Mike Bohn Talks About ASU Game

One thing I like about new athletic director Mike Bohn is how willing he seems to be to do media.

Bohn spoke on the “Trojans Live” show tonight. Some highlights:

On the USC-Arizona State game: “(USC) had a lot of adversity. (We have) athletic guys that are out there battling. I was watching (the game on TV) as much as I could.

“They had a lot of adversity, a lot of things that did not go there way. Penalties and turnovers. But they battled.”

On what the most important aspects he looks for in a coach: “Leadership, energy, integrity, passion.”

On his philosophy: “We want to win and it’s about victory. It’s not just about a sense of fighting.”

On USC’s role within the Pac-12: “The bottom line for USC is we need to take care of USC.

“Attendance, (we need) people watching (our games). USC’s got to be the anchor we know USC should be. (It includes) recruiting, coming to ball games. Intensity of interest.”

Bohn also said he met with Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott today.

Meanwhile, Clay Helton said tailback Kenan Christon will not redshirt and play the next two games.

Your inflection of skepticism rings a discordant note as to what we dissidents presume will be his decision on Helton. Bones, now in action, has the mannerisms of a polished Politician. I like your “We Shall See” quite appropriate.

    Great response

“Attendance, (we need) people watching (our games). USC’s got to be the anchor we know USC should be. (It includes) recruiting, coming to ball games. Intensity of interest.”

    Even better response.

Parsing this, we see that recruiting is around 80, lowest attendance in about 20 years, and Helton is roughly a .500 coach in the Pac-12.

    Interpretation – Helton is gone.

      1. Michael, it will be something like “Clay has worked his tail off, taking over in mid-season several years ago and then guiding us to a thrilling Rose Bowl victory the next year. But we all agree that USC should be competing for national championships regularly, which leads us to thank Clay for his years of faithful service and wish him the best in his future career.”

  3. everyone knows he was brought in to make changes. He is now playing political game that needs to be played, it looks a little awkward to fire a coach one week into tenure. But soon enough the hammer will drop. He is clearly willing to do so or wouldn’t have taken the job in the first place.

Also, what a difference between he and swann.

    1. Chris —if Bohn is actually think about hiring either of the 2 people factor13 said he’s been told to consider (which I should say, I doubt), he’d make Swann look like Bertrand Russell……

  4. The most interesting thing in this post is that Helton said he was burning the Red Shirt year for Christon. It’s like he shoving a small chip containing the end of Helton’s career into the freshman running back’s mouth saying, “Help me Obi Wan Christon, you’re my only hope.”
Christon, with a few blocks, could be Helton’s lucky Darnold. Helton has a scapegoat in Baxter, and a backup in Prendergast all he needs is a lucky Darnold and he’s got a cause to be retained. Scary stuff??

      1. Sorry watching TV and typing. With a few blocks Christon might be able to break a couple of long, fun to watch, exciting runs. This would make it look as if Helton discovered this gem of a player lying around in the stockpiles.(instead of holding him back for future use.)

Guess what Johnny Cheetin Wooden, I did hookers before I die Suanders, Harrick, and Tommy Prothro all have in common? They either cheated like hell or worked for the largest cheating factory in the world, Thug U aka ruinville. Shove it Moron.

BTW, you better start heading for the Skid Row Mission for Thanksgiving. It is a long walk from Cerritos to downtown L.A.

Your Chipster, if the stars align, could be the real spoiler in the South discussion. I have no idea what the odds of that happening are….but it’s a possibility.

      1. Unfortunately those odds are pretty long. I saw where sucla had a 10% chance of beating Utah, and then another “expert” said it was more like 1 to 2%.

But ‘them’s’ not lottery odds, so I still have a bit of hope.
