Morning Buzz: Elias Ricks Offers Familiar Reason For Skipping USC

Elias Ricks, the top cornerback for the Class of 2020, offered a revealing quote on why he chose LSU to 247 Sports.

“USC was where I thought I would end up but LSU is the best place for me,” Ricks said. “I want to be a 1st round draft pick and I think LSU can best prepare me for that. They send players to the League (NFL) every year and that’s my goal and I think they can get me there.”

This is another way of saying players do not develop at USC. Recruits no longer hide this as a reason to skip USC.

USC diehards are going to say Ricks has a year to change his mind, especially if the Trojans hire a new head coach. Perhaps it will happen. But how many recruits could be lost in the meantime? Does Lynn Swann pay attention to any of this?

Ricks could practially walk into USC and start based on the depth at cornerback. But he is taking a pass and openly saying no to his dream school. Did I mention his mother went to USC? Unbelievable.

Ed Orgeron has to be thanking Swann. Orgeron also beat USC last week on four-star defensive tackle Siaki Ika, who signed a letter with LSU.

  1. It’s now a running joke among recruiters that Trojans development is severely limiting potential of high end recruits.
Also I’ve heard directly from recruiters and some kids on other circuits ( hs b-ball tournaments ) that the handling of the Bolden case really makes kids question of they will get a fair shake of accused of something by the SC admin or student govt. which is a real issue also.

  2. Player development has been an issue since late in PC’s tenure when his staff was devolving…and it’s only gotten worse…everyone living in the immediate area can go watch the Rams and see a prime example in Robert Woods…if you watch JuJu with the Steelers and Sam with the Jets, you see the two most recent glaring examples (or watching RoJo’s rookie season be a complete waste with a bad Tampa Bay team)…but they’re the ones who had such supreme talent that they still at least made it and can overcome it…the kids you really have to feel bad for are the Damian Mama types who were five stars never coached/developed…

      1. Yes, Rented Mule, the JuJu who already has over 2300 yards receiving in less than two full seasons and two 99 yard touchdown plays…and who is in the process of enabling the Steelers to part ways with Antonio Brown, the most prolific receiver in the league over the past decade…that JuJu…and, by the way…yeah, you knew it was coming…even despite playing for HELLton…he won a Rose Bowl at USC…yes, that game played in that stadium you are only allowed to play in before January…you did once win one…back the last time we had a head coach this bad (Ronald Reagan was president, the Berlin Wall was intact, etc, etc)…

  3. Eventually poor coaching leads to poor recruiting even at SC. We failed with 4-5 star recruits now we’ll see what happens with 3 star recruits! This could get real ugly!

  4. COACHING STABILITY:

According to sources, Mrs. Clay Helton was out shopping for a new house in the Hancock park area. When asked if she was worried about clay Helton getting fired and having to move she replied Lynn Swann as promised that hotel will not get fired as long as they made any bowl game next year. also Helton was promised another five-year extension if they finished the top 25 next year.

  5. Developing players is never a requirement for the head football coach at USC , the administration are more concerned about how the coach talks in front of the cameras . Wasn’t that the reason why Pat Haden didn’t give Ed Orgeron the permanent position? 😂😂😂😂

      1. Saying Mahomes is developed is like saying Phil Fulmer developed Peyton Manning…absurd…all of the sunshine pumpers are going to get a big 3-9 rainstorm dumped on them next year…and btw – JT Daniels is no Patrick Mahomes…if anyone has his skillset on the USC roster, it’s Jack Sears…

  6. Good luck in Baton Rouge. USC has sent more players to the NFL than any other school. And where was Darnold picked last year? 3? Was there an LSU player sandwiched somwhere up there in the top 2 I’m missing? Have fun away from the family, etc. Or just come back.

Really yimmy, the only thing that counts in the NFL is a team SB win. Unfortunately, the Steeler’s will miss the playoffs this year because JuJu fumbled (unforced) the F**king ball and NO recovered sealing a NO win.

JuJu’s meanless, personal FB stats aside, JuJu is the Steelers 2018 GOAT of the year. Dem’s the facts yimmster.

BTW yimmy, you failed to answer my question: how many times did Cade McNown lose to SUCCX FB? Fess up yimmy!

    1. Rented Mule, you fact avoidant, powder blue skirt-wearing she bear you…how delightful of you to bring up that “only winning the Super Bowl matters” argument…since, as the objective facts demonstrate means that you agree USC is the greatest college football program in history, since it has produced the most Super Bowl winning team members! You know, not just a random Troy Boy, but the Ronnie Lotts, Marcus Allens, Rod Martins…Lynn Swanns and Mike Garretts! oh my!…all the way back to the key figure in the first Super Bowl, Willie Wood…a game played in USC’s home stadium…you know, that one you ran away from with your tail tucked between your legs…to go play in that one that you’re not allowed to play in after December 31 each year…and yes, Cade McNown did beat Paul Hackett-coached teams (such an accomplishment), but by that argument, Pat Haden and Lynn Swann…and Paul McDonald and Rob Hertel…and on and on…did the same in reverse…since as you always say only winning matters…which means you admit that yeah, you are owned by US(C), even with Hell-ton as our coach, what is that rivalry head-to-head standing at? 49-32-7…think I can rest easy on that bed!…by the way, since you mentioned it, Mark Sanchez’s career stats: 15,000 yards, 86 TDs, 37-36 W-L record regular season and 4-2 in playoffs…Cade McNown’s: 3000 yards, 16 TDs, 3-12 W-L record regular season, 0 playoff appearances…have a nice day, Rented Mule, you sUCLA-la-la Holly Jolly woody Loser!

****My simple question needs a Yimmy simple, numerical answer.

BTW yimmy, Ju Ju is still the Steelers GOAT of the Year.

  8. Yes, those pesky facts…so troublesome…you of course would want simple…being simple…so simply put, JuJu was just named the team’s player of the year by his teammates…I would say wipe the egg off of your face, but since it’s a permanent feature, no need…McNown lost to USC the same number of time a whole bunch – simple enough concept for you? sUCla simple? – of USC players have lost to sUCla-la-la-la…heck, we’ve had coaches who have almost never lost to sUCla-la-la-la, ha-ha-ha…nice try super loser…which brings us back to Super Bowl…which brings us back to the only thing that matters, according to you…and USC being the greatest program of all time…thank you, have a nice day (and enjoy the Clay Days…they won’t last forever…)…

    1. Yimmy:

1)Would Ju Ju rather not have fumbled and not been the Steelers MVP
      vs
      2) he carelessly fumbled away any real chance the Steelers had to make the playoffs but wins the Steeler MVP? Get a grip yimmy.

The Steelers are too kind. Regardless, JuJu the Steelers MVP is still the 2018 Steelers season-ending GOAT!

How many times, did you say, Cade McNown lost to Clown U? Fess up yimmy.

      1. What is the all-time series record? When did you last play in a Rose Bowl, let alone win one (I don’t want anyone to do die of laughter so we won’t extend this to national championships)? Who has the most players on Super Bowl winning teams? And you know this then goes into a discussion of #1 draft picks and Hall of Famers that you don’t want to have…but I digress…and it so galls you that JuJu was voted by his teammates as the team MVP…he was in the playoffs last year…he will be again next year…and there’s still, according to projects, an 18% chance that he will be this year…that’s like 19% more than the chances of SUCla ever playing in the Rose Bowl in January again…and Holy (Bob) Toledo, you and Bust-er McNown…Rented Mule, sometimes you just gotta stop and say to yourself, “Does it possibly stink so bad because my head is that far up my own ass?” Night, night, Booger Bear…
