USC Morning Buzz: A Lack Of Information On Tailgating

Does USC intend to explain how it arrived at the figure of $496 for a tailgate parking pass?

So much of what USC does comes without explanation these days. If you read the blog regularly, you know I’ve written about the former ticket manager John Morley, who used to hold press conferences and regularly explain to students and fans the ticket availability/prices for games.

Now? USC fans get an email that doesn’t properly explain how they are getting shafted.

In the past few years, a lot of fans were displaced by the Coliseum renovation. They no longer sit with the people they sat with for decades at games.

Now they are being gouged for a tailgate pass. And by the way, what does that pass entitle you to? I didn’t see any examples of a tailgate space in that USC email that was sent out?

USC always wants the fans to take their word for it. And write the check.

It reminds me of the donor who donated millions to the athletic dept. but withheld a sizeable donation because he was unhappy with the quality of construction on a building.

The donor got a letter: “We might have to take your name off (any buildings).”

You are only as good as your last check.

      1. He can take a hit. He’s taken plenty of them & bounced right back. The film you posted is a compilation of fake graphics— like the NASA “moon landing” conspiracy you shrewdly saw through.

      2. The above video is what happens when you don’t move, standing around like a statue, no juke skill whatsoever.

Getting rid of the ball quicker would help, you still might take a hit, but you also might benefit from a roughing the passer call.

You can’t tell me that girl Slovis didn’t see Jalen McKenzie whif on the block before she got hit.

      3. Well, that girl Slovis sure didn’t bounce back vs Utah, Matt Fink had to come in and save the day.

Watch as Fink escapes pressure by moving his feet…

They teach that during Pee Wee, Fink must have remembered that because they don’t teach that at USC. You think they would teach that with so many supposed offense and qb guru’s on staff.

        LOL!

    1. 67 –This is great stuff. 2 things become clear —(1) Kedon played better, smarter football than I remembered against Arizona State and (2) Arizona State’s ‘safeties’ (if you can even call them that —that’s a weird bunch of defensive formations Arizona State’s got) were not as good as advertised.

      1. Michael, Slovis definitely looks good here. In terms of the o-line, it seems that the d-line is totally teeing off, knowing that USC is passing. Mixing up the play calling would help a lot with that.

      2. I can’t believe that Graham doesn’t get that. Is it laziness? Does he want to stick EXCLUSIVELY with the system he’s most comfortable with? Some of his plays look a lot like the ones I called at Webster Junior High School: “Everybody go out!”

I have to say, the response of “The surest path to sustainability is to put Clay Helton in a rocket and shoot him to the sun” has a couple of things going for it.

  1. USC should give back the tailgating fee to all the suckers who pay it for every home game loss seeing how they’re so confident in Clay Helton’s coaching ability.

    LOL!

  2. Folt and Bohn have been at USC for about five minutes. They already act so entitled and unaccountable. And they’re not even from USC. Forget that the idea that they have no sense of urgency about football. They have no aspirations whatsoever to make USC football championship caliber again. Just keep sending in your donations.

    2. What do you think Folt’s aspirations are for USC as a whole? Has she ever articulated them?

I think Folt just carries out Caruso’s mandate, which is to make USC woke to appease his ultra-liberal Hollywood supporters for a run as mayor of LA.

      1. Carol Folt has been too busy posting notices of USC social events and congratulatory messages on Twitter, that’s her sole function as Puppet President.

      2. Every tweet that Folt sends out she gets blasted with “Fire Helton”.

9 out of 10 tweet replies to Folt’s tweets are about firing Helton.

No one gives a shit about any USC drama club news or event that Folt loves to tweet about.

        LOL!

    3. Just like polticians in office just send us your donations to our campaigns or our charity foundations. That’s why USC leadership has gone out the door. Not true leaders at the top running things; it’s all about the money. No matter how long Troy must fall with incompetence and inept leadership.

      1. Yeah something you are not owns! Bitching! or should I say up to the task instead. Always bitching about the USC Trojans. But something in the back of that hollow mind of yours tells you, what you really strive to be a, Trojan.

