Clay Helton Is Finally Fired!

He got two games even though it wasn’t a make-or-break season?

Donte Williams is No. 2 even after his secondary got shredded on Saturday night?

Bohn and his lackey, Brandon Sosna, were huddling all morning. That’s one reason I had not posted much today.

They obviosly want Luck Fickell but I doubt he leaves Cinciinati at this point of the season. Some other names were watching: James Franklin, Bob Stoops, Matt Campbell, Chris Petersen and Bob Stoops.

Here is Mike Bohn’s statement:

I’m sure that statement has been sitting on Bohn’s desk for nearly two years. I will have more today.

  6. This mess you’re witnessing up in Pullman was years in the making. Helton and his soft ass practices, letting players practice when they want, no discipline, no accountability.

USC hiring crap assistants because they didn’t want coordinators showing up Helton.

Predictable play calling. Recruiting nothing but WR’s every year, never focusing on the offensive line. Every opponent knows USC’s offensive line is crap, they can’t block, they can’t pass protect, they know that this shit offense is all about getting the ball out quick which means defenses crowd the line and there goes any chance at a run game. Trojan WR’s are supposed to be 4 & 5 star and yet they can’t get separation if their lives depended on it.

It’s just a fucking mess all stemming from years and years of shit coaching. I don’t know if you can even call it coaching because the players are not being taught anything.

Might be the highest scoring quarter since the 50-0 versus Westwood. Tremendous game by the Drakes as well!

  11. Love Jackson Dart- he has guts, strong learship qualities, and motivates the rest of the team to a higher level. We must protect the QB even Dart got hit alot today, and I fear our quarterbacks are in danger each and every game because of sloppy offensive line play.

We are in big trouble with our offensive line. They are slow, poor athletes, and get no push on the snap of the ball. Some of this is due to the Air Raid offense, but most of it is due to POOR RECRUITING.

Hard to get real excited though with just Dart. The quarterback position has not been our problem in the last ten years. Barkley, Kessler, Daniels, Slovis, and now Dart have all performed well when they were giving time despite the lack of a running game.

Bottom line Washington St. is not a good football team. I give Donte alot of credit though for keeping the players motivated after being down. We will not beat a good team without a running game despite talent at the QB position.

Yes, we have another star qb in the making, and we have had quite a few in the last ten years, but despite that USC has not been a championship level team, and will not be a championship team again UNTIL THE OFFENSIVE LINE IMPROVES, AND A CONSISTENT RUNNING GAME IS ESTABLISHED.

Very happy for the players, and Donte with the win, but without a running game this season it is hard to be too optimistic. the rest of the way. Good teams can easily stop 1 dimensional passing teams. We got rid of the Sheriff Clay Helton, but to return to championship level his deputy Graham Harrel will also have to be sent out of town on the next bus.

  12. That game certainly tested one’s emotions. From getting pissed off when they got down by 14 and were playing awfull to sheer jubilation once Dart found his grove as did the defense. Donte proved to be a man of his word by holding the players accountable. Steele was benched for his personal foul and once the penance was complete, he was allowed to come back and play late in the game.
Here’s hoping that Donte is for real and able to elevate all his players.
Won’t get too excited with this win as Wazzoo isn’t exactly a top tier team but one that was perfect for the situation that SC found itself in.
The rest of the season just got a whole lot more interesting.

With Reign of Troy and Chronicles joining the scrap heap pile together with Wolfie, there aren’t any “entertaining” SC blogs to read. If you know of any, please advise.

If this is the end, then “so long and thanks for all the fish.’

  13. UCLA VS. FRESNO STATE- WHAT A GAME BY THE FRESNO QB. Fresno St. tried to give it away, but fought back after alot of gifts to the Bruins.

I still say UCLA is still the team to beat in the Pac 12 South with Arizona State 2nd, and SC and UTAH battling it out for 3rd.

As far as USC the Air Raid will win them some games against the weaker teams, but the offensive line is too weak to beat the good teams.

