Meanwhile, a USC athletic dept. source said Clancy Pendergast made a “courtesy call” to Mark Carrier about the job. Why just a courtesy call? Because Pendergast doesn’t want someone with a big reputation or might question the schemes. He wants a non-threatening yes man.
