USC Recruit Watch

USC has a recruit visiting this weekend with offers from Oregon State, BYU, Florida Atlantic, Fresno State,  Toledo, UTEP, Akron, Liberty, Middle Tennessee State, New Mexico and Old Dominion, South Alabama and Youngstown State.

I’m not mentioning the recruit’s name because it’s not relevant.

What is relevant is how desperate USC is recruits right now. Why is Lynn Swann tolerating this?

I’m curious if some of the out-of-touch types who criticized me in the fall for mentioning the bad list of schools recruiting USC prospects still feel this is not an issue?

UPDATED: USC offered safety Kaulana Makaula of Honolulu on Saturday night. His other offers? Hawaii and BYU. That’s right, two offers.

  1. Sad News Department: 2 of the schools you’re laughing at are going to beat us next year, Scott…..
(and it would’ve been 3 except for the fact Oregon Sate has been removed from our schedule)…..

    1. The basketball program (coaches and players) has been through way more shit than Helton will ever know —-and it’s moving forward and taking out some pretty fair schools on the way. It’s time we gave Enfield a little respect.

      1. You’re 100% right, marvienna. Without Sam, Helton has given us very little to be happy about [but it’s still nice to see that something representing the USC brand isn’t folding up and dying —-unlike the presidency, the board, the football team —I could go on —but you get my point]…….

  2. I’ve said it before and say it again. It don’t matter who is interested in a player before he committed. It matters how he performs after he’s signed. OJ Simpson didn’t get a sniff from colleges when he graduated from high school and he made a killing in life.
Charles White was a local kid who wound up at SC but between the lines he was a great player. Todd Marinavich always had a hard name to spell.
The point is if a kid is going to be a star, it doesn’t matter where he came from. Just look at Petros Papadakis was he s Star? He started at Cal and wound up at SC.

    1. So what you are saying is our coach can make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear? Maybe once upon a time, but not this coach. However rumor has us getting a better coach soon. And maybe OJ would like to be the next AD, I hear he has a few debts to clear up.

  3. well, any football player who wants to get better will go elsewhere, but an easy free degree,SC is your place…practices in shorts, just watch game tape, lotta’walk throughs, skipped practices…it’s OK if you lose, the coach doesn’t expect much, even the AD buys into it.

    1. Careful, Tim. If Helton sees this post, he’ll think it’s the perfect sales pitch and have it placed on billboards all over Los Angeles.

    1. I Helton doesn’t get “A” List Coordinators in place before Spring (something that looks less & less likely, Alv), I think you’re right…..

    2. Alv —Upon reflection, I was being naive. Swann won’t see the writing on the wall if Clay patches together another “F Troop” coaching staff. Helton won’t be gone until the first week of the season……
