperforming team in P4. Lots of talent, lots of confusion on defense, lots of mistakes, lots of a lot of bad stuff.

    1. Agreed ’67 – cause just can’t get rid of the Wileystone around their neck … average competent coach at USC and this team is a 2 -3 loss team at worst and maybe squeaks into the playoff (over the mandatory SEC/ESPN howling) … good coach, 1 or 2 loss team possibly with a bye and a slight shot … great coach, 0 or 1 losses (they are not perfect – there are holes in the roster due to Miley’s recruiting/portal focus – but a great head coach necessarily entails a great staff, so someone coaching up the existing players to a much higher level of performance and competitiveness) and a real shot. Great coach with another year to work on improving the roster through recruiting/portal – 0 losses and a favorite to win the championship. The talent base USC has is still the biggest advantage in all of collegiate football, despite the $ being thrown away at programs like Texas Tech (not to mention the Ohio States and Alabamas and Texases).

  3. KAM: We already know Ohio St is beatable. Now Indiana is having gobs of travel in Nebraska. SC can beat these teams

DON: Hold your horses, SC first has to get through Penn St

      1. Mizzou just did same against A&M – dominated first half but only up by 7 at the half (of course A&M isn’t coached by Cignetti).

      2. Fun fact (not a fact, but still fun) – best college football joke of all-time (that I’m aware of), and of all things, heard it from my ex (she heard it while driving all over the Midwest visiting hospitals and doctors’ offices for the devil so to speak).

What is the difference between a Corn Husker and a Corn Flake? One belongs in a bowl, and the other doesn’t …

[This was Bill Callahan and forward timeframe obviously]

      3. MG – in Jerry Kramer’s “Distant Replay” Lombardi also supposedly said to Max McGee that if he could find a bar worth a $1000 fine (during training camp and late 1960s $alaries) to come and get him so he could go too …

      4. Mizzou did not let up this time – put a stomping on the Aggies and Jamal Roberts somehow making the loss of last season’s national rushing champion Ahmad Hardy not a problem (Mizzou today looks like what classic USC looked like – flat out physically dominating one of the highest payroll rosters in the country).

      1. MG – Some things you don’t need to find out about … Ohio State will destroy USC this year … Day isn’t perfect by any stretch, and Ohio State laid an egg during the second half in Austin (and throughout the playoff against the U last winter) … but no way barring a game-cancelling traffic accident they don’t bag the Coyote and give him a grand kicking … as said in response to ’67 above, shouldn’t be that way, and if they would just hire a competent coach, wouldn’t be (Larry Smith beat Ohio State twice).

  4. DON: Indiana went from a 75% favorite down to a 33% favorite after one-half with Nebraska

KAM: But you know how odds can radically change with one score

    1. Nebraska panicked when they were in a position to phuck Indiana good at the end of the half…. both throws sucked …and you knew in advance the kicker would blow it [cuz that’s what happens when a team blows the 6]….

  5. KAM: I would love to be at Nebraska’s stadium now with its team giving the national champs all they want

DON: It harkens back to the 1970s-1980s Cornhusker teams

    1. The 1990s team were the greatest Husker teams (from 1993-97 they lost 1 regular season game against Jake Plummer and the Sun Devils in a season opener while being 2-time defending perfect national champions … choked a Big 12 title and thus a national title to a lesser Texas team … lost on a missed last second FG against Bowden). The 1970s and 80s teams were great though … those teams would be up 49-0 on those Hoosiers and playing backups (and if IU played like they are today against those teams, it would be about the same, Cignetti or no).

      1. I remember turning on the TV back in the day the Cornhuskers were supposed to be great —only to see UCLA players on the bench laughing and joking …and a scoreboard showing UCLA up 28 to 0 in the first half….

      2. Did happen once … but not the other times they played (or UCLA had to play Oklahoma … or even Kansas … can’t joke about that latter, since they also beat Tollner’s first team in the Coliseum).

  6. Off subject –I just saw 2 different news reports telling us winds got to 115 miles an hour in Gulf Breeze Florida — I checked the weather channel reports and found that the winds were around 19 miles an hour throughout the “rampage” —-what the phuck gives?

When reported correctly & honestly, wind speeds, surf size, inches of rain are real metrics. We’re not getting that. [btw, Now the media is going with outages as a metric — outages can be manufactured]….

I say all this cuz Maui has officially been hit with, like, 40 hurricanes since we’ve lived here —but we’ve never had anything beyond 33 mile an hour winds —something we got ALL the time in Oakland…..

    1. Not new – has been going on for some time … I constantly get amusement out of pointing this out to younger people who just go along with the official narrative, and when they question it, point out how lazy the true disinformationists are by sending them to watch YouTube sporting events (such as the 1982 AFC Championship Game in Cincinnati, or the 1980 MLB All Star Game in Los Angeles – yeah, extreme heat and cold just materialized!) … or ask them to read about the 1986 Challenger disaster (final conclusion being that material in an O-ring failed due to prolonged sub-freezing temperatures in Cape Canaveral, Florida … same timeframe as the Super Bowl Ditka coached the Bears in, played on a brutally cold day). I played 6th grade summer baseball in Kansas City in 1980 and (again, how lazy the disinformationists are at covering their trail) the National Weather Service records verify we played multiple games on days where the temperature (not the heat index) reached 108-110. Nothing new.

      1. James — I remember playing Little League games at Stoner Park [great fricking name] when the smog was so bad [1961-62] that you couldn’t breathe by the time you got home….

      2. That park should have been preserved with that name sort of akin to Field of Dreams! I’m envisioning young later Dead members hanging out there (before anyone might respond – not a fan, but took a girlfriend in college to the “Touch of Gray” tour in Charlotte and had to admit – everyone was pretty darned happy and friendly).
