USC is offering a lot of scholarships this week, mostly to offensive linemen. It makes sense: Toa Lobendahn and Chris Brown are seniors next season; Cole Smith retired; Nathan Smith might retire and Roy Hemsley is expected to transfer.
The most interesting lineman offered was Trevor Roberson of Wellington, Texas, who is 6-11 and 345 pounds. The conventional wisdom is that is too tall to play offensive tackle.
USC also offered offensive linemen Corey Luciano of Diablo Valley College; offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs of Belleville, Mich.; offensive guard Jakai Moore of Nokesville, Va., offensive tackle Javonne Shepherd (6-7, 305) of Houston and offensive tackle Michael Tarquin of Belleview, Fla.
USC also offered two tight ends: Isaiah Foskey of Concord De La Salle and Luke Deal of Greenwood, South Carolina.
The Trojans offered three wide receivers: Wide receiver Elijah Higgins of Austin, Texas; (6-2, 180); Puka Nacua of Orem, Utah and Jordan Whittington of Cuero, Texas.
Remember the usual caveats: Offers are meaningless. Commitments are meaningless. And USC always drops some recruits who commit early.
So basically what you are saying is that USC does what everyone else does. How interesting.

“Meaningless”? They why make any offers at all, just get kids by osmosis.

SC needs olinemen and d linemen. That 6’11” guy would be good as a defensive end.

Commitments & rankings are meaningless unless SC doesn’t get enough commitments from highly rated guys. In that case Helton sucks and only gets any commits because SC recruits itself.

Without a skills coach (who teaches blocking at college level) we could recruit the best linemen available and still only have a mediocre team. Either the coaches step up or they go no more wait ’til next year
