USC Sunday Buzz

Mission Viejo upset St. John Bosco in the Battle of the Beach passing tournament at Edison High School yesterday.

It’s especially an upset when Bosco has a five-star quarterback DJ Uiagalelei and five-star cornerback (Chris Steele).

Then again, does it matter when teams are playing in T-shirts and shorts and no linemen? This is why the rise of 7 on 7 football is good for raising the profile of high school football but no so great when analyzing.

Mater Dei won the tournament behind new quarterback Bryce Young, who has USC in his final six and will announce his school choice during the summer. It was the third straight year Mater Dei won.

  • Former USC cornerback Daylon McCutcheon’s son, Dyson, is a sophomore on the Bishop Amat High School football team.
  • Who had Belgium, France, England and Croatia in the World Cup Final Four?

      1. Yes, Pudly! Exactly! [Thanks for reminding all of us of that first, immortal sentence of “Caesar’s Conquests”]!

  1. This is a bit scary when you think about it. Can you imagine what would happen if the nanny state anti-tackle football group see these games. In a few years high school tackle football could be banned because of CTE . Some places have banned tackle football for kids under 12 years old

  2. LAA defeat LAD….take series….down 0 – 3 ….Pujols hits game tying home run in 5th and then a pinch hit monster home run by Shoei Ohtani for the lead in the bottom of the 7th!
