Morning Buzz: Decision-Making Not As Complicated As USC Acts

Did you notice Washington State’s Pat Chun, who is considered a real athletic director, took only five days after Mike Leach resigned to hire his replacement, Nick Rolovich.

It took USC 11 days after the UCLA to just to announce Clay Helton would return in 2020.

I bet if USC hired Chun in early November, I would not hear excuses that he needed more time on the job to properly evaluate Helton.

If you are a proponent of this theory, you might regret it if the nightmare scenario occurs and Helton wins just enough games to keep his job for 2021. And a part of me thinks that is exactly what Carol Folt and Co. wants. Well, I know Folt wants. I just am not 100 percent if “Co.” wants it too.

    1. Folt gets paid the big bucks to endure the wrath of her opponents. This is nothing compared to the uproar she caused at UNC. That’s why USC hired her as they transition into becoming The Stanford of the West.

      1. Stanford actually has successful minor sports, USC, not so much these days. I’d say they are trying to make USC the Harvard of the West since Stanford is already on the West coast.

      3. Many of us keep waiting for SC to return to being a professionally-run organization, hiring the best people they can, and firing underperformers.

        That is now a fantasy. Not one major recent decision is consistent with that vision.

    2. She looks at Gomer as a meek, easy to control dullard. With these forced firings of his buddies and the AD most likely hiring his DC because Gomer is to stupid to know he was getting played by Barry, you can see just how stupid and weak Gomer really is, he’s taking all of this without uttering a word, and he’ll continue to take it until his contract runs out.

  3. Here’s WSU’s approach to hiring a new coach.
    ” Let’s find a guy who can run an offense to fit the kind of players we can recruit here, some guy who has turned a program around and looks at WSU as a step up. ”

    USC’s approach
    ” Does this coach have any issues in his background that don’t fit with our PC environment ? Is he cultured ? Can we control him ? Does he come cheap ? Does he have any USC connections. “

  4. Folt comes in a bad situation with a coach who has a winning record and who is a players coach. Let’s see what happens this year. Toward the end of the season, in mass, write nFolt s detailed season in review with what should have been done and see what she does.

      1. We’ll see what Folt thinks when the Coli starts attracting those sub 40K attendee’s numbers. The TAF and C&G number$ become far below expectations.

    1. What kind of milk toast comment is this? Did you watch the past 2 seasons and notice how horribly underprepared the team was when they played any top 50 opponent?

      And what about the 2 years before that, when he still had players who had real practices under drunk sark, and multiple first round talents who either never got developed or saw their draft stock plummet?

      USC fans have been pissed, they have been writing folt since the end of the season, she case into a complicated job where replacing the head football coach was one of the few no-brainer moves she needed to make, instead she and Bohner decided to make the fans and players waste at least another year waiting for them to clean up the rest of the messes before getting around to the easy stuff.

  6. WSU is typical of schools that employ “AIR RAID”. This is an offense for schools that can’t recruit large agile linemen… Something that SC has been having a problem with since Kiffin was HC. Apparently SC has become WSU, TexasTech, etc…. It’s so embarrassing being a Trojan alum… I am looking forward to the last days of Dolt and Boner even more than that silly man impersonating a coach. I remember when SC athletics wanted to be the best instead of the middle to bottom of the Pac12.
