A source in the McKay Center tells me USC is going to hire former linebacker Chris Claiborne as a quality control analyst.
I’m not sure what the duties include but Claiborne is a savvy hire: He knows all the good players in Southern California and is an excellent recruiter. Just as important, he is a respected former USC player who knows the tradition.
This is huge. Job title sounds below what Chris should be doing, so hopefully he is being compensated at the level that he merits.
Great news – was this a Bohn hire also?

67,
With the exception of Helton himself, this is a pretty great staff.

Michael, yes, and at least a couple of GREAT recruiters.
I still really worry about the O-line coaching, however. Hope I am wrong about that by the time fall rolls around.

Unfortunately, we both know you’re not wrong. I’ve heard that Drevno was Helton’s ‘line in the sand’ guy —the one position coach he refused to let go. If this is true, Helton has seriously jeopardized USC’s chances of bouncing back in 2020…..

I’m so disappointed that an incredible genius (Sorry- attorney) gets drunk on the cardinal & gold kool-aid. There went your incredible slugging percentage. “ Pretty Great Staff” – not even close ( Drevno/ Jinxs/ Baker/ Colbert- pretenders! How can you be so excited for Orlando who has know proven track record of any substance? I’m hoping that you will remember these comments for the next year and stick it to me in the future. I have been correct these past two years. I’m just upset that starting in April I will be paying my mortgage out of my own pocket as the last 3 months thanks to the university of Iowa my mortgage was paid for! Lastly, I believe that Tom Herman deserves the benefit of the doubt over buffoon Clay & the bohner who hired Embree at Colorado- in summation Michael I truly believe that you are putting the “ cart before the horse “

Michael Guarino – Drevno is Helton’s “line in the sand guy”?? Helton has no juice to draw a line in the sand. Either make a new O-line coach, or one will be made for you, & you will be fired for cause. Or you can resign with no buyout!

I agree Mike, but it’s really been good and bad when you factor in how they may save Heltons job and he’ll get the credit while we get stuck with Clay.

What the….Did Scooter just post a positive comment??? Can’t be!

Yes, he did – Scottie used the adjectives “excellent”, “savvy”, and “respected”. All in the same post.
That is about as good as it will ever get.

Good call, 67. I’ve been here a long time and I can’t recall Scott ever using even 2 of those words in the same paragraph before…..

Michael, yes, who knows what got into Scottie to deliver such a glowing move by USC? Is Scottie already at the pub?

Too little, too late for Justin Flowe. Thanks for nothing, Jackass Coach.

Scooter,
It can be a good hire, but the question is, what will he do, how will it affect SC football, can he improve SC football, will he bring back tradition, and what are his plans. Go find out and report back to us.

It is very odd that his title is “Quality Control Analyst”, which is typically a very young person, roughly grad assistant level. Hopefully Chris makes a big impact and they turn him loose on recruiting.

Check on some of bama’s analysts, not necessarily young guys…

The “Quality Control Analyst” thing must be more about bookkeeping than anything else….

Yes, the bookkeeping explanation sounds good – they have filled out the coaching slots that would be appropriate fits for him, so perhaps he will operate more in an advisory roll, overseeing defense issues.

I’ve heard that it is just another fancy word for “Intern.” An entry way into the coaching profession above high school.
I’ll bet if you look at the bios of all of the assistants that “quality control analyst” is on all of their resumes.

He recruited well at Calabasas high—should be no problem at SC—maybe they can hire someone from Mater Dei to do the same thing?

I think it will be a great hire if it happens. I’ll believe it when I see it. What do they have to lose. The guy is a great recruiter and he knows the SoCal high school scene as well as anybody. He relates well with young people. I don’t know what they are waiting for.

quality control analyst…hmmm…if true, helltons tenure is over.

I hate to break the news to you but Scott has been right about SC ever since Pete Carroll fired Norm Chow the day after the offense put 55 on Oklahoma and replaced him with his two basketball buddies Kiffen and The Drunk.

I hope Little Scotty’s head didn’t explode writing something positive about USC without even one single snarky comment. See little man, I knew you could do it. 🙂

EXCELLENT HIRE! Graham Harrell is still the OC though. And Graham doesn’t like the one thing that could save his shitty scheme, i.e. a very mobile, durable QB. Maybe this year humbled him into making some scheme changes toward more blocking and running. If not, Bama will explain the concept.
