Raesjon Davis, a four-star linebacker from Mater Dei and Class of 2021 prospect, committed to LSU today. He is currently rated the No. 3-ranked outside linebacker in the nation per Rivals.
So one more top Southern California prospect is leaving.
Why would he go to USC?
Aside from the fact USC is light years from LSU, just look at it from a high school junior’s perspective.
The USC plan is “Give Clay Helton another year and we’ll see.” So there is no way a recruit even knows who he will be playing for at USC. Coach Bohn can offer no assurances especially when Carol Folt might decide anything at any given moment.
No, LSU is a much better option if you can get it.
Yes, LSU is indeed a better option now than USC. Particularly for a highly ranked defensive player, as USC is without a DC.
Happy New Year, Scottie.

And has been for how long? Oh, right redundant to length of Helton’s tenure…
And to think USC would invade the bayou to pluck a McKnight or Booty…we just need the British band from Yorktown to play “The World Turned Upside Down”…

Themistocles, good call on Trojan recruiting back in the day in the Bayou. It really seems like a long time ago.
According to Rivals, Davis showed literally no interest in any Pac-12 school.

67 –Bohn just put out a statement: “I’m hearing from fans that they’re angry USC fired key assistants from the football staff without replacing them. These “critics” are people who don’t understand the way USC hiring works. Take myself, for example. First USC tried to lure top people for the job of A. D. by offering non competitive salary packages. Next, they got turned down. And finally — voila!— I came aboard —ready to do whatever I’m told to protect the rotting status quo. Well, we’re right in the middle of that process right now…”

’67: let’s hope for a flip in July 2020.
Just need a great DC hire.
JDR and Rivera signed with Washington today.
I like the younger DC’s on the market, and still hope Kris Richards give us a nod.
BTW, is my guy Jim Leonhard at UWisky calling a great Rose Bowl game vs the Dux?

Wisconsin’s program consistently takes a 50th ranked recruiting class (they lose out to Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State in their conference, as well as ‘Bama, Oklahoma, etc.) and delivers a disciplined, focused team that plays within their limitations, and is among the best teams in the country. They can block and tackle.
Just imagine what a really good coaching staff could do with SC’s current talent.

They were built by Alvarez in the image of Iowa – we just saw that first hand…you are so right about this…everything that Helton has failed to do…

Yeah, ’67, Chryst is the real deal.
Not his fault his players fumbled away a sure victory tonight.
I believe that Chryst is a legacy at UWisky and would never consider a change to a pressure cooker like USC.
I left the West Coast some time ago and spend much time with Midwest kinda people. Football is their life in the Big 10/B1G/Big 14. I saw this in San Diego last week with the Iowa folks. I suspect that most of the B1G coaches would have no interest in coaching in the fickle, lackluster Pac 12 where fans prefer a day at the beach to a day of camaraderie tailgating with real CFB fans. On a work day, tens of thousands of Iowans descended on San Diego to cheer their team on to victory in THE HOLIDAY BOWL. They were psyched for a 10 win season.
I’ll pray tonight that the money people at USC offer Jim Leonhard a mega-contract to come to USC as our “DC/HC in waiting.”
Wisky totally dominated the Dux today. Painful loss.

As the announcers during the Holiday Bowl continuously discussed, and properly so, all of this from from the Hayden Frye tree – when he built Iowa from nothing, there really was no precedent…but the staff he assembled went on to accomplish many miracles (number one being Bill Snyder at Kansas State, number one A being Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin, and impressive in its own way, Stoops ate Oklahoma, this latter the closest to the situation currently at USC)…all of it built on the same fundamental principles, and in the case of Snyder and Alvarez, just like with their mentor, achieved without the benefit of top recruits…

Hard to believe how selfish Helton is.
All of this drama and chaos so he can continue to pretend to be a P5 coach.

