Hunter Echols Enters Transfer Portal

This is the third USC player to enter the transfer portal today, joining kicker Alex Stadthaus and defensive lineman Jake Lichtenstein.

Hunter Echols had 20 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and broke up a pass.

Echols did not accompany USC to the Cal game last weekend.

Who’s next to enter the portal?

  • Linebacker Juliano Falaniko has entered the portal as a grad transfer.
  • Offensive tackle Jalen McKenzie said he will make himself available for the NFL Draft.

  1. Which team is the next to lose to USC basketball?

The NCAA hoops season is over a month old, Wolfman. USC is #16, one of a handful of teams remaining unbeaten.

But Hunter Echols – the guy who jogged off the field against BYU and was responsible for too many on the field – is the hot topic?

    1. RECRUITS: Take a good look at the comments. It will show you the toxic fan base at USC!

Hunter Echols is a former 5 star football player who was celebrated like the second coming of Jesus and now has turned on this 20 year old since he has not played according to their unrealistic expectations. This young man had to play under auspicious prospects of his head coaching being fired for all of his playing time at USC. He makes one little mistake of not getting off the field in a substitution situation during a meaningless game (head coach fired, no hope of bowl eligibility in front of few thousand so called fans). Now this fan base calls him “asshole” “soft” “quitter” lazy, overrated, talentless cry baby”

RECRUITS! Go any where else but USC. The “FANS” are true assholes that you need to stay far away from!

      1. Hate to agree but that kind of beahavior is disgusting. It’s fine to talk about Echols performance over his college career, and what losing him will mean to the team. But to call the guy a loser and a quitter and a thug is reprehensible. Those posters should feel ashamed of themselves.

      2. I hate to break it to you Mr. Mama, but recruits don’t read this. Scott Wolf doesn’t read this blog, I have a letter telling me that. Most of the regulars here are respectable Trojans fans who cheer their team. Then we have a few trolls who come here to heckle and pretend to be Trojans. A former football player would never diss the program they are Trojans for life. So I expect you, yourself might be a troll pretending to be a former football player.
That’s okay because Scott doesn’t monitor or moderate his blog either. His philosophy is “everyone has an opinion just like everyone has an asshole- and they all stink.”

  2. See ya. Overrated quitter. Thank you for clearing out a spot for a real football player. Please leave the campus ASAP so the stench of being on one of the worst teams in USC history does not land on a real football player 👋

    1. The question is “are these guys quitting or have they been told(by people in the SC coaching staff) that they’d have a better chance playing somewhere else.

      1. The Purge begins. This guy and Fainako are part of the stench of overrated lazy unmotivated thugs corrupting our pure culture.

This guy is a DLineman with no sacks? 1.5 tackles for loss. I often saw him manhandled by opposing OLs with ease. The only time I can remember Fainokos thug name being called was unsportsmanlike conduct fouls!

Clear these sports for great all American strength in the trenches. Purge the roster of the lazy thugs Riley!

  3. Here is Georgia Southern’s new coach. Check out about the 8:45 min mark. Make sure to be near a bathroom or have a bag nearby.

Bonus to anybody who can watch past how he morphs into faux deep south, calling his wife “Miss Angela.” That was it for me.

    1. Hunter Echols personally blew the BYU game when his “slow walk” off the field transformed a BYU field goal into a BYU TD.
Glad to see ya go, asshole.

      1. Michael,

Mr. Echols is a very sensitive subject with me. I personally know him, his brother, and parents. I work with his mom and we afre good friends. Hunter is an outstanding young man who wants to become a principle one day. He graduated from SC last June. He is in the Master’s Program. The family is top notch. We don’t know why he is transferring, I don’t know. I don’t know if I want to ask right now. I won’t. I want to give them space to accept the consequences. His mother said his hip was hurting very badly when he was coming off the field. As far as why he is transferring, it could be many things. He was recrutied by Okie when he was coming out of Cathedral. If I had to guess, I think that is one of the places he might consider. However, kids have their reasons to leave. We will see. Thank you Michael for letting me talk to you about this.

