Sunday Buzz: USC Did BYU A Big Favor

USC did BYU a huge favor.

The Cougars have a signature victory, a case to be ranked No. 1 and a clear path to CFP because Lincoln Riley did not want to play Notre Dame.

It also helps the reputation of Big 12 teams like Utah and Texas Tech, who also have College Football Playoff aspirations.

  • Meanwhile, Penn State lost to Michigan on Saturday. So Lincoln Riley’s signature win came against a team that is 3-4. But it was a White Out!

  1. Watching ucla fly around to the ball, how organized and in position they are on defense- and how quick the RB and receivers are- SC will be fortunate to win that game. That said- the title is up for grabs if you’re a quality team- a lot of the teams have holes. If there ever was a year to have a chance- this could be it- except we have a doofus as a head coach.

    1. I commented about 9 months ago about how I wanted someone like Sitake who does well at a school where recruiting is tough and someone replied that recruiting was not difficult at BYU. I didn’t know the actual numbers, but thanks!

That’s essentially what SUCLA did, in getting someone who did well at two small schools before they grabbed him. They haven’t really beaten anyone yet, but as I stated before…they have every reason in the world to be excited about the near future of their program. (Excuse me as I vomit. Those words left a bad taste in my mouth and on my fingers.)

      1. Socal dead on right – Bel-Air Tech hasn’t faced anyone save OR. That was a solid road win for them beggars why USC had such trouble with them (OR) at home. The sole opponent left for the Bruins is @ MI 21st Nov. 1 week prior to facing USC at the Rose Bowl.
In watching the game I did notice Chesney reminds one of a taller version of ‘Zelensky’ esp before half-time when he was all over the official on the side line.

WI had chances but their QB cost them as is the case with all teams.

I thought Gabby said a few days back that he was going to the USC marching band pep rally today at the Palms at 2:00 and wanted to “meet up” with Scott. Instead, he spent the day trolling the blog. Once again a threat followed by a no show. That’s our Cowardly Gabby. All talk, no walk.

  2. Hey Blogger, how about a post comparing USC & UCLA at this point in the season. Comparison of RB’s, LB’s, special teamsand even coaching/game day coaching. I’m sure that will be a great read.

      1. Remember Charlie – USC/UCLA combined 1 loss games tend to work out very well (if you have OJ, Ricky Bell, Rodney Pete, Reggie Bush) … so don’t you let down over there!

    1. just read a “trojan Wire” article grading Jayden’s first half season; they gave him an A. i doubt the wolfman would give him an A, due to consistency issues. most school papers are staffed by Homers and Fan Boys, so not a surprise, however, the wolfman was never a homer, fan boy or company man!!

  3. Scott, that was a great win by BYU over the princess university. It pointed out the weakness of the ND schedule and why they need USC more than we need them. We will start playing them again in a few years to renew the tradition, but we will play them on our terms not theirs. ND needs to join a conference. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

  4. ambitious nailed it ….. ‘the princess’ arrayed all their annual punching bags to enhance their loyal sycophants in the ‘ntl’ (NYC) media of ‘…this is the year…’ but when that formula was finally placed against a ntl’ ranked opponent on the road. it fizzled. I will admit the game could have gone either way as the Miami-FL St. and OH St. – IN games could have. A factor, they didn’t have their ‘deadhead’ fans in tow in Provo as they do everywhere else….’think rent jealous spectators when USC faces them at the Coliseum – bel-air tech fans). Great games played yesterday.

  5. And SC knocking out the duck QB is going to lead to an undefeated bruin regular season unless SC can stop them.

UCLA will still make the playoffs. Playoffs in year one. Year 5, still no playoffs for SC.

The fact ND lost makes me happy. The face they lost because the refs apparently screwed them makes me even happier.

  6. Enjoyable to me because of the end of the 2005 game (remember how they blatantly tried to homer 10 seconds off the clock at the end of the game?) … yeah, hard to have any sympathy for ND … have always been okay with UCLA, Washington, Arizona State, Cal, Washington State, Arizona … but no sympathy for ND or Oregon (for Stanford) …

    1. Especially hard to feel sorry since on the play before they got away with the kind of obvious hold that caused the Notre Dame offensive lineman committing it put his hands in the air “saying I didn’t hold”…..
