USC Vs. Wisconsin Live Blog

It’s hard for me to keep stating things I’ve said for years but you cannot have an anti-social, stubborn, arrogant jerk who cannot focus on anything but his play sheet and doesn’t respect complementary football as coach and expect things to change

USC fans in Camp Randall Stadium are chanting “Fire Riley”

Third-worst rushing performance in the history of USC football. Minus-17 yards. Dearie me.

Total debacle. Totally outcoached. It doesn’t surprise the readers because they know. It’s the fanboys who are reeling right now.

We’ll always have the White Out!

Mike Ekeler, the special teams savant!

The rejuvenated defense myth got exposed (again)

USC rushed for 10 yards in 16 carries in the first half

It’s not great when you can’t stop the run vs. a team that can’t pass. Wisconsin 10, USC 7.

Someone needs to tell Luke Fickell to stop chewing gum.

USC finally scores and takes a 7-3 lead. Can the Tomato Can QB muster a response?

Has anyone besides me discussed the poor run blocking this season?

And another interception for Maiava!

Underthrow Maiva with another interception.

The Wisconsin QB looks like a tomato can.

Tight end Mark Bowman is not in uniform for the game.

Wisconsin band spells out USC in pre-game show.

Caleb Williams is at the game.

  3. Wisconsin reduced to running a primitive single wing style attack … and looking like they might be able to physically overwhelm USC enough to succeed with it … just inexcusable … Riley being USC’s head coach at this point would be a like a cook retaining a head chef position at the world’s best restaurant even though they had poisoned a house full of customers repeatedly.

    1. Perfectly said! Without a doubt, this was the doofuses magnum opus. 2 weeks to prepare for a team that can’t pass the ball, and this is the pile of crap he showed America. Is the strength and conditioning coaches feeding estrogen to our D and O line? How is it no players grow their game in his program? The team is him- weak, erratic, overhyped ego, undisciplined, and stupid. F LR, his staff, his stupid visor, and his playbook. The one good thing he said after the game was finally admit to how poor he and the team were- only took him 5 years. I love SC- but this isn’t USC football, we have to rip off the bandaid and start over with a culture builder. As such, I hope we get decimated over the next 3 games- which we will, so that missing in action Jen will have to do something

    2. Couldn’t have said it better – you have nailed it all in this one post.

I’m watching my copy of the 1980 Rose Bowl … the final drive where Robinson finally told Hackett no more cleverness, no more finesse, no more passes … all use the big monsters on the offensive line and batter them … when USC was Munoz, Buddy, Foster, Van Horne, Foote … Mosebar and Matthews on the bench … and a defense that #1 Ohio State had one big (broken coverage) play against all day and couldn’t gain a yard on with four cracks from the 1 …

    1. How?? Where exactly will the buyout money come from? Sl you have an extra $70 M to spare. I know I don’t and most alums have shown no interest.

      1. I’m not enjoying it, trojan4life, but I have a realistic and sobering outlook. He will most likely not be fired and will be coach next year…$65+ million is not coming from anywhere/anyone (not to mention what the athletic will have to dish out to get another supposed top notch coach that may or may not pan out yet again).

How long were proven mediocre coaches kept past their expiration date after they proved to be crummy? USC’s athletic culture has changed. Kim is perhaps better than Folt in terms of athletics, but not by much.

      2. Jimbo Fisher $77 million, Brian Kelley $56 million and James Franklin $49 million. These schools because of their football heritage they didn’t accept mediocrity. Sadly, not USC and as long as this debacle continues we will always be on the outside looking in.

      3. They can find $12M+ a year for 5 years, Paco. It’s not an insignificant amount of money, but it won’t be the hurdle you & many others think it will be.

      4. Paco,

I had said to have the fans show up when the team gets home. However, I would never want violence. Just vocal shouting at Riley telling him that he is not fit to coach at SC. Violence is only for self defense. I hope this clears things up

Through 58 games at USC, Lincoln Riley has an overall record of 39-19, which is identical to Clay Helton’s record of 39-19 at the same point in his tenure. However, Riley’s performance against ranked opponents is notably worse, with a record of 5-15 compared to Helton’s 10-16.

      1. As much as I detested Helton, he did somehow manage to parlay Sam Darnold, Ronald Jones, and Adorre Jackson into a miraculous last second Rose Bowl win over James Franklin … and at the time we heckled him and Swann for it … not quite, but you could argue that those were glory days compared to Miley Coyote … not a single win of any significance … not one.

        Liked by 1 person

    2. Perish the thought, James. But yeah, I bet Clay is looking at this disastrous loss and thinking “I could’ve done better” as he leans back in his desk, takes a sip of his Coke, and throws another peanut shell on the floor.

-17 rushing yards, folx. 2 INTs. Line isn’t worth a damn. Wise had only 200 total yards…200, yet made it a 3 possession game. Let that sink in. Crazy thing is, Clay probably couldn’t have done worse.