Let’s face it, Helton is here for another year at least, depending which way the administrative winds blow. He is a known kiss ass and is very good at it. Both Bohn-er and Folt bought in to his bull shit and there is no telling how much longer he can get away with it. I think the only thing that will get him out of here is drastically falling revenue. The school has to pay for the $359 million renovation of the coliseum and falling attendance brought about by a shitty football team is sure to do it.

Not hoppin’ on the Bus, 62.
I don’t think HC CH is retained with another 8-4 season in 2020.
In all probability, HC CH starts out 3-3 in 2020. Under such a start, Bohn will have the freedom to make a change.
I reserve the right to modify my post if WE get that smashmouth DC signed “tomorrow.” Harrell proved that a good offensive mind could overcome HC CH inadequacies. We are all counting on the same for the other side of the ball.

Bourbon, it would be great if someone came in and changed the crappy culture that Helton and fostered at USC.
Can’t see any way that someone that has that type of influence would even consider coming to USC. Love to see a smash mouth guy at DC, just don’t see Bohn hiring someone that would upstage or threaten Gomer in any way. Harrell is about as much of a threat that Gomer can handle. What’s wrong at USC is much more than scheme, it’s a fundamental breakdown of the entire program. As long as Gomer is in place, sadly nothing significant or positive will happen.

And “access” to innumerable multi-millionaires and celebs.
USC has a ton of assets. Time to leverage them.

Sorry, that “bevy of beautiful So Cal women” isnt what it used to be. Tats, piercings, purple hair, and worst of all the number that are hauling around an extra 20 or 30 lbs. Yuk.

Wow the Rose Bowl sure looks great with a full house. Too bad the school that rents it in the fall for six games can’t draw its own students/alumni to come and watch after three losing seasons in a row. LMAO!

Ever notice how when the bruins play in the Rose Bowl, the sky looks dingy and dark? But when teams from out of state play there, the sky is as “rosy fingered” as Homer described it in the Iliad?

The fact that Davis chose an elite SEC powerhouse should be no shock to anybody. I don’t blame the kid or any other elite blue chip West Coast recruit to leave for other power house programs. Why would anybody want their kid to play for Gomer right now. Hire Urban Myer and the perception and culture changes and these kids will go to USC again. And besides USC is busy offering only 2 and 3 star linebackers right now because even Gomer knows that all these 4 and 5 star kids think he is a joke of a coach. No shock here. And worse yet is that Folt and his puppet Bohn could care less.

In my entire adult life I’ve never seen an Athletic Department in the kind of mess USC’s confronts. Their Football Team is considered a BIG joke by the entire country. Recruits routinely mock USC offers on national television. Their team loses the big ones on a regular basis. The ANSWER to all their problems (Urban Meyer) is available AND interested (for the right amount of $). And…..USC looks the other way….so it can feel “integrified” (as Davy Crockett would put it).
Let me repeat —just for emphasis — THE ANSWER to ALL USC’s problems is standing right on their doorstep….. and what does USC do?

I know one of the “mental giants” who’s helping chart the new course for USC. Let’s just say this person never was real high on the idea of football or sports …or masculinity, in general…..
Brando in “Missouri Breaks”: “I’ve known a lot of mental giants such as yourself and there’s one thing about all of you that interests me.”
Prissy Banker: “Oh, what’s that?”
Brando: “Why you can’t seem to hold onto your women folk…”

It very likely USC didn’t even visit his home. LSU came out and recruited the kid, and offered a spot in next year’s class. USC thinks USC recruits itself. They don’t want to be bothered with actual recruiting trips to local high schools.

Just finished watching the Rose Bowl. 2 well coached teams that play disciplined football. It’s no wonder Southern California blue chip players decide to play for Oregon instead of USC. It’s very sad what Clay Helton has done to this program. I just wonder if those in power will ever fire Helton and hire a successful seasoned coach who will lead us back to national prominence. It’s very embarrassing to see what Helton has turned this football program into to.
