Discuss The USC-ASU Game

Another week, another embarrassing loss.

USC’s defense is so porous and unable to tackle.

The offense is anemic and I cannot explain the way the QBs are rotated because it makes no sense.

Jaxson Dart led USC to its first TD and then gets yanked for Kedon Slovis.

What are these coaches thinking? I’m tired of the Donte Williams era.

    1. LMFAO!

#1 Fickell fanboy Scott Wolf almost saw his boy Luke snatch defeat from the jaws of victory tonight when Cincinnati should have lost to Tulsa.

A Tulsa team that was beaten by FCS UC Davis.

Fickell fanboy Scott Wolf sure knows how to pick ’em, huh?

OH MY SIDE HURTS FROM LAUGHING SO MUCH!

AHA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

      1. Donte was hired for recruiting purposes so why are any of you clowns shocked that he can’t coach worth a shit?

You clowns are just as dumb as he is.

    2. Have spent many years in management, I see this from my vantage point. There is no management, no leadership. It looks, to me, that Donte is making the rookie manager mistakes of trying to please everyone instead of recognizing his job is to make the right decision for the organization, not try a fool’s errand of trying to please everyone. That’s impossible. Bohn is an absolute failure to drop the job onto an inexperienced Donte and then being MIA instead of managing him. SC will not get better until it has strong leadership and a direction. The most successful teams don’t necessarily have the most super stars, what they have is a common goal and good leadership. They play like a team. The current SC team looks like a group of individuals who were thrown together at the last minute and told to beat the guys in the other uniform. Their confusion is evident and depressing.

  1. I guess Slovis was more important for the team because his family and friends were there to see him play. What about the rest of team Donte Williams? That QB rotation was a horrible.

    1. Rest of “the team”? What Team? This is a just a bunch of guys playing on the field at the same time.
I think it was Fuck You who said he doubted I even watched the games. Well, after tonight I really won’t be watching. I’ll still be here –making childish comments but it won’t be based on watching Trojan sports. It’s just a waste of time now.
Urban Meyer WANTED to come to USC and fix the program. Folt, that hypocritical horse’s ass, was offended by his interest. We kept goofy Clay instead od Urban Meyer. That says it all.
      Fuck Bohn and Folt.

      1. I couldn’t agree with you more MG. Bohn and Folt are the 2 biggest problems facing USC has right now. Thanks for fixing team for me. You are right there is no team. Those 2 got to go before they destroy what made USC great. Those 2 idiots are fucin clueless.
The fan base was hyped up for Urban Meyer who was in their own back yard and they stuck with clueless Clay over game balls. That Kedon Slovis and Drake London deserved for beating UCLA. That decision alone shows they are both incompetent and need to be shown the door asap. Everyone sees USC as a clown college noe but them.

      2. yeah, MG, exactly…well, Daniels didn’t account for 6 TDs, but this result kind of offset the undeserved win from last year…you could see how badly the ASU team is coached on game day, but even with that, light years ahead of the dumpster fire at USC…2021 has clearly put in the shade any of the other teams contending for worst in the post Jess Hill era to rest…and even though there are lots of “sub errors,” it all goes back to the (conscious/subconscious, no matter) decision to deemphasize football, most destructively evidenced by the retention of Helton. And the same ‘bozo clowns,’ to paraphrase Owns, are still pulling the strings.

      3. Perfect!!!!I remember seeing an interview with Tony Dungy during which he was asked what was the difference between the two teams he brought to the Super Bowl: the first lost, the second won. He quickly responded, the first team I took was filled with super stars, the second team did not have individually great super stars, but they played like a team together and for each other. That made the difference. The TEAM WON. Until USC has a great coach to unify them and give them achievable goals, they will not succeed.

      4. Probably not a lot of hockey fans on this site, but if anyone wants to see, in a sports context, what that looks like, look into what Barry Trotz accomplished in leading the Washington Capitals to a Stanley Cup title (beating good teams along the way, including the red hot inception year Vegas Golden Knights) – came into the position with a franchise that had experienced years of post-season failure, with arguably one of the 5 greatest offensive talents in the history of the sport (Alex Ovechkin)…remade most of the roster, changed the style of play from offense to defensive responsibility first…butted heads with his superstar to get him to buy in…and won (and then, as the Capitals have learned to their dismay, made the same mistake the Rams made in pressuring Dick Vermeil to retire immediately after winning the 2000 Super Bowl). Trotz has lead the New York Islanders to the brink of the Stanley Cup the last two seasons, and it would be no surprise if he wins it this year. Great coaches create a culture/atmosphere, demand accountability from themselves and consequently everyone involved in the enterprise, and know how to push players to maximize their individual abilities in a way that strengthens the group dynamic. Clay Helton and all associated with his tenure above and below do not grasp this concept. Helton is now gone. The responsible string-pullers are still here. Nothing has changed. Nothing will change…until/unless…

  2. ASU tried to give the game to USC up until the 4th qtr, and sadly this team did not accept the gift. A good or better than average team would have beat ASU tonight, but USC is not in that category.

There were many questionable offensive play calls in that 3rd qtr by Graham Harrell, and that’s when the game was up for grabs, and it took away the possibility of gaining any type of momentum.

One QB should be playing period . Alternating the QB’s makes little sense. I would use Dart though in the red zone for sure because of his ability to run with the game which keeps the defense guessing.

