Report: Clay Helton To Be Retained

Clay Helton is going to be retained as USC coach, according to FootballScoop.com.

Now I’ve heard different, obviously, so we will see.

But if this is true, I hope everyone is prepared to contact Mike Bohn and Carol Folt and let them know what you think. I know USC contacted Bob Stoops. I’ve heard this from people in Dallas, where Stoops is the coach and general manager of the Dallas Renegades.

If Helton was to be retained, does that mean negotiations stalled?

Maybe. But USC should be better than that. What a storm would be unleashed tomorrow if Helton is retained.

  1. It would be so SC to screw themselves. That said I do know a guy who is friends with a big time donor who keeps telling my friend he has been told repeatedly Helton is gone so who the heck knows. Of course many donors were lied to last year that he was going to be canned only for the idiot named Swann to bring the fool back. If they bring him back again it will be a nightmare for Folt and Bohn.

    1. Thank you God! All of your prayers have been answered!! God fearing Clay Helton retained and godless Urban Meyer discarded!!

      1. I don’t think we have enough info to say Helton is God fearing and Meyer is Godless. We just don’t have enough info on their private lives to say that.

      2. JimB, I know! I go to same church as Clay Helton plus I am in the deacon board with his wife. They are God honoring people who deserve to have the respect of the fanbase. With all the crap people are dishing out at him, have you ever heard Clay Helton lash out? He gets called dumb, idiot and all sorts of unconscionable names yet he keeps his head down and does his job! That kind of character and hard work deserves your respect and admiration!

Urban Meyer has quit at two schools his been at! He allows his assistant to beat his wife! Urban Meyer is all about “me, me, me” Helton says God>I.

      3. Clay Helton has accumulated 11 losses in two years…..who should survive that? Maybe, somewhere else….not here….I’ve seen him treat Jack Sears horribly…. no one here concerned about your board, or her board, or your church bias, who would have people suffer, just to placate your blind eye…you tell them to cut a deal, and go find another life…

      4. Deserve? You’ve got to earn your respect as USC head football coach. Many of us have been watching USC for 50 + years, have proper perspective, Many have matriculated through, as well….Clay Helton? Ugh! Lack of job performance! You can hold his hand, we just want the team back.

    1. Ryan Abraham said that one poll was taken that anyone could vote in as to whether they should bring back Helton or not. The ones who wanted to get rid of him won 82-18%. But he said that most of the 18% who wanted to bring him back came from UCLA, Stanford and other Pac-12 school fans. When all of your enemies are voting to retain your coach, that’s a pretty good reason to find a new coach.

      1. But not one person in the 82% column wrote a check to buyout Helton’s contract – Oh well.

The bozo rivalry victory nailed Helton’s booty to another year or two as bozo HFBC.

That being said, I can’t wait for the Alabama game.

  2. Max Nikias said he was going to De-Emphasize Trojan football. That piece of shit corrupt motherfucker is still calling the shots at USC.

And those two fucking assholes Tim Tessalone and Steve Lopes are just as corrupt!

  3. If this is true, I probably won’t be planning my weekends around the games next season. What a shame. But with all the back and forth, it’s unfortunately just a waiting game. You’re up, USC…

  4. IF Clay is retained (and as of tonight it IS still a great big “if—just like everything else about our football program) I think we should all go very easy on Folt and Bohn. They asked Clay when the season was over so they could see if anyone was interested in his job and he told them the season wouldn’t end until he’d won the Pac 12 Championship. No wonder they were caught flatfooted when it turned out the season ended after the UCLA game. A lot of people might feel a little let down about the idea of Clay once again leading the team against Saban and Alabama — but those people don’t understand how USC works.

    1. P.S.
Upon hearing that the season was actually over after Utah beat Colorado and that Clay wouldn’t be coaching in the Pac 12 Championship game, Folt and Bohn issued a joint statement saying, “he tricked us.”

  5. Bizarre – if you are going to fire a guy, then fire him. You don’t keep him on because $5 million or whatever separates you and Bob Stoops. There is plenty of coaching talent out there that would love to coach Slovis, Stepp, Christon, London, St. Brown, Drake Jackson, … and that would have a much more disciplined team and that would have the best players on the field.

  6. So SW, what you’re asking us to believe is Folt and Bohn have decided to let USC Football–and by extension USC Athletics–continue to hemorrhage because they got the “cold shoulder” from a couple of good HC candidates? It’s just easier to watch the football program bleed to death, while embarrassing donors, alumni, friends, fans, and the community rather than save the program from this slow debilitating death? So, both Folt and Bohn changed their minds midstream?

I think you and your so-called contacts–if they really do exist–are full of shit, You really need to find something constructive to keep yourself busy with. You’ve lost all credibility here. Even if CH is retained, I seriously doubt the decision-making process was even remotely like the process you’ve asked us to believe.

      1. Coached a team beset by injuries to defeat eventual Pac 12 champ Utah and potential CFP.
Lost a close game to Notre Dame in South Bend. Handily beat rival UCLA. Quarterback setting passing records. Did not lose to Pac 12 South team.

Needs to get a new defensive coordinator and special teams coach. Only Urban Meyer and Bob Stoops could deliver a National Championship so the pickings were slim.

  7. The Board of Bustees at USC has turned a great job of coaching USC football into a job that nobody will touch. The best thing that you can do is stop supporting this team unless they put a championship team on the field. They won’t change until it hits them in the pocketbook.

    1. Correct. As economists phrase it, “vote with you feet” (ie your purchasing power)…don’t spend another penny on these ****tards. If everyone does that, the message will eventually get there (since apparently watching non-stop failure under Helton hasn’t been enough).. If they do this, don’t waste another penny or breath on this disaster. Pick another team. Follow another sport. Get a new hobby.

      1. Owns:
As you will recall from earlier in the year, I’m on the record as not being a UCLA hater. USC has always been my team, but I like the rest of the PAC second (except Oregon)…and hate Notre Dame and the SEC…USC has definitely reached a fork in the road…either they will replace the Titanic with a seaworthy vessel, or they will max the engines out in a downward plunge…

  8. I hope the fallout is epic, and the fans stop supporting USC football, because the administration has been taking them for granted for close to a decade. Mike Bohn was clearly hired to be a puppet, because no qualified athletic director would retain a coach like Clay Helton. So if Bob Stoops was the only target, then the hiring of Bohn was a mistake too

  9. Well……I’ve never believed this before…..its hard …..but that is how life is sometimes……The USC I knew is gone……..its a school I don’t recognize.
    Good luck to them.

  10. Im calling my shot now Clay gets fired tomorrow. Um is hired on Friday as the new head football coach. Bohn wouldn’t risk his job for a used car salesman posing as the USC football coach.

  11. If this is true, then SC has once again embarrassed themselves. Terrible.

The Alabama beat down is going to be unbelievably bad. Then what does Bohn do? Any donors and fans left after today will then also jump ship.

I don’t see how SC football recovers from this news. The talent will stop coming for years to come.

The party is over. RIP USC football.

  12. The ire directed at Folt and Bohn is misplaced. If Clay remains, it is RIck Caruso who made the decision. Folt was not brought in to be a leader, she was brought in to be a puppet for a BOT that is increasingly dominated by Caruso.

This sends a really bad message to the students and to the world in general. The guy at the top is not responsible for results, he blames the people below him and gets to keep his job. No accountability at the top, whatsoever. But that is just the world we live in.
