USC Recruiting Is Something Else, Part IV

Mater Dei linebacker Mase Funa announced today he would honor his commitment to Oregon. Funa recently visited USC, which made a late push.

The four-star prospect is the highest-rated linebacker to ever commit to Oregon.

So here is the question: Why did USC have to make a late push?

USC got three players from Mater Dei last season and usually seem to get who they really want from there. But not landing Funa is sort of typical for this current recruiting class. Hopefully, someone tells Lynn Swann at Wilshire Country Club.

And here’s another headline that follows up on yesterday’s collection of unexpected recruiting headlines: “Arizona commit to visit USC this weekend.”

  1. Man, these are some cranky posts this week, Scottie. I can only imagine how heavy the melt-down would be if we DIDN’T hire the best available O.C. in the nation….. Oh yeah, same as any other Scottie day 😉

  2. it doesn’t matter who they get ,unless helton is kept away from the practice field…3 yrs of shorts shorts and more shorts have destroyed 4 and 5 star players potential careers …surprised SC hasn’t been sued for false representation of their commitment to the athletes.

    1. The Huskies really develop their D-backs. I read somewhere that their DB coach only recruits/targets 4 DBs per year. The DBs, in his estimation, must be future pros. In other words, if he recruits you, his track record says that you will become a pro. Of course you have to spend 3 or 4 years of Seattle instead of LA!
