Caleb Williams’ Heisman Odds Finally Dip

Caleb Williams is now listed at 12/1 to win the Heisman Trophy according to BetOnline. He was 5/1 last week and 6/1 the week before that.

The good news for Williams is he is still No. 3 on the odds’ list behind Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud and Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker.

UCLA QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson is fourth at 16/1.

By the way, has anyone seen any quotes from Williams after the Washington State game? So he is 0 for 2 on interviews after a subpar performance.

  • The chart below shows the national-title odds by BetOnline since January. USC is currently 20/1

  1. Caleb will only win the Heisman if CJ Stroud get injured and Ohio’s St losses 2 games. Or Tennessee Qb overtakes him because is gaining national ESPN hype. Caleb must put up big numbers like 35-45 378 5 tds games, not happening with our offensive line. Just get wins not to worry about Hiesman Caleb.

    1. No QB with an average O-Line could ever win a Heisman….. which means a QB from Tennessee ain’t getting it either [don’t get fooled by the Vols win over LSU —they [LSU] have the worst O-Line in the SEC and one of the worst in the country]…..

    2. Notice how predictable ‘Ol Mule Shoe’s play calling is when USC gets in the red zone?

Always a pass to Epps the TE towards the back of the end zone. That play is going to get picked…too obvious.

‘Ol Mule Shoe has called it at least once a game.

And the tunnel vision on Addison is played out, he’s not spreading the ball around or targeting other WR’s that much

      1. Not enough screen plays to the RB’s either.

WAZZU left the middle of the field wide open where Williams could have connected with Dye or Brown and made big gains.

But yeah, ‘Ol Mule Shoe has developed a bad case of tunnel vision and Utah will snuff it out…just watch

      3. Jordan was hardly targeted in the last game. Riley is saving the inventive stuff for harder opponents. Riley is saving it up for the harder opponents.

    3. You have to be on one of the best teams in the nation to actually win the Heisman. In my view the darling is Stroud. Somebody should make a status of Caleb Williams with Lincoln Riley’s balls in his mouth, and that could be his Heisman.

  2. ‘Celeb’ was a co-favorite before the season began,
so too bad they didn’t have the Heisman vote back then

With the 3 teams of Ohio St, Georgia and Alabama being miles ahead of everybody else, why not now terminate the season for the others
and allow the Big-3 to duke it out in a round-robin tournament,
a Best-of-3 contest where one-loss does not knock you out.

    1. You’re probably right, John, about which 3 teams have the best shot at NC….but there are other prizes in football –beating your crosstown rival, beating your traditional intersectional rival, winning your conference championship and going to and winning a major bowl — we’ve got plenty to play for even if we don’t get ourselves a Heisman winner or an NC….

      1. No, no, no, it is National Championship or bust
in my ‘Spoiled little SC boy’s mind-
I have always been crushed by the first loss of the season
during the McKay, Robinson and Carroll years.

    1. What Caleb is accomplishing behind an average O-Line is pretty amazing —but quarterbacking isn’t judged the same way as diving….

      1. In all fairness —the O-Line’s run blocking has been improving steadily since Helton left [left as in “got his ass fired”]…starting with Donte’s leadership…

      2. Ha! I was wondering what you meant by diving judging. Unfortunately, this little dream season of yours comes to an end on Saturday my friend.

      3. Not MY idea of a dream season. My idea of a dream season is still the same as it was in March….a 10-2 or 11-1 season and a major bowl.

  4. I realize SC fb is the subject here,

But Russia just bombed the German embassy with a cruise missile. And just bombed a bldg with a cruise missile that was sheltering 5,000 NATO groups.
We are on the precipice of NATO article 5. WW3 not far away if article 5 invoked. We haven’t seen low yield nukes yet( 15kg or below- not regulated by SALT) . Next.

If you think the developments won’t effect you then you haven’t learned from history.

      1. It would be wise for Gabby to start distancing himself from the Biden Crime Family. Even he isn’t clever enough to find ways of defending them. I had no idea until today there had been over 150 “Suspicious Activity” reports on Biden Family accounts made by 5 different banks…..or that Joe Biden himself actively sought to prevent disclosure of the facts leading to these reports.
The American public is gonna be shocked to learn what this Family has been up to for the last 10 years.

    1. Take a step back. No German officials have been in that rented room in that high rise for months.
NATO will not fast track Ukraine. Article 5 can’t be invoked.

      1. You are leaving out the bldg with the NATO groups my dear MG. And the destruction of the Polish grid from Ukraine. Ukraine has terminated grid service to Poland in order to stabilize its own grid. Kinda sounds like kalifornia.

This situation is currently hot. And this fiasco is in it’s early stages.

MG, hasta luego. I need to go to my bunker. Just make sure your spelling is bueno because I won’t be here to help. Gab, take over. When he wakes up.

  5. I never had Caleb and USC winning the Heisman this year, for all the reasons already posted above (O-line, etc).

More to the point, for a west coast Trojan to win the Heisman, the athlete must put up numbers far and away beyond those of anyone in the Big 10 catchment area and/or the SEC/East Coast. This has been true since the 70’s. I still think Marcus Allen’s 1980 season was superior to George Rogers–Marcus played against serious competition (the Pac 10 was a power back then) and Rogers put up numbers versus wimpy competition.*

Since the Pac 12 formation and since the Network formation, TV scheduling has worked against all West Coast teams/athletes. This year has been a tad better, but it will take a “perfect storm” for a Trojan (or DTR for that matter) to win a Heisman. Scheduling, TV exposure, and media hype will be required to even get a Trojan mentioned by ESPN. Now, next year Caleb could have a chance.

*The Gamecocks were independent back then and played a DIII (or so) team in the Citadel, among other weak competition. We held Rogers in check at the Coli in his Heisman year. I was at that game. He broke a big run late in the game against our second string D to get himself over the 100 yd mark.
