Is USC About To Destroy Another Tradition?

In the history of college football, there are only three schools that never played an FCS opponent: USC, UCLA and Notre Dame.

But look at this comment in the the Athletic from Steve Lopes, USC senior associate athletic director.

“If you start looking at the teams that are available, it’s very limited,” Lopes said. “We’re looking at schools that might not even be FBS, which I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. We may get criticized if and when we do it, but everybody does it. . . . Are you going to die on that sword? You can play very good FCS schools that are better than some of the FBS schools you’ll play, the directional schools you’ll play.”

The key phrase is “I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.”

Nothing is a big deal anymore at USC.

  • It’s not a big deal that your seats got moved and prices increased.
  • It’s not a big deal that Lynn Swann is running the athletic dept. into the ground and going to autograph shows.
  • It’s not a big deal that Clay Helton received a new contract in 2018.
  • It’s not a big deal that Andy Enfield has underachieved the past few seasons.
  • It’s not a big deal that the administration has let USC baseball slide into oblivion.
  • It’s not a big deal that USC is the center piece of the college admissions scandal.
  • It’s not a big deal that fans are becoming more isolated from USC as Swann and Co. run the athletic dept. into the ground.

P.S. — Will it be a big deal if USC decides to place names on the back of jerseys?

  1. Pedo U put the names on the back of the jerseys to celebrate the return of players that were returning in spite of the sanctions from the Sandusky matter…then promptly removed them.
Is scottie just making this up? Like Sears graduating, he throws crap on the wall just to see what sticks…what happened to providing proof that Lynn spent all those days on the golf course??? And only in the world of the unemployed does someone not get time off for personal matters, whether a vacation or doctor or whatever the hell he wants to do.

      1. Mary Magdalene was alone in her tent
With a man she said was heaven-sent
        And Jesus was blunt
Stuck his cock up her cunt
When she screamed “O God”, that’s what she meant.

  2. We already do put names on backs of basketball jerseys, which is why I stopped going to games. Tradition is extremely important at USC, and it is alarming when key personnel in athletics do not get it…

  3. I’ve mentioned it before but Steve Lopes actually has more control of the football program than Lynn Swann. Lopes is the one influenced by Haden and the one in charge of the terrible football vision guiding the program now.

Alot of people blame Swann but Swann’s sins are of someone who came in and did nothing when he could have turned things around.

Steve Lopes was here before Swann, was one of Haden’s closest deputies and, for now, is the real person in charge of how USC is being run. If Swann did nothing when he came onboard, it is Steve Lopes who actively made most of the dumb decisions which Swann then rubber – stamped.

    Fire Steve Lopes!

        LOL!

Lopes replacing Swann would be absolutely priceless…the final nail in the coffin for USC football.

  4. Way back in the olden days USC didn’t allow underclassmen to play varsity football. So the freshmen team played JCs. I watched Mount San Antonio College rock the Freshmen team from USC. At the beginning of the game it was Mt. Sac versus USC but by the end of the game the stadium announcer was; “Mount San Antonio College 35 University of Southern California 13.”
So no big deal? I’m guessing it would become a big deal if the cupcake ordered up has a wasabi jalapeno frosting. It will burn you in the ass.
I know the fans don’t want cupcakes because nothing good comes from being a bully or being beaten by a cupcake.
As for names on Jersey the saying has always been it’s not the name on back the jersey, but the name on the front that is important. USC has NEVER had names on their football jersey it’s not time to start.

  5. Clay Helton has lowered the bar and expectations at USC.

You can thank Max Nikias, Pat Haden and the other idiot Lynn Swann for that.

The USC BoT deserves some of the credit too for sticking with those aforementioned idiots as long as they have.

  6. Really would be a shame if USC ever scheduled an FCS team… I look at it as a badge of honor that USC has never done it. And to fall off a list leaving only ND and UCLA remaining would be extremely disheartening.
