USC Morning Buzz: It’s A Day For Bad Punditry

Former Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez has always had, for lack of a better phrase, a big mouth.

Here is what he said on his radio show about USC.

“They don’t play in front of anybody. They have a big stadium with nobody in it. They’re not used to a full stadium with a loud house. We have the advantage in this situation. Huge advantage. And we have to take advantage of it.

“We’re putting Southern Cal into a position they don’t normally get into.”

This would all sound pretty good if USC didn’t play Penn State two weeks ago before 115,000.

Does Alvarez even know this?

Now if he had said Wisconsin is a better team than Penn State and combined with the crowd, that will be a factor, OK. But I doubt he even knows USC played at Penn State.

  • College basketball pundit Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports says USC is going to the Sweet 16.

I would feel better about this prediction if Rothstein wasn’t always bullish on the Trojans, because he’s enjoyed a cozy relationship with the coaches dating back to Andy “Thanks” Enfield.

  1. Encouraging injury report from yesterday, hopefully Bowman and Abisiri are back and Thanos is at full strength. And hopefully USC doesn’t need to resort to a trick “QB jersey on the punter” to win.

  2. DON: With all the money SC is shelling out for its basketball team they had better make the Sweet 16

KAM: The heck with that, this might be SC’s best chance to win it all

  3. One out of seven games means that Alvarez is not wrong. He didn’t say we NEVER play in front of a lot of people. He said we don’t “normally” play in front of a lot of people.

Slow [USC] news day, I guess.

    1. Can we also get a “Wilburrrr” next time Mr. Ed? A show about a guy living in Malibu with a hot wife who spends his time making art with a Talking Horse – LSD came to Hollywood early.

  4. trOJies and Gutties ranked 20&21 respectively in AP pre-season poll. So more good competition on the horizon for BBall As well as football. Now if we could only get Lil Stanky ranked in baseball we could really have something!

  5. I would point out to the resident Dummies, in addition to calling out Fan Boys, Homers, company Men and sycophants, the wolfman is quick to challenge any perceived undeserved slights directed at SC! A true trOJie!

  6. Scooter,

How many times has SC heard those famous words, SC hasn’t played in our stadium where it is a sellout crowd, loud, and the home team is great. In the old days when you would hear that, SC would dominate. Look at auburn, ND, lsu, tennesee, michigan, ohio st. and others. He sounds like a broken record.
