Pat Haden And Clay Helton Have A Lot In Common

With Ed Orgeron 7-0 against AP Top 10 teams not named Alabama, it’s a good time to recall Pat Haden bypassed Orgeron for Steve Sarkisian.

When I pressed Haden that day, he said, “we’ll see. I might be wrong.”

He sure was but where is he to take some accountability for his actions? No one at USC does that.

  • Here is a good example of why Clay Helton needs to be fired.

The day after Wisconsin shut down USC (and Helton) in the 2015 Holiday Bowl, their defensive coordinator Dave Aranda drove back to his hometown of Redlands. During the drive he started hearing from LSU coach Les Miles.

Helton was across the field from Aranda. He could have talked to him the night of the game. You don’t think Aranda wanted to move back home?

But noooooooo . . . Helton had already decided to hire Clancy Pendergast. He wasn’t about to hire someone who might question the way he runs a program. Aranda took the LSU job and the rest is history.

  • Here is a good video of the incident at the end of the first half. If you dislike Brian Kelly, this will probably reinforce your opinion. I’m not sure why he is yelling at USC consultant Dave Campo, unless Campo didn’t hire him with the Dallas Cowboys 20 years ago.

  1. Accountability at SC?

Let’s take a look: Med school again and again, Tyndall, Haden, Swann, Helton, Heinell, firing Dean Jim Ellis from the B-school…

Unfortunately this seems like it is an endless sh*tshow.

    1. What Helton WANTED to say in post game presser: “So let’s say we recover onside kick and tie the game with a field goal. Big fucking deal. So what? We’d just lose in overtime. Like we did last time. Stepp, Slovis, Pittman —and the rest of team for that matter— were all winded. Everybody. I’ve never seen that many winded players in one place.”

  2. Brian Kelly is a punk but he is able to guide a winning program. He told his team before the game that losing was not an option. Would Helton ever say those words?

    1. Saban after 2 touchdown plus win at College Station taking his team to task and reminding them to not take the rat poison from the press…Helton must amuse him to the point that in private he actually laughs…

  3. Looking at the Clancy hire reminds me that Clancy was playing hard to get and SC threw a wad of cash his way. Turns out now Clancy can play hard to get rid of and SC will have to throw him a wad of cash.
Last night was arguably his best game in memory however he still isn’t the best for the money. Hell I’d take half his money and tell my squad go tackle the guy with ball the same way he does. All the schemings in the world boil down to that one thing- don’t let them past you and tackle the guy with the ball.
