I need to prepare you for this comment by Clay Helton. It was made in reference to dealing with injuries and game adjustments.
“This is one of the better coaching jobs I’ve seen by assistant coaches,” Helton said.
Simply incredible. With everything going on the past two seasons and shortcomings on display even yesterday, he’s stubbornly defending his assistant coaches.
Were they making adjustments by not playing Markese Stepp?
- Helton said, “I’ve never had that happen in my 25 years,” referring to Kedon Slovis and Brett Neilon getting hurt on the same play.
- Helton said the drive of the season was the second-half possession where USC scored a field goal with QB Matt Fink and center Justin Dedich filling in.
Blah blah blah. Yada yada yada. Enter Urban Meyer. It’s being served on a fucking platter for USC to make the right hire. Do it.

This is getting so bad that if he caught his wife cheating on him and you asked him how he felt he would tell you “I don’t know, I need to go back and look at the tape.”

It is one of the better jobs by assistant coaches he has seen because his assistant coaches have been lousy.
Offense looked good in the first quarter. That was the optimal timing to leave the game.

67 -Here’s Helton’s ACTUAL comment on Slovis and Neilon going down on same play: “Never have I seen anything like it in 25 years of coaching — sure, our players run into and injure each other in pregame cuz no one’s orchestrating the drills —but IN game, that’s the first time!”

Does anybody at these calls or pressers or whatever they are called, take notes. It sounds like there’s a case for Helton’s insanity. He’s repeating himself in a nonsensical way. If I were included in this discussion, I’d be shouting, ” shut up, just shut up! You are insane to be patting yourself on the back. Just one dropped pass from another epic implosion. You didn’t win they lost-so shut up with your B.S. ”
Fortunately I am not invited.

Helton is what he is. Delusional

He has entered uncharted territory…Matt Doherty recruited the players that Roy Williams won his first national championship at UNC with…Gary Gibbs didn’t say patently false and ludicrous things in the years following Switzer at OU…Ray Handley was simply revealed for having reached his Peter Principle level following Parcells with the Giants…Jimmy Carter all but begged America’s foregiveness in his maiaise speech…
Helton. Just. Doesn’t. Get. It.

Yes, James. But Clay only gets to give this performance two more times before the show is cancelled…..

Michael, does he play golf? If so, look for him buying the place next to Swann off the third fairway.

Even though scott tries to place this quote in context he actually takes it even more out of context. The quote was about how the assistant coaches have helped to prep the backups so that they have been ready as needed with all our injuries.
I’m not saying USC makes quality in-game adjustments – they don’t- but Scott simply did not report this accurately. Shoddy journalism.
