Morning Buzz: The Sports World Descends On USC

It’s a big day for the sports world at USC.

USC dad Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless hosted First Take on campus this morning.

And an all-day USC Sports Business Summit is also taking place at the Tutor Center near Tommy Trojan.

Among those speaking are Burke Magnus, President of Content; ESPN; volleyball player Misty May-Treanor; agent Joel Wolfe; Rams GM Les Snead; Sparks GM Ariana Andonian; Rich Eisen of NFL Network; USC Olympian Rai Benjamin along with current USC athletes Jazzy Davidson, Saniyah Hall and Alijah Arenas.

It’s interesting Lincoln Riley is not involved even though it’s a bye week. But if you know him, it’s not surprising.

Maybe Pete Carroll will stop by since he is teaching his class this afternoon.

    1. Wiley seems like the type that votes MAGA, so maybe like the pompous, yet loud and feebleminded MAGAs on this blog, he is afraid to show his face and blare his crackpot views (from a written statement, of course).

  1. If Pete is there he needs to invite you on up to the stage with him Scott! Caesar and (Octavian? Crassus? Pompey? Cato? We know it’s not Balbus or else you’d already have bought the Coyote out for us!) …

Shockingly, the Rams GM is there, but not the Chargers … no way! As a lifelong doomed to suffering Chargers fan, it is only befitting … of course, if the low voltage had shown, maybe Harbaugh would have tagged along … imagine Pete and him on the stage together (one suspect that not all lingering antagonism will ever fade) …

      1. KAM: He didn’t have to, it is understood they are Communists all!

DON We had the choice in LA LA Land of a Castro Stalinist or a Maoist. The Maoist Communist won.

      2. Policies are for nerds. We just like dismantling things! Besides we’re busy compiling SDT lists for our interminable hearings!!!

      3. Yes, that’s true, Michael. But many people believe it is theirs.

Just look at the people who refer to OJ as a murderer, even though from a technical standpoint, he wasn’t. They believe it IS their place to judge.

Of course, any true believer knows it isn’t.

  3. During a man in the street interview a weary Parisian complained, ” we give one-third of our wealth to immigrants but they have been told they deserve more…..they hate us for being colonialists but we haven’t been for a hundred years.”

    1. Beware manic anti-immigrant rhetoric!! Hitler and the Big Peedo both built their evil empires on the pillars of fear and hate of immigrants. Unfortunately it often works since the enlightened are usually outnumbered by ignorant bigots!!

      1. KAM: That’s right, the Big Peedo Senile Joe was discipled by the Grand Kleagle of the K K K Robert Byrd, who was unanimously elected as the Exalted Cyclops (the leader) of his local chapter.

DON: Just as B J Clinton was discipled by segregationist J. William Fulbright. Bitterly racist, he fought to protect the Jim Crow laws that denied black citizens their constitutional rights. In 1956 Fulbright was one of ninety-nine congressional Democrats to sign the Southern Manifesto, which declared that the Southern states had a right to keep their populations segregated by race.

      2. If you’re saying it was wrong to threaten the country with interminable hearings I agree with you….

        …but I hope you do.

        Pride before the Fall….

    2. MG, I enjoy your comments regarding sports, but you are WAY OFF in citing that quote. Not only was a huge amount of wealth pilfered and extracted by those same European countries by way of hardcore violence from those former colonies and current “territories,” but the currencies and puppet governments of many of those same countries are still controlled by the same colonizing countries’ governments. People around the world are rebuking the turn to the far right in the past 10-15 years.
France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Albania, Serbia, but also Argentina, Colombia, India, and other nations have had mass protests against the far right, austerity, and corruption. It’s feeling a bit like the backlash against reactionary politics in ’60s!
