Discuss The USC-Arizona State Game

Well, the defense is soft as usual. And a busted coverage allows ASU to score a TD and tie the score, 7-7.

The first drive is pretty workmanlike for USC other than a fumbled snap. Caleb Williams scores on a 1-yard run. USC 7, Arizona State 0.

The Trojans are 25.5 favorites.

Did you pick a winner? This isn’t the same Arizona State team before Herm Edwards got fired, apparently.

But it shouldn’t matter tonight. I’m picking USC, 51-20.

  • Tight end Lake McRree is not dressed for the game.

        LMFAO!

Grinch, Nua and Donte Williams suck!

USC needs to make Kris Richard an offer he can’t refuse to come in and fix this defense next year

  2. This will be a game to get our offense back in sync. We need play well on both sides of the ball. Defense should continue to play much faster without thinking so much. 3 int tonight’s game 52-17 USC

    1. First drive TD Caleb made easy throws to get into a comfort zone. Defense looking kinda of shaky couple of pressures no sacks miscommunication between Shane Lee n Blackmon. Let’s clean it up can’t keep getting caught in no man’s land. Playing to lackadaisical won’t move up we are on late night national TV. Nobody down south or back east are watching

  3. I am afraid my interest extends only to the final result. Of course, USC’s list of games includes “major upsets”, which I defined as any result where an underdog of 7 points or more managed to win. ( I wanted an objective standard .)
Before point spreads, I relied on the newspaper story about the game to help classify major upsets. That is why we have major upsets listed even for pre point point spread games.

listen closely so anti USC. Get his black ass out of there.

  4. USC doesnt allow anyone to see their practices. Do the offensive and defensive lines even practice? This is Arizona State and USC looks horrible at the line of scrimmage.

Bobby Haskins and Cortland Ford are horrible. They might be the worst players in all of the Pac-12. They are stuck in cement.

Caleb’s legs keep bailing out the offensive line. If I were Riley, I would be looking to see if any other players are able to push for playing time at left guard. Vorhees and Ford = horrible.

    1. …As to the comments about what we’re left with without Caleb —the answer is NOTHING. Just a bunch of great receivers who won’t have anybody to get the ball to them. Yeah, I know Miller has a great arm —but with no protection from our line and lesser mobility he’d be a sitting duck.

    1. I think we all should lower expectations for this team –Helton left Riley without anybody on the D or 0-line —and we can’t attract great unit coaches for either side of the line cuz no one wants the thankless job of coaching these guys….

      2. You act as if it’s everyone, Tebow. At least half of us have said since before the season started that we would not be in the CFB discussion this year, will lose 1 or 2 games and that a Rose Bowl win is probably the BEST we could hope for this year.

  5. Grinch isnt a good defensive coach. There are just so many problems with this defense. It is almost like they have never played football. This ASU team is NOT talented and USC makes them look good.

Honestly if Caleb got injured, this team would collapse. Riley is a very smart tactician, but I dont trust that he has picked a good coaching staff.

      1. I do need to remember that USC had terrible offensive and defensive lines last year. But even Nick Figueroa looks like he has regressed in this defense.

    2. I favor that it’s not Grinch’s fault.
This D-line can’t stop the run and cannot penetrate to pressure the QB and can’t get a sack.

Figueroa had the QB dead to rights and let him slip away.

In July we hoped that we would see improvement in the D line and have a decent D. That hope has faded into obscurity.

    1. For years we all had Venables on our list for DC at USC, with the understanding that he was not gonna leave Clemson until his son quit playing football for Clemson.

I think we will find that Venables is a great DC and likely not the right guy for a HC job.

The O-line is standing around watching defenders run by them. Caleb’s saving us with his legs.
Coach Riley better make some adjustments or we may lose this one. Fight on!✌🏻

  10. It is obvious to me that Riley is a strategically smart coach and a really good QB coach. But I dont think he will develop dominant teams. I dont think the full coaching staff is all pulling their weight and I dont think Riley will hold them accountable for results.

So we will be OK, but not CFP level.

  11. That was bad. But expected. The d only gave up 7 points in the second half. 4-8 is still in this team. Too much rat poison in the squad. Still better than last year by a mile. This is really interesting to watch.

      1. I get it. It sounds like double talk. But too many people within the program are caught up on being bullies instead of the profound defeat that emasculated this program for years. It feels like something that could be better than what Pete Carroll created, maybe getting success that McKay achieved is possible. Being a part of a revival can be intoxicating. Therein lies the problem. Doing Heisman poses before earning a starting job is hubris. Not taking the close win at Oregon St. as an alarm is another sign of hubris. Dye came out and said practice wasn’t sharp last week.

But the fact they still win in spite of their hubris is interesting. I hope that helps elucidate my point.

      2. Your right The World. USC must do a better job of practicing better to prepare for the game at hand. We are not physical enough to dominate the LOS, so we need to be better mentally than physically. If we pay attention to details that should make us improve our overall performance.

      1. Peete would be my #2 pick. I will say, for a big white dude, Carson was athletic.

Caleb is the college version of Patrick Mahomes. That one sidearm pass was a typical Mahomes pass and the elusiveness in the pocket.

  12. We still need to work on pass blocking Caleb is one pressure from getting hurt. Doesn’t have time to sit back n go through his reads,if we don’t clean that up we will lose QB for the season and the game. Okay win not impressed by DL not getting away from blocks no one can seem to set the edge. If we don’t clean that up we are going to lose to Utah n two weeks. This performance is shows that we are not physically ready to dominate the trenches on both sides of the ball. LR you need to protect Caleb by all means necessary. What is going on Henson too many lineman are getting speed rushed or pushed back by not being physical at the point of contact.

    1. Sounds about right. Dye was great. Both Williams played great. Addison is super. And you have to hand it to the back 4 —their jobs are made very difficult by the ineffective rush [which —to be fair —really picked up once we started blitzing in the 4th quarter]…..

    1. I hate it when anyone [including Caleb himself] talks about his needing to work on the “basics.” The reason he’s so successful [at this level at least] is he’s different, he’s unique. He throws off balance all the time. He waits too long, then escapes a sure sack with strength and fast feet all the time. Angelo Dundee said he wanted to teach a young Cassius Clay to to hold his right hand higher and to stop pulling his head back to avoid punches….until he realized “the guy’s unique — he makes his own rules.”
Leave Caleb’s “mechanics” alone. They work. For him.

      1. Caleb W had an off week last week and a couple of them last year. Probably overly-scrutinized when that happens. When the Chiefs lose, you hear that Mahomes needs to do less of sidearm, submarine etc passes. I agree with your point.

  14. Hey did anyone see Foreman out there? I saw him on two snaps. Got in on a tackle still no sacks no pressure PPF better not give a stat giving his pressure rate. Because he is making my blood pressure go up after watching his lazy ass play. He is a bust, get him out of here, strip his scholarship send him to MWC or Georgia Southern. I don’t see him showing he wants to be great heck not even mediocre just plain atrocious like the OLDL.

  15. Wow. Foreman is struggling because he’s being pushed. Byrd did not jump out because he was asked to play spy on the qb. Check the game broadcast and see how many times the qb ran up the middle to avoid the rush ends. The defensive line must do better in staying within certain rush lines. Especially on man to man. I saw improvement from Foreman but he still playing stiff. Keep the opposing player hands off your shoulders, sir. He insists on playing with a high shoulder pad level. The lack of depth in the linemen in the 2nd and 3rd depth chart is a real problem. Guys that are struggling can’t be replaced, not even to spell a series. Something has to change.
