UCLA is 2-8. USC is 5-5. Neither is having a good season but that is a difference of three games.
But are UCLA fans happier right now about their future with Chip Kelly than USC fans would be if Clay Helton returned next season?
We all know UCLA will consider their season a success if the Bruins beat USC on Saturday.
This is the difference in the rivalry. USC fans don’t live and die on the result of the UCLA game. UCLA fans do.
“Beating ‘SC is not a matter of life or death, It’s more important than that,” legendary UCLA coach Red Sanders said.
USC’s own legend, John McKay, put it this way: “There is nothing worse than losing to UCLA and nothing better than beating Notre Dame.”
Whatever USC fans think of the Crosstown Rivalry, they do not tolerate a mediocre coach. And a win over a two-win UCLA team followed by a loss to Notre Dame will not cut it.
USC can hide behind its spin like this from Helton on Tuesday: “Lynn has given me nothing but, ‘Coach, we’re in this for the long haul.’ I know that in my heart I’m going to be here (next season).”
The problem is USC was desperate to sell football tickets going into this season even after back-to-back 10-win seasons. How empty will the Coliseum be next season coming off a 6-7 or 7-6 record?
Some optimists will try to say the team will be better. How? Who will develop the players? USC will still have a 6-1 QB who is not mobile.
USC has little to gain but a lot to lose Saturday. If the Trojans win, they merely beat a two-win team. If they lose, all hell breaks loose. Again.
That is the point, though. A complete meltdown forces action.
Here is a quote from author Brandon Sanderson: “Sometimes, you have to destroy something in order to build something better.”
Whether or not SUCLA fans are happy about their team at this point is irrelevant and unimportant because their whole miserable season will magically and promptly transform into a phenomenal success with a win against SC no matter what the score difference would be or how ugly it may be. It doesn’t happen to them often, so it’s a HUGE deal for them. I think they’ve got a good shot at it this Saturday, and you know what? As much as it pains me to say this, I would swallow this loss if it’s what’s required to finally let Helton go. But only this time, and never again.

Hey Measly Toejam, UCLA 37 – Cal 7 @ Cal.
Should the Bruins mug SUCC, no big thing, even though the bozo’s are headed the CFB playoffs. As usual, SUCC is all mouth and sideline antics but teensy deeds.

Jackov,
See how low you are? Even with an “accidental” win this week your pathetic team will be 3-8, and you lowly gutties will be going berserk roaming all around town for a year with maniacal ecstasy. We SC fans will NEVER be satisfied with that kind of unacceptable record even with a win against you little gutties, which clearly shows why you’re also-rans of SUCLA, and SC is, well, SC. Understand?

Just a bum,
First off, with your great knowledge of ugly, tell us truly how much did Johnny “Cheetin’ Peckerhead” Wooden spend from 1963 until he retired in 1975 by buying those pros?
Second, your football team in all those years that they have existed, has done nothing, oh, wait a minute, I am wrong, they have cost us tax payers a lot of money by allowing a bunch of prima donnas to stay at the Langley Hotel in Pasadena while Motel 6 would be good enough for them. Those meals that they get at the hotel are expensive as well. They could go to the Taco Bell on Colorado near Allen and eat there.
Ugly is nothing but a waste of time and money for the tax payers. I’m fed up paying for you bums.

UCLA football fans? Not many are left anymore. Reported paid attendance at homes games is 49,000, which means that there are far less than 40,000 after taking into account fans of the other team, no-shows, promotional tickets.
UCLA football has been irrelevant for decades. For the last 20 years, they only have three 10 win seasons. I doubt you will find many season ticket holders under the age of 50. Recent grads don’t even know much about the team, much less care. The fact that the stadium is so far away is a huge negative for their current students. Maybe they go to a handful of games while they are students, if any.

Lets see 10-3, 11-3 with Sam Darnold . 5-5 with no Sam Darnold. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure what the problem is.
I’ll take a 2-8 record with Chip Kelly over a a 5-5 with Clueless Clay anyday!!
If we have another 15 years of this bullshit Clueless Clay is going to run this program into the dirt!! GET ON SWANN BOOSTERS!

