Stanford defeated USC, 11-7, in the NCAA championship match at Indianapolis.
USC led 3-1, 4-2 and 5-3 in the first half but it tied, 6-6, at halftime. Stanford then led 7-6 after the third quarter.
Now for some history: Former USC men’s and women’s polo coach Jovan Vavic won 15 NCAA titles in men’s and women’s water polo before he was fired during the 2019 season because of the Varsity Blues scandal.
USC has won only won one NCAA title since Vavic departed and it was in the 2019 season where he coached the team for half the season. It hasn’t won a water polo title since then.
Vavic was kinda important

Looking back, would it have been so terrible to have brought Vavic back to coach the 2nd half against Stanford?

Interesting since the women last won in 2021 under Marko Pintaric, and the time before that was 2018. The men haven’t won since 2018.
