Caleb Williams Enters Transfer Portal

Oklahoma QB Caleb Williams announced today he was entering the transfer portal but did not announce a destination.

I wrote a month ago that there was a lot of talk inside the McKay Center that Williams was transferring to USC.

Williams’ father, Carl, told Yahoo Sports that “professional development” will be the key factor in picking a destination.

“We want Caleb to be ready to play when he becomes a pro,” Carl Williams said. “You go to college to get prepared for your career. His chosen career path is professional football. We want him to be prepared for when that time comes.”

  1. There’s no guarantees but given that Riley had promoted him over Spencer Rattler and was set to go with him, I think that SC has a better chance than everyone else. Also, If his father is looking for developement, where better to look than Riley who recently had 2 Heisman trophy QB’s that were developed under Riley(They both transferred in from programs where they weren’t even playing). Dart will surely leave because he knows that Riley is going to go with Williams. I hate losing Dart but I think Williams is better. I think that Moss will stay.

  2. Sadly, I really believe that Dart is not the type of qb that Coach Riley feels can get USC into the college football playoffs. He wants a true duel threat qb which make this type of offense roll. If it is Caleb Williams for two years then it will be the kid from Los Alamitos who arrives at USC in 2023.

Still will shock me if he leaves Oklahoma for USC especially the way the Oklahoma boosters have always paid off athletes to come there since the Barry Switzer era.

    1. Anything can happen —but it’s hard to believe that Caleb —who’s not totally comfortable with Oklahoma’s new coach — is gonna go try out for a team with ANOTHER new coach. If he leaves he’s probably coming to USC and reunite with a coach he knows and loves [and who loves him back]…

      1. Makes sense. There are definitely 2 teams out there that can win a NATY next year and could certainly win him over. Georgia and Clemson. If his family is looking at it strictly from a business point of view, both those teams are way ahead of SC on talent. SC’s edge to getting to the NC is regrettably the sad-sac PAC 12.

      2. He played high school ball in Washington. He was quoted as saying(after committing to the Sooners) that “the one reason that he is not staying home but rather going all the way to Oklahoma is Lincoln Riley”.

  3. Dear Coach Lincoln Riley!

Ryan Nielsen- the current Defensive Line Coach/Assistant Head Coach of the New Orleans Saints might want to return to USC, and it might be a good idea to hire at least 1 coach who has USC ties.

Ryan played for Coach Ed Orgeron at SC and learned the Orgeron way while coaching under him for a number of years.

Please give Ryan a call he might be the perfect fit, and way better than hiring a stranger from another program. The Saints have had a solid defense especially the DL in recent years.

    1. It is hard to imagine Caleb going any place other than USC.

As much as I like Dart, I think Caleb is a proven entity and has much better running ability.

I would like to see that Wyoming receiver sign with USC.

Will some of the Oklahoma receivers follow Caleb? What we really need are some offensive line players for 2022.

      1. Honest question here – is there a way to go back and look at posts older than the ones on the page or do they just dissolve into nothing and disappear forever?

  4. Tyrell Bynum, from Bosco originally, transferring to USC from Washington, 4 star WR, was Pac 12 honorable mention last year, never really had a terrific QB. Sounds like a solid pickup.

  5. Mayfield–Heisman in one year with Riles. Doing well in the NFL.
Murray–Heisman in one year (starting) with Riles. Doing well in the NFL.
Hurts–never blossomed under Saban. Heisman candidate in one year with Riles. Doing well in the NFL.

I assume that Caleb’s dad is talking about the above resume?

    1. That said, I’m a great Slovis fan and hope he has STELLAR year(s) at Pitt. He lacked WR talent this year, and there is the worry about the injury.

I’m also a Dart fan and believe he is a fine D/T QB. We will see where the chips fall. If Dart is a better QB than Zach Wilson (the BYU guy), then I’m a Dart fan. Heck, he’s barely 19 years old!

  6. And finally this…..

Kiffin did a nice job with Matt Corral, who is off to the NFL.
Would Caleb go to Old Miss?

Yes, UGA has QB issues but they’ve not been known to be an NFL QB production mill (Stafford not-withstanding). Bama is set with Bryce for one or two more years. Clemson has produced two NFL QB’s lately, though Watson’s stock has not done well. Clemson?

So where else for young Caleb?
    Stanford? Stock is dropping
    Oregon? No.
    Sarktexas? No.
    Leach? Probably not.
    Harbaaaaugh? Hope not.

Gotta think USC is in the driver’s seat.

    2. The argument for OU that they made in their press release today is that they won 11 games this year (vs USC’s 4). Besides Riley touting his QB coaching ability, a selling point to CW could be “come lead the USC Renaissance in the 2nd largest media market in America!” Talk about the NIL potential.

  7. It’s a done deal that Caleb will be a Trojan. He will have to compete with Jaxson for the starting job, but he already know Lincoln’s offense and is a true Dual threat QB, so things are looking good at qb for USC.

      2. No I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion. But enough of this Georgia, Ol Miss and I’ve even heard Alabama … crap. Caleb Williams either comes to USC or stays at OU.

      3. Caleb Williams to USC would give so much added credibility to what Lincoln Riley is doing at USC. There will be a traffic jam at the incoming USC transfer portal. I give a guy like Bobby Haskins credit for seeing this in advance.

      4. Obviously, Riley is going for the Big Score. You have to love where his head’s at. Hope and pray he pulls this off. It’s huge.

    1. No joke –it makes a LOT of sense. Caleb doesn’t go to USC to be with Lincoln — he betrays his former coach completely and goes to his arch rival’s school instead! Why? Cuz EVERYTHING a star QB could want is at UCLA —national prestige, a packed stadium every Saturday, a coach who’s contract is up….

  11. Dart’s talented, but Williams has already started 7 games in Riley’s system. 1900 yards passing, 21 TD’s, 4 INT’s.