UCLA simply has never been relevant in football. They had the rescheduled Hurricane game which almost got them into a title game, but they blew it. They won a Heisman like 70 years ago. They list a butt-load of Rose Bowls in the 80’s and 90s, half of which were to Wisconsin, seemingly. They just don’t matter much.

2018 UCLA Student-Athlete Graduation Celebration Don Liebig, UCLA Photography
Bruin Athletics November 14, 2018
UCLA Records School-Best GSR of 90 Percent
Story Links
UCLA Athletics has recorded a school-best Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 90% – a rate that exceeds the national average of 88% for Division I schools. The 2018 GSR cohort is based on scholarship student-athletes who entered college as freshmen or transfers in the 2008-09 through 2011-12 classes.
Six Bruin squads – men’s tennis, women’s basketball, women’s golf, women’s gymnastics, softball and women’s tennis – had a GSR of 100 percent. All six of those teams finished fifth or higher at last year’s NCAA Championships, led by the national champion gymnastics team. Eighteen of the 20 programs had a GSR of 80 percent or higher, and 14 of the 20 were at 90 percent or higher. (UCLA has 25 sports; for this report, cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field are counted as one sport, and beach volleyball did not begin until 2013).
“At UCLA, on a campus with no shortage of achievements, this one stands out for a number of reasons,” said UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero. “Reaching such a high Graduation Success Rate is a testament to a long-term vision, a lot of hard work, and constant collaboration between our academic & student services staff, our coaching staffs, and of course, our student-athletes. I’m incredibly proud of this accomplishment, and know we will continue to strive for excellence, both athletically and academically.”
The GSR is the NCAA’s more comprehensive calculation of student-athlete academic success. The NCAA rate is more accurate than the federally-mandated methodology because it is more inclusive of the total student-athlete population. The GSR includes incoming transfers and students enrolling in the winter or spring quarters who receive athletics aid. Student-athletes who leave an institution academically and athletically eligible to compete are removed from their respective cohorts.

SUCC anointed itself FB NC’s in the 1930’s……..YAWN.
Lastly, in a recent list of the 100 best Univ. campus architecture, SUCC finished @ 215 but was awarded the best University Architecture beany for a Univ. located in an urban ghetto.

Jonnie calling for Nellie back in 1969 as Bob Boyd put the dagger in his cowardly chest at Pauley and ‘Nellie’ went spit-toonville on Mack Calvin the USC player….
Best was when Bartow took over for the ‘peckerwood’ and wouldn’t put on the leash as ‘jonnie’ did for 10 years. Gilbert threatened his life and there was the king of ‘white bread’ ‘jonniekins’ telling his scum supporting clowns at the LA Times “…I have a clear conscience!”
Bobby Knight said it best about that fraud ‘the peckerwood’ “I’m not a cheat!”

Oh no SUCCsters, Commie Lush crones another of rendition 1000 empty bottles of Vodka on the wall.
As much as Commie Lush tries to negate Jonnie Peckerwood’s accomplishments, the facts are thus:
J. Peckerwood: 10 total (7 straight) competitive NCAA NC’s.
The only year Bobby “I’ve forgotten more about BB than you ever know” Knight and Peckerwood might have met in the final four, Knight’s Indiana team choked in the elite 8. Peckerwood and UCLA when undefeated and won the NC.
Commie Lush: A lifelong barking dipsomaniac who wished he could remember where his belt is.
Memo to Sammy: BFD. Peckerwood never had to hire a recruits daddy to bribe a recruit to sign with bozo u. LOL!!!! Does it feel good to be 000000000000 forever? The only banners hanging in Galen Stables is a few we beat UCLA.

I give both schools credit for promoting and bettering southern California. As a SC I would rather beat ND, but I actually get kinda sick to my stomach if my team loses to the baby bears. A loss to Westwood would only be made better if it was followed by the dismissal of Humpty Dumpty.
