The Crosstown Rivalry Just Got Interesting . . . Or Not

New UCLA coach Mick Cronin might lose to USC next season but he has to like the fact he is basically going against a nincompoop in Andy Enfield as his crosstown rival.

That’s a dropoff from going against Chris Mack at Xavier for most of his tenure at Cincinnati. Before Mack, Cronin went against Sean Miller at Xavier.

Now he will face a guy who is a perennial underachiever. But does have the nation’s No. 2-ranked recruiting class.

Imagine how good USC would be in football/basketball if it had top-flight coaches.

  • Stat of the day: The Pac-12 does not have an African-American men’s basketball coach after the latest round of hirings/firings.

  1. 6 year contract for Cronin? The well-heeled bruin alums who help fund these contracts need to accept the fact that ucla doesn’t care about football or basketball anymore, despite the fact that the university is very happy to take the gift, which in turn helps fund other programs.

    This will be just another in a long line of buyouts…Dorrell, Mora, Lavin, Alford, Neuheisel…

        team sport, only rigged judges like used in “Dancing with the Stars”. Who
        cares how many coaches pass through the system. Both 1st yr or 2nd yr.. Women Soccer Coaches recently won National Titles Bozo Owns. Stick
        to politics where you have some cred in the matter.

        They hired Chip Kelly in football. He’s a big name. But hire this guy for basketball……..

    3. Your glossing over the fact that Cronin is an excellent coach who will restore order in the PAC 12. As for not caring for football, UCLA went out an got the number one coach available that everyone wanted including USC. Just look what he did last season with just 66 scholarship players and a lot of injured players. Of course beating SC now isn’t that big a deal. Just ask the other six teams that beat them last year.

    I wonder Stevie have you seen the recent video of the free style ncaa exercise contestant who broke both her legs when on her landing her ankles gave way. The video is horrendous. Joe Theismann’s broken leg was nothing compared to the Gymnast accident.

    Naturally bozo u doesn’t field a Women’s G team or Softball team. but bozo u does support a 2 chick, heavy duty, beach blanket bingo, sand wollyball team. I’m informed the team budget is $646.70 a year.

    The #1 team Wollyball team this year is, ta da, UCLA.

      BTW, the last bruin win in a Rose Bowl was in 1986, and the last appearance was in 1999, which was a loss. But I suspect you knew this and ducked it because, well…it is a total embarrassment.

      For the last 20 years, the bruins have been roughly a .500 football team. Except last year, when they were a .250 football team under the chipper.
