Geoffrey Garrett, the dean of the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, will become the new dean of the Marshall School of Business at USC.
But . . . he will not start until July, 2020. There is already some criticism because no search was done and no one else was interviewed. Garrett previously worked at USC from 2006-09 and his hiring is probably considered a coup in academic circles.
Garrett will take over a messy situation as students, donors and trustees were upset the previous dean, Jim Ellis, was fired.
USC gets the dean from the #1 Business School in the country. Why search anywhere else?

Yep.
It’s like complaining if USC offered Saban then hired Meyer without a “search.”

I like it Pud — but I’m still pissed off at how Jim Ellis was treated — he is a very good man who deserved better.

“USC Hires New Business School Dean”
Great…when is USC going to hire a real head football coach?

The future of business in the U.S.A. is on the West Coast for at least the next twenty years. That’s a coup for SC.

Getting the dean from the no.1 business school in the country is nice.
But the fact that he worked at USC previously only reinforces the fact that USC only hires from “within the family” and is incapable of reaching out to others with no Trojan ties.