  3. USC and the Air Raid will be champions every year in the summer passing leagues. The problem is real football is physical football won in the trenches. We run around opponents rather than going right at them. I can’t remember a game in the last ten years where USC won a game by physically dominating their opponent in the trenches.

Maybe the real problem is Clay Helton, Graham “The Prince of Bel Air” Harrell, and even Bohn do not know how to run the football. Helton, played at the Univ of Houston, Harrell at Texas Trade Tech, and Bohn Kansas all programs that never ran the football, and tried to out score their opponents each and every game with the passing game only.

We need to completely clean house to create a new physical football mentality if the program is going to be restored. The “nutty” professers we have now all think the same which is the incorrect way to win big football games in the playoffs.

    1. I think you are forgetting Todd Orlando. He is a physical football guy and quite frankly, he is the force that is moving the program forward. Actually, I should restate that. I think TO’s whole defensive staff is the only forward step with the program. Maybe Stiner is pretty good too.

There is alot of negativity about the program from fans, but i actually think that SC could be quite good this year. If Slovis is on his game he can pull the offense along. If McGuire helps to integrate a somewhat effective run game. And if TO’s first full year of coaching yields some steps forward, then this team could really be good.

Doesnt mean I dont want a new coach. Just saying that the negativity is overblown.

    2. USC beat up Washington in 2016. We beat up UCLA that year too. We beat up Stanford in the 2017 Pac 12 Championship. These are ALL pre-Harrell wins, obviously.
I will only change my mind about Harrell if he beats up Notre Dame at South Bend on October 23rd.

  4. Graham Harrell has over-simplified Lane Kiffin’s playbook, Harrell institutes the bubble screen on 85% of his offensive play calling to Kiffin’s 70%.

    1. Not true. Harrell has his problems but he’s got Slovis throwing every kind of pass known to mankind all over the field every game….

$496 for 6 home games of parking and about ten feet behind you.

Such a deal in downtown L.A.
I parked there once. Yeeowww. Never again.

      1. Preferred parking for the Giants used to be a Hundy. God only knows what it is now. Unless you want to rock and roll, Hey Guarino, knock it off about Berkeley. Berkeley is the city. Cal is the school. They ain’t the same.

We had a big lot. We sold parking to the alums for $5 including a spaghetti dinner and beer after the game.

Tail gating is free at the farm and at Cal. Do a weekender and watch Helton suck it.

  6. Tebowbama,

What the hell do you put on this blog? Who the hell is Mick Darlymple and what the hell does he do? Are you serious that this walking piece of a snowflake will be able to get zero mission on whatever? These people are so full of Political Crapness that they themselves will kill the earth. Trees, bushes, grass, and other plants take in carbon omissions and produce oxygen for these yahoos. Maybe these idiots aren’t getting enough oxygen and they think that way. What a bunch of Maroons. Quote from Bugs Bunny. This dude is big waste of money. Fire him and Folt and Bohn, and Helton. Can We just napam SC and start over?

  7. Speaking of BB Coaches worth their contract extension, UCLA just added home and home non-conf. games with Villanova for the 21-22 and 22-23 season.

Andyain’twinning just added the New Guinea BB All-Star’s team to his usual non-conf. cupcake schedule.

    1. Good to keep the bruins inside the continental 48 for those non-conference games. When they travel outside, bad stuff happens, particularly if there is a Louis Vuitton store calling out to them. Anyway, I’ll pencil in a couple of ucla losses to start those seasons.

  8. I haven’t been there in a while, but the coliseum area has added a museum in recent years. Two parking lots we used to park in, were taken over for the building. I don’t know if a parking structure has been added, but many small tailgate parties were going on back in the day.
The new fee seems to be a vanity charge. The way they came up with the price is a “Well it ain’t $500.00” psychological ploy. What you get for the price is a parking space and area for your bar, bbq and big screen TV . No mystery here. What I want to know is if the parking lots are going to roust groups that congregate around the tailgate of a pickup the way my family did during the sixties. Dad would bring a six pack of Hire’s root beer in a collapsing cold bag. Mom would make sandwiches and potato salad and the tailgate was our table. That’s a tailgate party.
