Elias Ricks, the top cornerback for the Class of 2020, offered a revealing quote on why he chose LSU to 247 Sports.
“USC was where I thought I would end up but LSU is the best place for me,” Ricks said. “I want to be a 1st round draft pick and I think LSU can best prepare me for that. They send players to the League (NFL) every year and that’s my goal and I think they can get me there.”
This is another way of saying players do not develop at USC. Recruits no longer hide this as a reason to skip USC.
USC diehards are going to say Ricks has a year to change his mind, especially if the Trojans hire a new head coach. Perhaps it will happen. But how many recruits could be lost in the meantime? Does Lynn Swann pay attention to any of this?
Ricks could practially walk into USC and start based on the depth at cornerback. But he is taking a pass and openly saying no to his dream school. Did I mention his mother went to USC? Unbelievable.
Ed Orgeron has to be thanking Swann. Orgeron also beat USC last week on four-star defensive tackle Siaki Ika, who signed a letter with LSU.
