USC Saturday Buzz: Sign Of The Times

Is it too soon to say Lynn Swann has hamstrung USC’s recruiting class with a possibly lame-duck coach?

USC did not make the final four choices of five-star tailback Kendall Milton of Clovis, Calif.

LSU, Ohio State, Georgia and Alabama are Milton’s choices.

Who can blame him?

Why would any big-time recruit make USC his destination if they do not know who the coach might be in 2020? Maybe Milton wouldn’t come to USC anyways. But too many recruits right now have a wait-and-see attitude regarding USC.

This was something Swann did not take into account last November because he has never been an athletic director before and was more interested in lecturing the fans about why he kept Helton

Many of the best players in California have had enough of USC and simply turn to the SEC now.

Wait for the “he’s overrated” or “USC is going after a better running back” or “I’m not worried about losing a tailback at the moment” excuses crowd to step in too.

  1. It’ll be interesting to see where Najee Harris ends up this year. As a sophomore he only got 117 carries (3rd) even though he had the highest yds/carry. And going into the season he still projects to be #2 behind Jacobs. I’m wondering if Jacobs parents had some sort of quid pro quo with saban? Is he starting because of seniority? Why would saban start a player who avg’d lees yds/carry over a 5*?? Hmm.

    1. Allow me to begin by saying Milton is overrated and USC will be getting a better tailback soon…..

      1. Don’t know about better. Doesn’t matter. For Harrell’s offense we need fit. If he doesn’t come, and not many expected us in the final 4-5, then we get someone else. Who the heck was Markese Stepp? He seems to have people excited. The bama running back Jacobs was a 3*, and he’s starting over 5* Harris.
My question is why seniority is okay sometimes?

      2. If these Calif 18yr olds believe they are the next second coming & think that the NFL beckons then they can happily play for SC or CAL & make more money. That is if they can go to class but we might make an exception once in awhile.
Saban’s half time speech….’if you lads don’t play harder, I’m going to make you go to class next week’.
Georgia & LSU & Bama in Aug/Sept….100°f, 100% humidity & bugs. & BTW-you’re #5 on the depth chart. Oh, if you get hurt we need our scholarship back.

      3. The truth is we’re fine for this year —and, if things work out, we’ll do fine recruiting-wise next year. The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that we’re well situated to kick ass in 2019. Helton is not a great motivator (he was okay for a bit, then the magic disappeared) —but he’s a smart guy who knows all the Pac 12 teams’ strengths and weaknesses. Helton’s ability to mentor Harrell and manage games combined with Harrell’s ingenuity should get us up to 9 or 10 wins…..

      4. mikey boy, don’t forget the ever-popular bozo excuse:

Milton doesn’t want t to compete!

This time it’s true mikey boy; Milton didn’t want to compete within a mediocre FB program headed for a 4 – 8 or 3 – 9 2019 season.

      5. owns is stupidly projecting ruin success upon us. Everyone knows there’s only one 3-9 coach in LA…and he works in westwierd. How do you continually come up with this crud. Didn’t the ruins just steal a walkon from asu who had 0 stars? Sure they did, of course they had to pay his tuition to get him to go. Had to pay a guy to stay home that was going to the middle of a desert?

        ruin football 3-9 and backsliding…who’s a thunk it…E V E R Y O N E !!!

      6. In September, after UCLA is soiled by Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl in front of 23,000 roaring fans, bruin “skill” players will say they have become “disaffected” and “discouraged”…..

  2. The SEC recruits California so those guys don’t go to school in the PAC. Simple as that.
They will always play local kids over west coast recruits.
No reason for any of these guys to go past The Rockies.

      2. It’s funny how he wants company at that 3 win level, you notice he doesn’t predict more wins for his team. Just fewer for everyone else…sorta like the sanders/aoc economic plan.
