Forward Bennie Boatwright is going to miss the rest of the basketball season with a knee injury. A snap reaction might be that the Trojans’ hopes is making an impact in the NCAA Tournament are finished.
On the other hand, USC sometimes looks like a team that could use more than one basketball with so many offensive-minded players. So maybe it won’t miss Boatwright as much as it thinks with Nick Rakocevic an able replacement. Besides, Boatwright’s been inconsistent, partly because of his injury.
If it does miss Boatwright, it is likely to be in a Pac-12 Tournament or NCAA Tournament game where he just might have gotten hot or hit a big shot. He was a streaky player (like many of the Trojans). The bottom line, though, is USC is down two starters (Boatwright, De’Anthony Melton) going into the final stretch of the season.