Our defensive line does not put enough pressure on the opposing team QB’s. Yes, Drake Jackson made 1 nice play, but to me he is way overrated .We miss the kid Sophster who transferred from Alabama but has yet to play due to injury. Did you all notice Jay Toia who transferred to UCLA just before the season is now starting at UCLA on the defensive line, and we certainly could have used his size and muscle on the line.

The Pac 12 is not looking good to have a team in the playoffs. I do think someone will beat Oregon maybe UCLA when then play them at home in the Rose Bowl.

  18.   I’m not necessarily pulling for SC this year. I’m afraid that if they do too well they will hire Donte Williams. He’s a young black guy who communicates well with all those young black athletes and also the white ones. If they win 8 games I can see the athletes demanding that they hire this guy and since the administration would love to be politically correct and hire a black man, they might go along.   Donte Williams has never been a HC. He’s never been a co-ordinator. He’s strickly been a position coach and he’s a good one. But do we want to take a chance of hiring another Clay Helton and be stuck with him for 5 years of more mediocre football. As a result, the players pick the coach and get what they want. The super elite politically correct administration gets what they want. And the fans get screwed. I say hire the best guy that is available.  The players should not be picking the head coach. After the 1999 season, the Michigan State players marched into the school presidents office and demanded that the school hire Bobby Williams as the new HC. The school gave in and hired him. He was 5-6 in 2000, 7-5 in 2001 and 3-6 in 2002. Michigan State finished 8th, 8th and 9th in his 3 years as HC at Michigan State in the Big 10. They fired him after the 2002 season. Hire the best guy! Where is the Wolfman!

He always appeared to be doing an impersonation of Oral Roberts or Bishop Sheen. Nobody played FOR Helton. Donte commands respect –players trust him. He may not ultimately be THE guy —but he’s no pretender either.

    2. There is no way that Folt/Bohn make that call, there is too much on the line. Sua Cravens is the one who led the charge to get Helton hired at the end of that year. Hopefully, Bohn has already told Williams that he will not be the head man, regardless of what happens. USC needs to hire a bona-fide, proven Head Coach that is big enough for this job.

      1. I couldn’t agree with you more than I do. SC has a golden opportunity right now. There are going to be really good proven winners drooling over this job. You have the weather. You have the tradition(11 national titles, 7 Heisman trophies), you have the glitter of LA, the beaches, deserts montains. Then you have this fantastic recruiting market that you are sitting right on top of. Where do all of the Pac-12 schools, as well as many others around the nations, get their players(including Oregon)? Right here in LA. I do think that Mario Cristobal would be interested in this job if it wasn’t for the fact that he is eyeing the Miami job(he’s from Florida). Then there is the fact that if you really want to build a successful program, you must have a outstanding QB. Look at how CH did when he had Sam Darnold and what he did after he left. Whoever takes this job will have a lot of talent at QB. There is going to be plenty of successful HC’s eyeing this job. Don’t waste your pick on a person that has never been a HC before. We can’t take a chance. We missed on 3 coaches in a row. We can’t afford to miss a 4th time.

I also it’s fair to state that the Pac 12 Commissioner is going to have some influence on what USC decides. Again, there is a great deal at stake with this hire.

  20. Mike Bohn, when asked what he wanted in a new coach said “No question, it’s leadership, high integrity, character, the ability to connect with young men”. If he is looking for high integrity and character, then he doesn’t want Eric Bieniemy. Eric Bieniemy has a record as long as my right arm(sometimes with the police). If you don’t believe me just google in “Eric Bieniemy Wiki”. They have a whole section about his troubles. You don’t want somebody like that because he is liable to end up breaking the rules and the last thing that SC needs right now is to go back under NCAA sanctions. That would destroy this program.  Besides, He has never been a HC before. He’s had success lately with the chiefs because he has had one of the best QB’s in football. Helton looked pretty good when he had Sam Darnold. He’s been 19-14 since Darnold left. Get somebody who has had success as a HC

    1. Hard to believe that two guys who ostensibly know football – Haden and Swann – both made the same mistake, one with the initial hire, and one on extending Helton.