  4. Hunter Echols- seems like he was playing at USC for 6 years. Never reached all the hype he had in high school. One game this season he caused the SC a penalty by walking off the field while being substituted for.

A change will be good for him at a much lower level of football like Georgia Southern.

If Jalen Mckenzie makes a NFL team it will be a miracle the guy is a terrible athlete. The same thing goes for Andrew Vorhees.

  5. Hey Echols. Thank God for USC”s plan for returning to the top of the college football world you ran to the Portal faster than you ran off the field against BYU. You lazy, overrated, talentless cry baby. You think we care that a member of the worst USC Defense EVER!!! Decided to enter the Portal. I hope at least 15 other members of the least talented heartless and soft USC Defense in history join you 👋

  6. After the 2020 season, Michigan State had 9 players transfer out, 15 transfer in, and 3 leave early for the NFL. USC may be trying to emulate that approach.

  7. Sounds like some of these players are really showing who they are. They miss their substitute teacher that was employed at USC 2 years too long. Good riddance. Clean house. Start from scratch.

  8. OU LB and defensive end coach coming to USC. He is known as a great recruiter. And he will def get more out of Korey Foreman, who barely saw the playing field on a defense that was about as bad as it gets in power 5.

  9. Honestly, I’m not going to bash these players on the way out, but in general, we should be happy if many of the upper class players are leaving. You just cant change the culture of the program with alot of upper class players that dont embody the culture.

Some of the players leaving will be due to talent, some will be due to a lack of motivation and work ethic/discipline.

We are very lucky that the transfer portal allows us to get a ton of new players. I wonder if any of these guys end up playing for Clay at Georgia Southern? I cant imagine a single player thinks they can get to the NFL through Georgia Southern.

  10. I hate to see Hunter Echols leave but all these guys leaving must mean that they know something that most of us don’t know…..namely, that there are a whole slew of new 4 and 5 stars coming into the program soon. Otherwise, why would they leave right at the point that their team is about to become a really outstanding team….unless maybe they liked playing on a mediocre team. I don’t think so. The fact that Riley is cleaning house means he must think that he can bring in better players.

  11. OK, ok, I get it– I think

SC was terrible for 7-years because of this guy called Helton,
    or in some circles called ‘Ton-o-hell’}

Got it. From all SC reports this guy Helton must have really stunk.

But after digesting that fact, it seemed to me that perhaps some of the
acute-losing blame should rest with the soldiers, the Trojan football players.

    Am I missing something here?

    1. If the players give you 100% and you are still losing, it’s one of 3 things: 1) Your players are not that talented 2) They are talented but not well coached 3) They are talented and well coached but they only give you a 50% effort. I would rule out option #1 simply because all the agencies that rate talent have had SC rated(talentwise) in the top 10 in the nation for a long time now. I don’t think that it is #3 either. You can get by(if you are talented enough) in high school with a 50% effort but when you get to this level, if you don’t give 150% effort somebody is going to beat you out and you’ll be sitting on the bench. That leaves us with option #2.

I guess the Jedi Mind Trick is alive and well in Statesboro -“These are not the droids you’re looking for – Move along – go about your business.” Clay the Jedi.Who would’ve thought? 1. He did use the Jedi mind trick… If Helton was a Star Wars charcter, he would be a dead ringer for the incompetent Jar-Jar Binks.
“Mesa called Clay Helton, mesa your humble servant!”
Clay to his wife- “Miss Angela, they bought it – hook, line and sinker. I’m gonna like this place. PTL, PTL, PTL.”

  13. After Donte moved his Lego set out of Helton’s old office the “players”got worried that nap time was over. Honestly I forgot Hunter was on the team. I’m betting the scholarship load at USC will temporarily get lighter. Staying home from a game without being injured is definitely defiance. The decision to jump was probably mutually agreed upon. Where ever these players wind up they are not going to be an asset to their team. I’d be surprised to see any of them play in the NFL.

  14. Congrats on your degree Hunter. Obviously if SC is trying to bring in 35 or so student athletes, there needs to be room, and for some ‘SC players there may be a better opportunity elsewhere.

