Did USC Offer Eric Gentry A Scholarship?

USC linebacker Eric Gentry is the Trojans’ best defensive player right now.

He was also a three-star prospect and that shows how recruiting rankings can be full of holes.

USC didn’t even offer Gentry a scholarship out of high school. Arizona State did a lot of things wrong under Herm Edwards but someone was smart enough to go after Gentry.

Gentry is from Philadelphia. If he were from Texas, the former USC staff would have offered him.

  • These videos might come off as sour grapes from Oregon State fans. But I’m showing them because I want to know how the Pac-12 graded this crew? The conference never reveals its grades for officiating. Big surprise.

  1. It was a wide open game. Given the crap Oregon State was pulling I’m really glad we played the way we did…

  2. Well Wolfie
Show the video of our ‘ offsides’ penalty by an ACC official that was instrumental in the ND game. They could have ruled a mistaken flag. But they didn’t. He tossed the flag as the field goal was wide not as the ball was hiked.

ACC offered a ‘ private’ apology and suspended the linesman.
Only they didn’t. He worked the next game.

ND, doing God’s work. Just like WW2, collaborating with Adolf.

Oskar Schindler? Just over 1K. To be commended for sure, but paled in comparison.

  3. Gentry probably has a totally full ride plus all the NIL value he can handle. What’s more, he is just a sophomore, although he is playing like a senior. It seems LR and his guys sure know how to evaluate talent. I can’t wait to see Gentry playing next to Tackett Curtis who is coming in next year. Curtis’ team just beat Arch Mannings team and Curtis was a huge part of it.

If USC would have offered him during the CH era, Wolf would have written
and reminded us that none of those top schools offered Gentry.

  5. The refs let them play. The videos above are totally cherry-picked. We could look at Addison being held a half dozen times, lots of holds not being called against the OSU line. Late hits by the beavers.

The game was played, USC won, and that is how it ends.

      2. Exactly, 67 — prior to the season, it was hard [impossible] to know what to expect from a team that last year lost to Cal cuz they were “feeling sad” about their 60 point plus loss to UCLA….

  6. Gentry was rated as a 3 star recruit. Evaluation of talent goes a long way when looking at how many stars they have behind there name. Gentry just shows us how big time blue bloods evaluate and miss on 4/5 stars. This is how one must look at 1) Are the smart 2) Does their strengths fit your philosophy 3) Do they have the versatility to adapt to adverse conditions. 4) What intangibles do they have besides their skillset 5) Measurables I’m not really big because of college weight training n nutrition.

      1. I’d be more worried about the future of the team had USC beat the Beavs something like 45-33, for example, rather than 17-14. The offense will come back; there is so much talent on that side of the ball they will return to scoring 40 or more and gaining 500 or more yards on offense. The question marks were about the D, and they made great strides last Saturday.

      2. Football instincts plays a huge role. I can recall Pete talking about that aspect of evaluation. Look at Troy Polamalu and Matt Grootegood, both of them undersized and Grootegood was slow. But, when you needed a play to force a 4th down, both of them repeatedly made it by anticipating what the offense would do and adjusting to it. Don’t know if that is even coachable. It’s feel.

    1. Gentry was a stork in high school at 6’5″ and about 200lbs. Started to fill out but was listed as a very low 3* or 2*. Athlete or DE category.
18 offers but offers were not top 25 schools. No reason for top schools to go after him. Why would helton be looking at him? Or any west coast school? Sometimes offers are made based on other conference schools where there is no communication with the athlete.

He’s come a long way, quickly.

  7. Hey wolfman, what the fuck!!!!!….. For months you have been bitching about Riley offering 3* O-linemen and getting commitments from 3* o-linemen…..Now you’re claiming “recruiting ranks can have holes” because Gentry was a 3* passed over by numerous programs ….. Total fucking hypocrite….. and you wonder why no one respects you!

  8. One of SC’s committments is from Grant Buckey, a D-Lineman from Bakerfield. I watched his film(you might want to watch it too) and I can describe this kid in one word……SLOW. Why they gave this kid a scholarship is a mystery to me. He’s 6’5″. Maybe they want to get him up to 315 pounds and make him a nose tackle. But I thought that he was even getting pushed around by smaller guys so he’s not that strong. He’s definitely not quick enough to play any other position on the D-Line.

This guy is slow. Maybe they see something in him that I don’t see. Highlight films don’t show everything. But highlight films are supposed to show the highlights. If all you see on the highlight films is a player who is slow….that ain’t good.

Then they end of being picked in the 3rd round – 7 round, which they will become an All Pro, and HOF, because they work harder than any 4/5☆ and 1st round busts. For every K. 10. What mess?…. The PRA gives a former president certain rights to access and limit access to the documents in the possession of the United States, but it rules out the possibility of a former president possessing presidential records after his presidential term. Looks black and white to me.

The docs in question belong to the people(United States), not trump. He refused to return ALL the material, then lied about it. The PRA is not a legal defense for being in possession of stolen(yes, he stole them) classified documents. Some of the sensitive material was found in his desk drawers, mixed in with his personal belongings.

Reality Winner, a former NSA employee, was sentenced to five years in prison for possession of one single document. At that rate, trump should get about 4k years

I assume you’re referring to the so-called red wave. Here’s a reality check, my friend, it’s been reduced to a ripple in the pond.

You need to refrain from far-right polling, Alsaka and Kansas are a clear indication of where voter sentiment is heading. 3 out of 4 independent voters will not vote for a trump endorsed candidate.

Biden’s approval rating is on the rise and the face of the republican party is running from the law. Plus, 86% of Americans disapproved of the SCOTUS abortion ruling. The GOP has yet to offer a suitable platform to combat inflation but continues to point the finger. Typical playbook response from your party…….laughable!

  12. MG, don’t go there, just don’t. Republicans are the worst. Democrats suck badly but Tom Massey, Dickhead Rand and Ted Cruz continuously vote against disaster relief for anyone else but were the first to ask for help when their areas were hit. A pox on both their houses!

AS for all of you stupid rat bastards that wailed and cried about Donte Williams and the job he was doing, as well as saying that he wasn’t qualified for his position, well go ask Oklahoma fans who they’d like to have considering that Kansas St. just barbecue’d their secondary and SC has eight interceptions by db’s with four by cornerbacks and now you see USC’s 1# recruit being eased into the games and not handed a job based on his ranking. 13. By the way, as a former employee of the Dept. of Homeland Security, No one, not even a president, can violate the Atomic Records Act, which keeps documents marked TC/S from being removed from specific, secured rooms in the White House. Also, any document which isn’t supposed to be shared with a foreign government also aren’t supposed to be removed from the White House secured room. So how did Trump get all these records? He asked the person who’s in charge of the custodial chain to leave the room and Trump never returned the documents. All 200,000 documents. His only hope is to delay, deny-well that won’t work when he goes on Fox and literally, unsolicited tells on himself. Not even Biden is that slow.
