I hear Clay Helton has offered Cal strength coach Torre Becton the strength job at USC with Ivan Lewis going to Seattle. Becton previously was at USC.
But whether Becton takes it depends in part on whether he wants to take what could be a one-year job if Helton gets fired.

Don MacLean was noticeably blunt on PMS this past Thursday – when asked which program (bel-air tech or USC) was in worst shape/trouble – he flat out said ‘ucla’ and followed it up with they don’t have a full-time coach and they are in a mess of their own making.
The score did not show how truly big a blowout this was – Enfield put in scrubs with <2 minutes to play that allowed the bruins to score 9 unanswered points.

Asst coaches at Cal like( & respect) Wilcox. First rule of working is to get along with co workers. I’d be really suprised our coach would jump unless there is terrific money involved.

I don’t see CAL ever winning the PAC or even the NO DIV. but there is some talk about 8-4 next year. OR & WA are too strong. Both those teams recruit well & are well coached. If USC & fucla didn’t let OR & WA poach 4* out of socal we would stand a chance.
Becton could work anywhere he wants. Good guy. I hope he stays.
Guys come & go. He has to do what’s best for himself. Berkeley & the ‘East Bay’ is not an easy place to live.

You are correct about Becton looking after his family first. Wilcox and Cal will be in the 9-3 to 8-4 range of wins. However, if Cal produces that for the next couple of years, then Cal can get the 4 to 5 star recruits. I did like Telford at Cal. I thought he did a great job. It will be interesting to see if Cal can build from this