All in All this loss was expected. USC is a below average team with no identity, and no leadership on offense and defense. It appears USC is playing not to lose with very little fire.

Slovis should transfer, and probably will at the end of the season. If USC wants to get Dart ready for next season then start him quit fooling around with alternating the QB’s. I also will say ASU looked bad tonight despite having more talent than USC so I question whether Herm Edwards is doing a good job.

      1. That’s the 2nd time in a week I agree completely with Owns!! Not a single one of us should claim that Herm Edwards is a bad coach when we kept the Village Idiot (who had 0 HC experience) for 6+years and gave him raises for mediocre performances that made him too expensive to fire for 2 of those years!! After the finger roll jump after scoring the TD, Dart was favoring the knee. Not smart.

    2. They almost won in Norman last year and are at the top of the cycle that Air Force and Navy went through for long periods using a triple option offense, having success, and occasionally beating name teams…don’t think USC would want to play them right now, in all seriousness.

      1. James —I honestly don’t think USC WANTS to play anyone. They have no philosophy on offense and no toughness no defense (yes, there are the scattered good plays —but absolutely no cohesion, no continuity).
There was a fighter I like named Sergio Mora who showed flashes of brilliance –but had no game plan in a fight. He was always winging it –trying this and, then, that. Never learned to just keep the jab out there and score some points. This team reminds me of watching Sergio fight. In courtroom battles you always have to have a “theory of the case” —a basic battle plan that you stick to on direct, cross, closing. If you don’t understand where you’re headed and what your strengths are —you lose every time. That’s us under Helton, Bohn and Folt.

      2. Exactly right – remember I brought up once the article SI did on USC/Larry Smith/Rodney Peete covering the 1988 UCLA game – still valid regardless of the disaster that unfolded a week later courtesy of Lou Holts (and to Carra’s points – I have pointed to him as the epitome of what USC lacks…he embodied the Bear Bryant expression “He can take his and beat your’s, or take your’s and beat his”)…Smith talked about what he had to do to change the cultural rot that had set in at USC (and Bourbon can probably explain this better than anyone here), the attitude amongst everyone from administration to fans that all you had to do was wear a USC shirt and stick a V sign in the air and magically the other team would roll over…we’re back to that point.

      3. 100% Correct, James. Every time I saw Clay’s blank face shouting out the words (which he STOLE from Ed Orgeron –who outcoached the shit outta Saban yesterday, btw) —“Fight for your brothers!” — it gave me a knot in my stomach. You can’t throw out empty talk to young players (who haven’t had their antenna clogged yet) and expect them to buy it. You (1) have to believe the words yourself and (2) understand what it takes —exactly what it takes, down to the last detail —to make the words come true.
Helton and Donte don’t know the words —and they sure as shit don’t know how to implement the truth behind the words. There’s NOTHING behind their empty chatter. The players know it. Opposing coaches know it. Everybody who is watching (and that’s a smaller number every week) knows it.

  3. I may need some help here but this is the worst defense I’ve ever had to suffer through. Sure there were worse statistically, but even when the talent level was low, they played with heart. These imposters could give a rat’s ass; I also can’t wait for the new administration to kick these punks to D-III.

  4. ASU’s problem on offense is that QB. He may have a fairly strong arm but he is woefully inaccurate. He was throwing behind and high. He would have had 7 or 8 more completions if his passes were on the money. Maybe it’s because of inactivity but Dart missed a lot of passes too. I don’t think SC will go to a bowl game this year. They must win 2 out of their next 3 games. They may or may not beat Cal( I wouldn’t take that game for granted) but I don’t think that they will not beat either UCLA or BYU.
Cincinnati should not make the playoffs. Outside of beating a fairly good ND team, they haven’t played a lot of really good teams. Neither should Oregon be in the top 4. If they play Utah in the Pac-12 championship game, Utah will win. Oregon is barely surviving against weak Pac-12 teams. But they are rated #4 in the nation. That’s why the SC job is the best job available including LSU. They play in the Pac-12. So far the teams that Cincinnati has played has a record of 33-48. and most of those teams achieved that record against other weak teams. If we are going to put Cincinnati in the playoffs, why not UTSA?

  6. These postgame speeches are just as bad as their in game coaching.
Barrel said the offense “thats not who we are”. What is he smoking, thats exactly who we have been (inept) since you got here. Then he says “we didn’t really deviate from the plan”. Of course not when there is never much of a plan and you wouldn’t know how to adjust to deviate anyway.

    1. He and his buddy helton love the phrase “that’s not who we are..” We don’t take the ball over center in the red zone because “that’s not who we are..” Who are we? Perhaps, he should talk to Marcus Allen, Charles White, Mike Garrett and tell them who we are.

    1. Not me. At the start of the season they still had the Village Idiot as coach, which meant my personal prediction was 7-5. And honestly, I wanted it to be worse because it would be the only way to remove him as coach!!!

      1. And not me – I have been picking 5-7 since they retained Helton and the last of Sark’s recruits left (whatever Bevo Lean Cuisine he may be adding to the mess that is Austin…or the Seven Win Stew in Seattle…he was no great shakes for us, but he did recruit better)…

People thinking that USC will just automatically return to the summit are as deranged as those who defended Helton…USC football now has a zip code in Shi-LaLa-Land…only a total top to bottom (administration to field) housecleaning will fix this mess.

    Inability to run-block (at all)…check.
