USC has accepted a bid to play Iowa in the Holiday Bowl. It will be USC’s third Holiday Bowl in the past six years.
USC did not deserve to go to the Alamo Bowl but how many times should it be playing in the Holiday Bowl? Maybe this was a good year to decline a bowl bid.
A decrepit stadium on a cold December night in San Diego. Hard pass.
USC held firm at No. 22 in the College Football Rankings.
This is great per Mike Bohn a few days ago: “That is indicative of the wonderful job Clay Helton did this year and that’s why we’re excited that he’s continuing to lead our program.”
Damn! I wanted Michigan. But we’ll be pulling for our Trojans the way any real Trojan does!!

Second on hoping for Michigan – would have at least seemed like the Rose Bowl. And it would have been sweet to watch Slovis, Pittman, London, and St. Brown go to town against the Michigan secondary.
But at #22, with 4 losses, the holiday bowl is what one gets.

Check out Iowa, 67 —nobody blew them out —all close losses. I think they’ll be tougher than Michigan….and we’ll get less credit for beating them…

I was hoping USC played Michigan, because the Trojans administration would’ve got embarrassed at the outcome. But I’m almost sure Clay Helton will beat an average Iowa team

I’m not so sure, Fan Boy.
My best friend/neighbor is a Solid Hawkeye alum, so I’ve watched a lot of Hawkeye FB over the past 4 yrs. They have a VERY DISCIPLINED, stout, ball-hawking defense, and a physically strong run game–but without a ton of game breakers. Their QB, Nate Stanley, is experienced and will probably make the roster of an NFL team. Every TE who graduates their program makes an NFL roster, so expect the TE to make some big catches (kinda’ like UCLA only way better). While he is a tad older, I have wondered (to myself) if Kirk Ferentz would have been a good hire for USC–disciplined, humble, hard-working, defense oriented with excellent OLine play…..

That’s funny. Trust me San Diego never gets cold compared to almost anywhere else in the country Even with December wet ocean air it’s still 50 degrees at the coldest. Throw on a coat and you’re OK. If the weather and not the state of our team keeps you away from the game, you are soft.

We’re flying to SD from Colorado to support our student-athletes.
Gonna’ be over a grand just in air and accommodations.
No reason to punish these young men for the transgressions of the adult leadership at USC. As a 50 yr Trojan fan and a member of the Family for 40 years, I understand everyone’s anger. Direct it at the leadership.
It is entirely possible to support the FB players while also showing leadership your dissatisfaction.
For those of you joining me, I’ll buy you a taco and beer at La Puerta for lunch 12/27.

Bohn keeps on “selling” to mask his indecisive leadership and lack of vision. There’s no way out of this one, Mikey. You, and you alone, own this one.

Bohn-head was a failure at CO so is it any surprise?

I don’t know why, gt —-but I was hoping for more…
[It would be SUCH a pleasant surprise if BOHN stuck Helton with an up and coming superstar as defensive coordinator —somebody who recruits KNEW would be taking over at the first misstep]…

For me, MG, the clock starts for Bohn tomorrow.
If “he” (surrogate for HC CH) cannot hire the DC USC requires to become competitive in the PAC 12 (let alone, get into the top 10 nationally), then indeed I’ll join the chorus. If indeed OC GH departs, I suspect the 2020 season is lost, and Bohn will have the ammo he needs by Mid October 2020 to effect the change which all here are demanding.
Hiring UM is a “checkers” move. Doesn’t take much skill or forethought.
Looking NOW for your future head coach for 2021 is a “Chess” move.
Fickell? not sure. Rhule? not sure. If UM is still available in mid October 2020?????

It will say such bad things if Bohn can’t even lure Harrell back. It’s one thing to screw up the coaching search —by starting late, not having University assurances that you can meet top coach $$ demands, etc —but it’s something else if you can’t even hang on to the people you have (coaches and recruits). I hope Helton backers dwell on exactly what it says that NO top names in the coaching business want to stay on staff for more than a year. [My guess: They get frustrated having Helton second guessing them without knowing what the hell he’s doing]. All this could be resolved by forcing Helton to go with Bohn’s (hopefully) smart choices for coordinators. Helton has to –for the first time in his USC head coaching career —know that there are guys in place to take over if he can’t get the most out of his players —starting with the opener against Alabama.

Posted this months ago but I thought I’d put it back for those who might need it. This is an automatically updated football schedule that shows (cst) times and channels for ncaa football including playoffs (all divisions) and bowls.

Thanks, Pudly. I see that Vegas has listed USC as a 13 point favorite over Iowa. Oh, no….sorry….I was looking at the column for Ed Orgeron’s team. LSU has opened at 13 over Oklahoma. And Clemson is FAVORED over Ohio State.

That comment by Bohn er can lead to only one thing,
a down hill run. He’s planted himself squarely in the camp of mediocrity.

MOST EVERYONE JUST KEEPS ON CRITIZINGBOHNERANDFOLT NOW THAT HE’LL TON IS BACK AT COACH BECAUSE THEY WOULDN’T PAY $12 TO $20 MILLION FOR HE’LL TON BUYOUT…SINCE HE’LL TON IS STILL COACHING USC FANS AND ALUMNI AND DONORS NEED TO HAVE HE’LL TON FIRE PENDERGRASS BAXTERANDDREVNO and Go PAY for a TOP Offense Line COACH and Defensive coordinator plus special Teams coach TIME ToTake Care of the PROBLEM because USC was never going to PAY HE’LL TON s BUYOUT

Yes —that would be the recipe! And one of the new assistants has to be SO good that he can step in mid season and take over if things aren’t going well….

Like the all caps, TCTP.
I’d keep Drevno, unless a proven top 5 O line coach wants to coach up our O line. (with the understanding that that awesome O line coach has aspirations to be a “head coach” of a storied program. It’s working in Oregon.
I think getting the splashy DC hire is the most pressing and most impactful move USC can make at this time. Who is your choice for DC?
A new ST coach is a given. A graduate assistant could do a fine job–even as I admit that ST is just as important as O&D.

Shut the Fuck up Scott. It’s cool we Don’t have to go to Texas to support our team we just head down south. Also to all of the people saying they are fed up with USC football and Helton. Fuck off we support the football program period. We don’t cheer for a loss to get rid of a coach.
Fight on

Yeah, it’s amusing how many losers who call themselves USC fans are saying they’re rooting for a loss. They’re not Trojans, they’re front runners.

If some fans are ok and good with 5-7, 6-6, 7-5, 8-4 records and ok with getting their asses handed to them twice per year when USC faces well coached football teams then go ahead and support this circus. Bohn and Folt basically made a decision that mediocrity is acceptable by retaining Helton. Most SC supporters are sick and tired of seeing a guy that should probably be coaching at a junior college instead of leading the only blue blood program out west. The only people that were happy with Helton coming back is all of our opponents as well as the Clemson, Ohio St fans because they know that recruiting season is wide open in California as long as Gomer is the coach.

If we look bad and lose to Wisconsin OOOOOPS that was the last game Helton coached our team in the Holiday Bowl, but if we lose in “HELTON & PENDERGAST FASHION” then celebrate it with a Top45 Recruiting Class and go get back handed by Nick Saban and Alabama in Jerry’s World in front of ALL-OF-COLLEGE-FOOTBALL does Helton lose his job???