Btw, this move by Cristobal is terrific for USC. Not only does it weaken Oregon and give us a shot to raid their recruits now and make us the clearly premier program in the West again, a UM that’s back healthy and improved FL schools pull a lot of recruits back from Bama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio St.

Caruso can go to he’s been there longer than anyone else and allowed incompetent idiots be higher like Haden,Sark,Helton and Swan. Now Bohn and Folt! He’s the biggest common denominator in all of this. He allowed this shyt show
to continue since Pete Carroll left. I didn’t put Kiffin in there because he was hired by Garrett and nobody wanted the job at the time because of impending sanctions.

I can’t believe Jalen McKenzie thinks he’s gonna play in the NFL.This guy is a turnstile.I’ve seen him whiff on more blocks than I can count and any quarterback would be glad to see him leave. He looked so imposing with his physique, but almost got all of the Trojan’s signal callers killed. He doesn’t stay on his blocks and can’t handle a rusher with any kind of speed.WOW.Dream big, Big Mac.

  18. Let us count the ways, Echols had 20 tackles in 12 games, so that works out to
1.67 tackles per game. SC must now somehow find a capable replacement who can replicate the Echols’ fete.

In other breaking news on the schools’ campus, the Prez of SC, one Miss Carol Fault,
will be delivering her yearly speech of the ‘Summation of Everything-SC in 2021’ The guy handling Miss Fault’s teleprompter got a hold of her speech, and the highlights are as follows:

SC did lose over $1,000,000,000 in 2021 due to loss of football revenue, paying off students unlucky enough to have dealt with Trojan doctors, etc etc.

However, not to worry, assures Miss Fault, because her $8 million Santa Monica mansion has gone up in value to $9 million, according to Miss Fault’s realtor.

And Miss Fault says despite the fact that SC did not throw in the mansion as part of her pay package, she will continue lobbying the university in 2022 to remedy this unfortunate error.

Oh, and Miss Fault did put in a word-or-two that her right-hand man, Mr Bon-Bon, is tickled as punch that he got this Washington Riley, although she thinks Clay was cuter than Washington.

  20. I don’t want to upset Damien Mama 😂😂😂 But the NIL means open season on college athletes. They are legal age adults (most of them) making money and obtaining a higher education. No more coddling, gotta call it like you see it. If you see a 22 year old being a jackass then you call him jackass. Seriously, I hope all upperclassmen who feel indebted to Helton get out and get out now because it’s time for a new era. There toxic culture and soft style of play is no longer ok here.

    1. Dear Juice,
You got it wrong —it’s not considered proper anymore to call people who behave like jackasses, “jackasses.” We have to look for the “positives” in every situation. The “positive” in USC’s situation is, due to Echols and a dozen other players just like him, USC is a shoe in for Phil Steele’s coveted “Most Improved Team” in 2022.

    2. It should of never been ok. Any competent AD would of saw that right after the cotton Bowl blow out to Ohio st. SOFT TOXIC CULTURE shoulda been noticed by Swann but he was too busy playing golf and doing autograph shows to line his greedy pockets. Like if the grifter wasn’t making enough money as AD. One of the highest paid at the time. The only good thing Folt has done at SC was to fire Swann a few months after she was named President.

There is a alot of work still to be done here. To lose an athlete like T-mac is a huge loss, but it seems he didnt like USC for some reason.

  22. There is a time for every season– time to be serious, if but for a mere moment, as today is December 7, Pearl Harbor, 80-years ago today

I do not dwell on war and its horrific consequences
except on Veterans Day, 9-11, and today:

My father tells me that the Japanese did not realize how devastating their surprise attack was on America’s armed forces, and obviously on the U.S. navy. Many ships were lost and it took years to rebuild the navy’s firepower as Americans all over took up the war effort to do what they could do to help out. It was the early 1940s, times were hard, but ironically the U.S. people were never so united.

My dad continues to discuss that here in Los Angeles and California at large, we were paranoid of a possible Japanese land invasion. Next to the famous Santa Monica pier stands an old cannon, built to withstand and defend our homeland.

War. America has had more than its share. Fortunately, most of us have never experienced war. So perhaps we all should say a little prayer today for those who did.
