As Signing Day Continues, Mike Bohn Wants Respect

Yesterday, Keyshawn Johnson was upset Mike Bohn did not defend USC more against the idea Ohio State is more deserving of a College Football Playoff berth.

Bohn might be right but it looks like he got the message. Here is what he told Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times last night.

“It’s just frustrating,” Bohn said. “I’m not sure the Pac-12 has been given the type of respect it deserves.”

The problem for USC (and Bohn) is the CFP committee actually watched the Trojans play this season.

“In three of those games, USC was behind in the fourth quarter,” chairperson Gary Barta said.

“It’s important to win, but the committee watches all the games, and who you play is important and how you win those games is also important.”

My reaction: USC is not deserving, obviously. The Pac-12 is awful. But the Pac-10 had bad teams when Pete Carroll was the coach too. So he went out and won games, often in impressive fashion.

That’s why you need a GOOD COACH. It always comes back to that. Not blaming the SEC. Or the CFP. Or ESPN. Or anyone else. Hire. A. Good. Coach.

      1. Yep, QB is the quacks’ weak spot. And for some reason, their top RB (Verdell) for the last couple of years hasn’t been getting much action the last 3 games. Trojans should win this game. Win it big, and people will notice. Need 4 good quarters! And few missed tackles! And OL to hold their blocks!

      2. I love that you were outed once again, Charlie Bucket! BWWWWWWWWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trojandude207 1d ago Well this IS interesting. I am not sure if this site is for me anymore. Each email address used generates a unique symbol that represents the email address. One person on this page has 10 such symbols generated for his username. That is some next level trolling. And none of messages upon this thread has anything to do with the the purpose of the thread. It has developed into a prepubescent name calling.

      1. Good point – on the other hand, it does seem that the people who make these decisions respond to the margin of the win. The one committee member remarking that “USC was behind in the 4th quarter” as to why they aren’t ranked higher would be an example of that.

      2. Because knowing Helton, he will lose the peking ducks. This is despicable, or in daffy duck language, “Diiiiiiiiithspectible”..

    1. It is interesting that Bohn is from Ohio, he talks so much about Ohio State, he has the OSU connections, and right in our backyard is one of the most successful HCs in recent memory, and a former OSU guy at that.

  1. As long as Carol Folt is the president of the university, she will NEVER allow a coach to come in who will make more money than her. Both she and Bohn are OUTSIDERS who have no true understanding what USC football means to the student body, alumni, boosters, or subway fans. Nothing will change anytime soon.

  2. On the flip side, in the last two years a 5-7 USC lost to a Playoff Participant Notre Dame by 7 and a 8-5 USC Team lost to them on the road by 3. Notre Dame is a Playoff Caliber team this year, while USC is much improved. Does this suggest that USC couldn’t strongly compete with a Playoff Caliber Team? I would also suggest that only Alabama is truly elite this year, and even at that their Pass Rush with several Freshman and Pass Defense is suspect given what Ole Miss did to them.

  3. Hey Mike, it’s a real simple concept. Respect is earned and not given. If you want respect then tell your boy Clay to go out and beat a quality opponent, not some tomato can from the Pac-12. Either that, or show some jeuvos and hire a big name coach. The last time USC beat a quality opponent was in the Rose Bowl against Penn State, and that was because Penn State screwed up the clock management late in the game. Do you need to see the tape of the Holiday Bowl? When USC got curb stomped by Iowa, a third place team from the Big-Ten.

  4. Best scenario for USC is to win the Pac-12 and have Alabama, Notre Dame & Ohio State win. The Committee will then need to spin how only 3 of the 4 Undefeated Conference Champions got in. The easy out for them would to be to include all 4 and call it a day.

  5. Mr. Bohn, I respect you to the degree of which you have earned it. You are deserving of the position which you hold, as you are just one in a long line of clueless Athletics Directors in the PAC 12.
I respect the fact that you gave up a low paying position in Ohio to move to California and I am sure you miss all of the Ohio weather that we do not have here on the west coast.
I respect your opinion that Clay Helton is a coach worthy of millions of dollars, obviously you are entitled to your opinion and most likely have not encountered any coach of higher caliber.
I also respect the fact that you can ignore countless calls from ruthless fans, professional football coaches and players to remedy the fall of Troy at the hands of a bouncing, bumbling baboon of a coach. Tuning out such rhetoric must be deafening and yet you hear the cash flowing into your account.
In order to earn more of my respect you could try one of two things. First, in spite of our fluke record of the season, fire the coach imposter who has occupied heritage hall for longer than anyone could have predicted.
Or two resign and take your severance pay to find a position in a nice quiet company such as Sears automotive, where your ability to ignore people will be appreciated.
Respectfully (all the respect you deserve)

  6. I think Dart will beat out Miller Moss. I think that he would have beat out Jake Garcia if he had stayed. It’s hard to tell for sure because I’m just looking at film and how much can you get from highlight film. But he looks good on film.
