USC Notes: How You Know It’s Spring Practice Season

You know it’s Spring Practice season when quarterback Miller Moss says he feels he is getting a fair shot in the QB competiton.

You know it’s Spring Practice season when no matter how much the offensive line struggles, you never hear some players’ names in terms of the first-team rotations.

You know it’s Spring Practice season when video gets released of spectacular catches and poor defending.

  • USC football commit Arron White, a Class of 2025 “athlete” from Orange, is visiting Memphis today.
  • Former USC point guard Ethan Anderson will visit Wyoming this weekend.

  1. “Miller –if you say you’re getting a genuine shot at being the starting quarterback I promise I’ll let you play every time we’re ahead by 3 TD’s in the late 4th quarter.”

      1. Won’t happen to a Riley-coached team [as long as we stay healthy —we’re gonna be thin in 2022 thanks to Helton —who had more negative impact on team than the NCAA sanctions]……

  2. We in Southern California don’t appreciate Spring like in other areas of the country because almost every day feels like Spring in L.A.

But with Spring comes a sense of renewal, and in sports it is a time of hope and optimism which can be colored with irrationality. Baseball is beginning, and even the worst teams will taste victory, at least occasionally.

And Spring football without outside competition, without playing other schools to compare how much progress has truly been made by your squad, breeds feelings of being better than last year, of this year being different, of how the sky is the limit for your team.

And there of course is nothing wrong with this high feeling although it probably won’t last, because the reality of the upcoming September’s games will bring most teams back down to earth

    1. I like the way you cleverly omitted explicitly saying “UCLA” in your last sentence…and just went with “most teams”…..

  4. Vegas odds on Miller Moss starting for Trojans in September: 2000 to 1.
Early line on 11/19/22 USC/UCLA game (assuming both teams go with their spring camp starters) : USC by 4.

    1. Michael, your betting odds piqued my curiosity and this is what I found
for the 2022 college football season:
      Alabama 2 to 1
      Georgia 3 to 1
      Ohio St 5 to 1
      Texas A&M 25 to 1
      USC 25 to 1

How can SC be in the Top-5 when they are overhauling much of the roster?

      1. Good question LJ. Last time SUCC FB threatened to “Shock the World” vs Alabama, the bozos (More like sacrificial lambs) lost 52-6, scoring zero TD”s.

Clown U FB couldn’t beat any of the 4 top teams even if every man on the bozo defense carried a locked & loaded bazooka.

      1. It’s a straight up or down bet. USC wins, I win. UCLA wins, you win.
I am sticking with my original bet [look it up]–Caleb has to be starting for the Trojans.

  5. Oops, forgot Clemson at 12 to 1. But still, SC is tied for 5th with A&M.

Maybe the thinking is that the Pc-12 is soft, so SC has a good chance to win it and hence likely to be in the Final-4.

  6. Responding to ‘Owns,’ I would take SC with a loaded bazooka over an unarmed Alabama

And to Michael, what exactly is your bet with that sucla guy– in a straight up bet, if sucla wins you pay for this guy’s Maui flight and dinner at a top Maui restaurant. Is that correct, and if you win you get what?

    1. If I win T Bruins owes me the value of a Hawaiian Airlines ticket to Maui, steak dinner, 3 beers and a slice of blueberry cheesecake at Monkey Pod Bar & Grill.

  7. Question: Who replaced Tim Tesselone as the SID? If the position is still open Scott Wolf deserves an interview. Great writing schools, and I know no one better who could help Caleb win the Heisman, and help get Mike Bohn fired for overpaying our women’s basketball coach. Scott is alot like former Los Angeles sportscaster Gil Stratton: ” He calls em like he sees em” Nothing fake about Scott Wolf the future mayor of Whittier, CA.

    1. He’d be more than great…but he’d probably get fired after honestly answering Carol’s favorite question….

[Same situation with same result might come up first with Mike Bohn]….