      1. Great analysis. The rushing stats (which are consistent with the eye test of USC being manhandled at the line of scrimmage – again) are so damning to the air raid idiocy. I mentioned in another comment – Clay won a Rose Bowl (of course it took Darnold, Jones, Jackson, etc., to do it on a last second kick). Riley hasn’t won a game of any consequence. Not one.

    3. The evidence is damning, James.

Admin kept Clay way past his due date and justified it publicly every steps of the way. Hope folks understand why I am highly skeptical that Lincoln will be fired when most alums and the extended base has been behind LR until this year.

    1. Pudley! Him and Abraham have been polishing the USC football turd ever since Pete left … at least with Abraham it’s understandable (even if aggravating, like watching bought/paid for propaganda press) since he’s selling his product using coverage.

      1. Kids are too delicate these days, if recruits see fans blasting the players they’ll go elsewhere. USC needs to display the balls to do what it takes to better the program. Fire Riley’s dumbass during the season, forget waiting

  8. I think the magic number for Lincoln Riley is 2027. He’ll really put it all together. He has his first-class football facility, which he says is better than the McKay Center. He has a dirver to pick him up in Palos Verdes, thereby allowing him to shotgun phone calls to 5 Star Recruits; and to draw up “physical” air raid plays on his iPad. He complained about the 10 minute walk from his parking spot to Howard Jones Field, so his driver drops him off right at the entrance gate, thereby allowing him to observe players stretching before practice. He has his 2026 No. 1 high school recruiting class coming back as sophmores in 2027, ready to win a Big Ten championship. He will win all his conference games “his way” just like Frank Sinatra did. And tell everybody its Us against the world, like when he dominated #1 ranked Penn State a couple weeks ago. I think his lunches might even be comped at Taco Lita by Jenn “who stole my Vibrator” Cohen. Yes 2027 is the year.

  9. Turn out the lights the party is over for this season. LR had two weeks to prepare for this game, and this is what they had for it. Offense, the supposed LR strength, lost this game. I will forever apologize to Scott for criticizing his snarky LR comments….he was right on target. It’s really bad when the only thing that we have to cheer is an Oregon loss. UCLA will make the playoffs and deserve to because Chesney is an outstanding head coach and we have a glorified OC who can’t prepare, scheme or adjust within a game. Tarmac LR a move on. I said all season for us to judge by what we see on the field. Well, we saw an inept coaching staff led by one of the worst head coaches in USC history. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

      1. We have both lived through the last season of Larry Smith, as well as Paul Hackett, Ted Tollner and Clay Helton. We were spoiled by John McKay, JR I and Pete Carroll. Just find a Chesney, Cignetti type coach who is young enough to grow with the program but has had success at a lower level. Your thoughts on the Fresno State coach who had FCS championships? Hope does spring eternal, but my time for victories is limited so sooner rather than later. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962. And, thanks for the kind comment.

“He complains because this is the repetitive ‘nose out if joint’ whining by Wolf specifically Riley but also the athletic department.

We have: a new university president. A new training center….a new heritage center….a new baseball field…an ascending football program moving towards its’ 7th victory against WI…Defensive Coach Gary Patterson has much more confidence in his staff thus.. up to the coaching box…the 2nd year GM Chad Bowden is prudently spreading NIL monies to those who produce. The team is jelling steadily….defeat WI tomorrow and prepare for OH St…

  13. This air raid finesse football culture at USC must go. Wisconsin had far inferior talent yet they all played hard on every single play, and knew it’s easy to defeat USC by just being physical at the line of scrimmage.

Time and time again I see our offensive lineman standing around. They are slow, lack movement laterally and have no intensity. Has Maiava forgot how to run to offset the pass rush my goodness he just runs laterally time and time again further and further backward from the line of scrimmage every time there is a pass rush. Why did we not see any screen passes to offset the pass rush there was so many holes in our offensive line it looked the falling walls of the Alamo back in the day.

I predicted a 7-5 season it’s time for a change. Paying a football coach 12 million who can’t motivate young men is a big waste of money it’s time to move on from Lincoln Riley it all starts at the top.

    1. If only they would have done it when the time was right … I’m guessing he and Saban (kind of like what happens to all coaches – we saw it with JRob II, but I’m thinking of later Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells stints) are past the point where they could dredge up that energy to drive a program to the peak … which leaves us with the fact that (other than Howard Jones, as another person educated me on this site) USC has never hired a great coach – on purpose (McKay and Pete being happy accidents, JRob I being actually not that great of a hire) … and so we (to paraphrase an above hilarious post) must “trust the process” … thank the maker (to steal a C3PO line from Star Wars – hey, George Lucas, come on down and buy out the Life of Riley!) it’s hockey season.

  14. The Lincoln Riley hire has been worse than even the Paul Hacket hire in 1998. The initial fanfare surrounding his hiring with the promise of Nation Championship titles has fallen empty after 5 years of nothing but embarrassing results.
