The Transfer Portal’s Dark Side

It says something that Bru McCoy going from Texas to USC to Tennessee is considered normal today.

Nearly 2,000 scholarship players have entered the portal in the past year.

I feel like not enough gets mentioned about all the players who enter the portal and can’t find an interested team.

There are still USC players from last season, like Dorian Hewett, Juliano Falaniko and Ishmael Sopsher, who have not hooked up with teams. Safety Chase Williams was recently in that same boat until he committed to San Jose State.

The portal can be good but it can also be risky for some.

Former Mission Viejo QB Joey Yellen just left Pitt after starting at Arizona State. He started against USC two years ago. What’s his next move? I’m sure he will find a third school. It’s a hard way to exist but it’s normal these days.

  1. If a player enters the portal and does not get picked up elsewhere, is the current/former school required to take him back on scholarship? Or can the school say you took your chances in the open market and we don’t want you back (assuming they don’t want him back)?

    1. I hate to repeat myself, but I still wish there were a Nation’s Leader portal and we could talk Dementia Joe into entering it.

I realize the good ol’ USA is the only country with enough stupid people to actually want him. But as Costanza said about the possibility of his fiancee crashing in a plane even though it was a million to one shot, “It’s something. It’s hope!”

      1. Is there a lame post portal? If so please enter it. This is a sports blog and your lame ass political post are dog sh*t.

Biden is old and going crazy. That said Trump is also a dumb a$$. But we are/were stuck with them… for now.

Must be one of the idiots who voted for all of this. Don’t want people talking shit about the clown who’s in office? Don’t elect clowns! Simple.

      3. That post portal comment was as lame as George’s Jerk Store comment.

Greenbird is commenting about something with which he’s obviously not familiar. It wasn’t us who wanted a plane crash. (Or cheap envelopes or a prenup! LOL)

      4. So Cal —don’t you love the people who closed their eyes to Biden’s dementia in order to vote for him saying that we’re stuck with him now?

      5. Yeah, pretty moronic to claim he’s “going crazy”. He wasn’t all there when the idiots voted for him.

They’re pretending it’s a recent development, so they can convince themselves all of this blood, destruction and suffering (including financial) isn’t on them.

But they’re wrong. It IS on Biden voters. ALL of it.

      6. Awwwww. Dumbass hates being reminded of what a moron he is for supporting a corrupt, weak old man with dementia.

Too bad! All Biden voters SHOULD be reminded daily. Every day more people die because they voted for complete incompetence and we have more than 900 days to go!

      7. Siggy & Cal, you are spot on! I didn’t lose anything. I don’t like Trump, at all. He’s a jerk. But most of what he did was best for the country and its citizens.

I don’t have to feel warm & fuzzy about someone, if I know he’s the better option. You had to be a total dumbshit to think a corrupt, weak frail old guy with dementia would be a better option.

And as you both pointed out, thanks to the morons we’ve all lost SO MUCH, especially those who paid with their lives, their limbs, their homes, their loved ones. Worst part is, it may get much worse if Putin can’t accept defeat. We haven’t even dealt with Taiwan and you can bet we will.

Would not be happening under DT. Period. Only the fools are trying to convince themselves otherwise.

God help us all!! Have a great day, All, even the ones who are in denial.

  2. Sympathetic to the USC guys who haven’t found a school to transfer to. Any players in this position probably need to lower their sights including Group of Five or Division II. Or just focus on getting your degree.

  3. When Pete Carroll had a stacked roster during his hay days at USC, he and Steve Sarkisian would criticize players who wanted to transfer for a chance to start at a lesser program. They would indicate that the players were scared to compete even though they had no chance of earning a starting position. So I think it’s a good thing that the transfer portal is in place, because selfish coaches can’t ruin a players college experience.

    1. Thank God for the portal. Players were like slaves before. Many of them mistreated in one form or another

      1. Yeah, didn’t realize slave got a free, often six figure, education, a decent roof over their heads and pretty good food.

With that being the case, they really need to quit expecting reparations.

      2. They could not transfer. Poor coaches ruined careers. Etc . Education ?????? Many schools just shoved them thru and you know it.

Please back up your sweeping generalization that players were treated like slaves. How many, who, where?

Furthermore, players have always been able to transfer. They were required to sit out a year. Called a redshirt.

You strike me as a high school student that believes what they want to believe irrespective of facts . And you have been mislead.

And no one here is drooling over you ms/ Mr keyboard warrior.

  5. Transfer is a constitutional right and nobody should interfere with the right of one coach to talk to another player- that’s why the portal was invented for freedom to choose what players do with their bodies.

Maybe 1 out of 10 was pretty cute, but not sensational.

So odds are no one is drooling over Ms. Greenbird. The true beauties don’t have to brag.

Of course we wouldn’t have seen him develop under CH the way he developed under NS. So it all turned for the best, especially for him.

Wish him well, unless he’s ever playing the Men of Troy.