      Liked by 2 people

      1. 67 —I still say something smells about the Helton extension. Lynn wasn’t (couldn’t have been) that dumb. Interesting that Folt’s first major decision was “I think I’ll tell Lynn Swann to pack his things.”

      2. Michael, the Helton extension by Swann might go down as one of the stupidest sports admin decisions in the last 10 years in college FB. And what about the buyout? Swann gave him $ for $ on that. In all the stories about the rumors for USC HC, buyouts of various guys are listed (can’t recall the details), but even the guys recently extended seem to have buyouts that are much less than $ for $. 2. The main reason that I worry about integrity is because if we brought someone in who is was very Machiavallian(the ends justify the means) and is willing to do anything to win(even cheat) and he got us back on probation with the NCAA, that would be a death blow to this program.
But forget the integrity part. There are a lot of good assistants out there who will be really good HC’s some day. There are also a lot of really good assistants who will be a real bust someday as a HC. It’s one thing to be a great assistant. It’s another thing to be a great HC. Norm Chow, Homer Smith(from UCLA’s Terry Donahue days), Buddy Ryan and many others were great assistants but not great HC’s. I just don’t think that we can take a chance. We have made 3 mistakes in a row. I don’t think this program can make a 4th one and have to endure 4-5 more years of CH Jr. And we’ve got a much better chance this time around of getting a great HC. The NCAA sanctions are over. We have to make sure we get the right guy this time.

    2. After seeing those pics of Dorian with his piss stained pants, then watching him on the final drive… he’s probably lost what little mind he had.

And besides, he hates it when I’m right.

      Hahahahaha 💕💗💋🤯

      1. I’m hearing that —as difficult as it is for Trojan fans to understand —bruin fans are buying up [what they appreciatively call “the UCLA urine experience”] photos as fast as they can ( 8x 10 black and white =$100, color =$150)……..

btw, it was Biden who pissed all over Tyler’s clothes….but it was an accident….

  25. A couple thoughts –I hope Donte doesn’t really believe that the team is gonna play as hard for Kedon as they did for Dart. They won’t. Dart energized them in a way Slovis doesn’t anymore (for whatever reason —probably because they see him as Harrell’s pet).
Also –what is Donte talking about when he says Moss might go into the game and run the wildcat? Does he think anybody is gonna fear Moss as a runner?

    1. Also –Dart gets the ball out almost a whole second faster than Kedon. This is huge given our O-Line. As a matter of fact, even if we had the best O-Line in college history (and no one will ever accuse us of that), Dart would play the exact same way –he likes to play fast.

      1. Exactly right! Hope Harrell tells him “get out there and have fun again — we can handle an interception or two if everybody is having a blast playing FOOTBALL”…..

      1. Whatever happens to Donte coach-wise if he can lead USC to impressive victories over Notre Dame and UCLA recruiting will take care of itself….

      2. If USC football was a publicly-traded co, then the emergence of Jaxon and the firing of Clay would have sent the shares up by a lot, and hopefully that will morph into recruiting. I get the feeling that Donte will be a really good HC at a power 5 school before long, even if it is not USC.

      3. I agree. I think Donte is respected for playing it straight. He’s happy, he kisses you. He’s mad, he yells at you. No “Happy Tuesday, Everybody” or “Thank You For Your Question…Appreciate It!” That is not the way men talk….

      4. Wanda: Clay will you get ever get shit faced like Sark?
Clay: Liquor makes me feel like a man trapped in a woman’s body.
        Wanda: Or snort coke?
Clay: I can’t even breathe through my nose.
        Wanda: How ’bout sexual attacks?
Clay: Ask my little woman: I have zero interest.
Wanda: Be sure to let the team know…

    1. He is not phony-baloney “head coach material.” He isn’t “Hollywood polished” coaching material. But he’s a guy who knows how to run a football team. And get RESULTS.
