Oklahoma Gov. Takes Shot At Lincoln Riley

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt gave his state of the state address and took a shot at Lincoln Riley.

“Can you imagine leaving a place like Norman, Oklahoma for a place like Southern California?” Stitt said.

This is known as pandering to your base.

  1. The great minds from Oklahoma continue to embarrass themselves. Most intelligent people would say “How could he have stayed so long in Norman, OK”. They are so butt hurt they will never get over it until we play them and shut them up. Even then they are so stupid they will continue to show what dumb okies they are. They are almost as bad as Wolf carrying on about Donte. Give it all a rest.

    1. I don’t mind you defaming millions of Oklahomans …but when you raise your voice against our Scott —who’s never harmed anyone or anything in his life—well, you’ve gone too far, Steveg…….

  2. Anyone been to Oklahoma City, and Norman. Not much to do there unless you like Old Okie drinking holes with OU helmets on every wall, and of course devastating tornados.

  3. This is known as not letting it go. Get over it, Oklahoma. And, by the way, for nearly a century it has basically been a one-way street from OK to CA. Something about oceans, mountains, desert spas, vs. flat prairie lands interrupted by oil wells.

  4. HaHa. The governor is watching too much Faux News. Almost 20-year-old would rather live in L.A. than out in a sticks state. “How you gonna keep ’em out on the farm (Oklahoma) now that they’ve seen Paris (L.A.)??

      1. Can you imagine a Sunday nite cartoon show starring Ed as a 9 year old kid with an oafish dad and a mother with tall, blue hair? It would be HUGE…..

  5. Since the Oklahoma governor has opened up a travelogue segment, there are a few places I have visited that I might live outside of Southern California– Bondi Beach in Sydney, or Moorea in Tahiti, or Waikiki, or Northwestern France on a surfing beach, or Acapulco, Mexico, or Vancouver, Canada, or North Island, New Zealand,

‘Maybes’ would include Kauai, Maui, Tokyo, Katmandu, Nepal, on the Nile in Cairo, Delhi, India (not in the summer) and Central Africa.

How about you, MG, which places have you visited that you loved?

      1. If it is ever safe to travel again I will have to check out that place, Steveg. The people of Spain are different than the people of Mexico, much as the people of Africa are different from African-Americans.

It is eye-opening to observe how many different ways of living there are.

      2. LOL! Why the hell wouldn’t people in Spain be different from people in Mexico?! About as obvious as saying people in Ireland are different than people in Japan.

      4. My friends in Almeria and Madrid, Spain always say “why don’t you come visit?” My friends in Puebla, Mexico always tell me “Please don’t come –you’d never make it here alive.”

    1. For me it’s gotta be all the seedy towns south of Rome, all the gamey villages in central Sicily and all the beaches south of Lahaina in Maui.

  6. I don’t know…. the beach is half hour away from most areas, the snow is about an hour away from the same location. There are world class amusement parks, two basketball teams, two professional football teams and concert venues in every direction.
Last I heard Norman is not close to an ocean. I can’t think of anything I want to see in the state where the wind comes right behind the rain. I can’t guess what this funny man is getting at but without a doubt I’d take Southern California over Norman any day of the week.

  8. To So Cal, I think comparing Spanish people with Mexican people, and African people with African-Americans is a bit different than your argument that these comparisons are compatible with comparing the Irish with the Japanese.

Of course I could be wrong.

      1. Very Good stuff, Ed. Can you do a little essay on how the Irish got that small? People here like to learn. [I already know it has something to do with King Brian getting kicked outta heaven and landing in Ireland–that part’s explained in Darby O’ Gill].
[Isn’t it weird how all the people from Darby are dead now — and all the people from Sleeping Beauty are still around –and both movies came out the same damn year]?….

  9. Give the Guv a break. He has to live there, punishment enough. Soon enough he will be like Grampa Joad “”Wait ’til I get to Californee, I’m gonna reach up and – pick me an orange, whenever I want it! Or some grapes, na-na-na now…yesiree”

  10. I can’t help wondering why Brent Venebles would ever want to leave a nice city like Clemson South Carolina for a hick town like Norman. I’ve never been to Clemson but I have seen pictures of it and it really looks like a nice place to live.

  11. Ed is on fire…might have to put this one in the same category as ’67 usc-ucla, ’05 usc-oklahoma, “miracle on ice” in ’80 winter olympics, Kobe’s last game where he scored 50 or something like that.

Every once in a while, we are treated to a performance that is otherworldly, and I think Ed may have delivered that tonight.

    1. Agreed! The thing about the meksiko people flying to spane was on a different level. Ed might be the guy who ends all the super-sensitive racial back and forth…

  12. Norman is a great town. As stereotypical of a small college town way of life as you will find anywhere in the country. OU is a beautiful campus with a nice art museum. Walk to games and to Campus Corner. Honestly most people that live there with a decent economic situation would cringe at the thought of living in L.A. as it would take big $$ to replicate their quality of life. A place where one can build a comfortable middle class life.

    1. And that is a fact, Jack (I mean Regal Rita). And what exactly is a voice of reason doing on a blog like this?–

I love small towns and a slower pace of life. For a while

But I am city-born and bred, and I like all the commotion a city provides. I guess.

  13. Scooter,

My dad was stationed at Altus Oklahoma’s air force base when I was in first grade. Cotton fields and open land is all i saw in Oklahoma. You had Indian reservations and fishing but other than that, not much else to do. I am sure the Governor is just upset for now about Riley leaving. But once they win with the new coach, Riley will be out of his mind.
