I used to joke to certain groups of USC fans that they would rather finish No. 1 in the recruiting rankings than win a national title.
Based on yesterday, I could probably say it’s more important to finish No. 1 in hype videos.
There’s nothing wrong with hiring talented people.
But here’s the difference between today and any time USC was great: Now things get celebrated for absolutely no reason. Did USC make the College Football Playoff on Wednesday? Did it win a national title? Did it do anything?
Did it hire Hudson Houck? He’s probably the best offensive line coach in USC history (10 All-Americans) but he didn’t get the fanfare when he was hired that a couple video guys from LSU received.
I understand the importance of a great support staff and how recruits like videos.
Here is the message from USC’s administrators Wednesday: Everything is soooo important to rebuild the football program . . . except having a good head coach.
If Mike Bohn can circumvent a hiring freeze to hire tape guys, why can’t he fire Clay Helton?
You want to throw a party over support staffers? Then why isn’t a quality head of the program vitally important?
I suspect Bohn and Co. would whisper to be patient regarding Helton. But that change is what I will break out a noisemaker or a GIF for, not a couple of hype video guys.

Obviously, Ken, SW doesn’t understand ( saying he understands isn’t enough to show that he does) that recruits like videos, the importance of social media- as recruits are on the precipice of something that could be potentially lucrative for them as student- athletes- and the importance of hiring talented people. I just don’t get the point of this post.

Those hype videos are very important, and play a big role in Mike Bohn, and Clay Helton’s con artist game. And once some videos are produced, and released, then look for season tickets to escalate . It’s a great idea, because USC has never made the playoffs, and has a coach who took the program backwards. And after the Alabama massacre, the hype videos will have zero credibility, and become a comedy show 😂

Evidently not as the ruins have all of two (2) recruits at this point. But they are ranked in the top 70.

Honest question, Fan Boy, is there anything good that USC does nowadays? No disrespect, I dislike Helton and the jury is still out on Bohn in my book (although he has made some positive moves).

Unfortunately truth in advertising is now an antiquated concept. The phrase “nothing is as it appears” doesn’t raise any alarms about the thing that ain’t appearing like it should be appearing. Self serving alterations of the true picture are now taken in oblivious stride by a generation wired from birth. Some may say “hey, nothin wrong with polishing the apple, no harm in showing it in its best light”. That might be true… unless you’re the person who was looking for that kinda apple only to find out that fucker was dented and has what looks to be a worm hole. And its widely believed to be precisely these kind of innocuous discrepancies between what’s expected/anticipated and what’s actually delivered that have contributed to a rapidly escalating teen suicide rate. Sure, maybe I’ve gone a bit too deep for a Thurs morn, but trust, it’s not a reach. When impressionable kids are relentlessly exposed to a literal world of disappointment cause the pic doesn’t match the reality, and it’s comin at them at every level, from every carnival barker – be it a university or digital “friends” in their Instagram circle – there’s bound to be trouble. True leaders, real adults, valued institutions, and or anyone who remembers a time when false advertising was equated with used car sales shouldn’t be celebrating their new membership in the hype club. They can try and excuse it away by saying it’s what the kids want. While we’re at it why not let kiddies eat donuts for breakfast and zone out on Spongebob, etc? Oh wait…

LSU has raided USC (Robinson, Allen , Kendiche- sorry for the misspelling,) and southern California (Elias Ricks, that WR from St. John Bosco etc)
