I already mentioned Lindsay Gottlieb and Andy Enfield share the same agent (Bret Just).
But a part of me wonders if Gottlieb had been an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic instead of the Cleveland Cavaliers, would she have gotten the job?
The decision-makers in the athletic dept. are obsessed with Cincinnati/Ohio, so Gottlieb might have been known simply because she was coaching 250 miles away.
It reminded me when I saw former USC defensive lineman Frostee Rucker sitting courtside at a USC-UCLA game in 2019. I was happy to see Rucker at a game. But was it because he played at USC or played for the Cincinnati Bengals?
It should have been the former but I suspect it was the latter.
- USC 12th? That probably says a lot about the past 10 years.

Maybe some one can help me with this. Was the game played in Ohio? If not why would a Cincinnati bengal come to LA to see a college game? Why would it matter to a Cincinnati player, we’re other teammates there?

Hi,
It could have been a game in February or March and after the super bowl. Also, he could live out here during the off season.

There IS a dearth of USC news. Is there any reason we can’t help Scott out? Maybe by meeting up at Argonaut Hall some midnight, disguising ourselves as Disneyland characters and toilet-papering Folt’s office? All in fun, of course.

Wolf could have said former Cleveland Brown Frostee Rucker, last time I looked Cleveland was in Ohio, that fits his conspiracy theory about Cincinnati and Ohio, right ?

Folt’s title puts her at the metaphorical (dead) horse’s head…. being so much further down the org chart, Helton is located somewhere else…..

They are rated 12th in the last 10 years. Now look at where they are rated in the last 12 years in team recruiting…..even better in team talent. I’d guess in the top 5. There is only one word that describes that scenario……UNDERACHIEVEMENT!

“Underachievement.” There is NO other way of looking at. [Phil Steele’s Power Rankings have USC in the Top Ten for the last 10 years too].

That’s why I’m for moving on from Clay Helton. I don’t dislike him. Contrary to what most SC fans think, I do think that he is a good guy. But you don’t pay a coach 5 mil a year to be a good guy. They pay a women basketball coach 1 mil a year and that makes the 3 people(maybe 2, who knows….it ain’t many) who follow USC womens basketball happy. Meanwhile the millions of USC football fans are left hanging.

Seriously? I get it that Bohn loves to hire University of Cincinnati coaches he knows from his time there, but this is ridiculous trying to make this fit a narrative.

As a general rule I’m a believer in giving folks the benefit of the doubt re: their character, whether they’re a good dude, etc, etc, until they prove different. At first glance tbat approach may seem a bit pollyannish, but trust, it ain’t. Eyes wide open, actions are louder than words, tell a man by his friends, and so on… Now, before I start tossing my two dogecoins around re: the man of the hour, Americas #1 fav, someone who I hear is just a peach of a ball coach, not too mention a father figure to 118 kids who’ve already got their own much cooler father fig to begin with, and yes I’m talkin’ aboot our very own Clam Helton, lemme just say I only know what I read, and/or what I hear in my local watering hole. In other words not much. Matter of fact, I wish I knew less.
Disclaimer out of the way, it’s opinion sharing time and here’s mine: In a high paying, high profile, profession like head ball coachin’ at someplace like a USC in 2010s thru current, 18, 19, there aren’t any simple goobers getting hired. Cold and calculating men who’ve spent decades fighting to stay employed as they cut their teeth in footballs meat market are usually the type who survive until they end up head honcho. So when this kinda cutthroat gets in front of a mic and starts in with the gosh golly and god shit, I gotta question if legit. Seriously, in 2021 how many folks, from the south or otherwise, do you see doin the gosh golly routine? Hell, when I was temp stationed (aka TDY) in da south, I don’t think I ever came across someone playin up the hick/hillbilly simple and honest john crap the way clam does. The only reason he’s got this good guy persona thing is cause that’s what we were told from jump street. If anything we’ve learned that true words re: football and Helton aren’t familiar with each other. I don’t see any reason why that same word/reality disconnect doesn’t apply to his supposed integrity too.

Why doesn’t Folt see the phony you so accurately described? Can she really be that gullible? If she is, she’s not gonna last long…..

Appreciate the good word MG. As far as Folt seeing what’s what, I’d wager one US dollar that she most definitely does… takes one to know one, birds of a feather and so on. Unfortunately, USC is beginning to exhibit the destructive, non-producing symptoms that plague our streets, whether Wall or Main. Im talkin bout a flawed mindset that prioritizes agendas that focus on doing shit that gets the most likes, while cockblocking anyone or anything that is focused on doing the things that are right whether those things come easy, or they come with a price. No one seems to care if an end product is crap, they only care if the decision to make the crap filled some room with meaningless kumbaya.

Figured while Im busy high horsin’ it, I may as well offer up one more thing to contemplate for discussion/arguments sake. If we accept that there was a legit offer by a wealthy and concerned donor/alum to cover the cost of heltons buyout, it would, at least as far as USCs finances go, render clays buyout clause a non-event, never existed. It would, in effect, put clays termination on par with that of firing a math professor whos been teaching the kids he’s been entrusted with that 2+2=5. Well, Clay has been doing the equivalent when it comes to “teaching” football. So the question then becomes would Folt retain a math teacher who doesn’t know math? I would certainly hope so if USC still believes in giving its students best in class education. Now what if that math professor said “well gosh golly 2+2=5 so help me god and jesus” Is that the magic phrase that keeps him/her employed despite not knowing shit about math? Who knows these days… For any Folt sympathizers who say that b/c Clay is high profile for the uni, while a math teacher isnt, retaining steady eddy good guy helton during the image wrecking legal firestorm for appearances sake creates a positive value for the overall school that exceeds any negative value he’s creating on the football field, do you really think anyone outside of USC gives a shit what clay says? Is anyone favorably swayed in their opinion of USC, the Tyndall debacle, etc just because Clay’s consistently producing mediocrity? News flash Folt: Clay carries zero weight, zero cred, and zero benefit. As far as the “good influence” we’re told he provides? He couldn’t influence a turd to find the bottom of the bowl.
